Jon Jones is going under the knife on Friday (October 27) after suffering a devastating pectoral tear while training for his now-delayed return to the Octagon.

‘Bones’ was originally scheduled to defend his UFC heavyweight championship for the first time against the division’s consensus GOAT, Stipe Miocic, on November 11 in Madison Square Garden. Instead, Jones will be laid up for the next eight months after suffering a pectoral injury during a relatively harmless sparring session.

Before going in for surgery, Jon Jones shot a quick video to share with fans, thanking them for their support and hoping for the best.

“Alright, guys. Things are about to get pretty real for me in a little bit,” Jones said in the clip. “I appreciate your support. I’m praying for a clean surgery and a quick recovery.”

Jon Jones Still Plans on Fighting Stipe Miocic

Earlier this week, Jon Jones addressed his withdrawal from UFC 295 and personally apologized to his scheduled opponent.

“Obviously, very sad situation, very upset,” Jones said in a video on Instagram. “But I’ve been through a lot of things in life, and injuries are a part of being an athlete. I want to thank the UFC for getting me in to one of the best doctors in the country. I wanted to say thank you to Stipe Miocic for all the work that he’s put in. Also, sorry to Stipe and his team. Like I said, this comes with the territory.”

In the wake of Jones’ injury, UFC CEO Dana White revealed that top-ten heavyweight contenders Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich would slide into the co-main event spot at UFC 295 to crown an interim champion. The winner of that bout will then go on to face the winner of Jones and Miocic when their fight is rescheduled for some time in 2024.

“I guess it will be Stipe and I at a later date, and that’s my plan,” Jones continued. “Hopefully, these other heavyweights, Aspinall and Sergei, put it on a great show for you guys. I may even show up to the event to watch. But I love you all, and hey, your boy Jon Jones is doing OK.”

Randy Couture Hospitalized, Needs Surgery After ATV Accident

Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture and his girlfriend Mindy Robinson were injured in an ATV accident yesterday at his ranch near Flagstaff, Arizona. Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture and his girlfriend Mindy Robinson were injured in an ATV accident yesterday at his ranch near Flagstaff, Arizona. Couture’s attorney Sam Spira confirmed the news:

“Randy Couture and his girlfriend Mindy (Robinson) were involved in a quad (four-wheeler) accident late last night on his ranch just outside Flagstaff, Arizona. As a result of the accident, later today, Randy will be having some orthopedic surgery. He and Mindy are expected to make a full recovery.” – Spira

The former multiple-time UFC Heavyweight and Light-Heavyweight Champion had a heart attack almost a year ago as well. He was in the middle of practice and something didn’t feel right, so he walked himself to the ER and underwent surgery.

‘The Natural’ is 57-years-old at this point, hopefully his body reacts properly to the surgery and he makes a full recovery as expected. He had a really long and incredibly successful career in the sport of mixed martial arts, he’s no stranger to adversity.

Just a few of Couture’s accomplishments include a three-time Olympic team alternate in Greco-Roman wrestling (1988, 1992, 1996), a semi-finalist at the 2000 Olympic trials, a three-time NCAA Division I All-American, and a two-time NCAA Division I National Championships second place.

He also placed in sixth at the NCAA Division I National Championships the first year he competed.

Couture’s other wrestling credentials include a two-time World Cup bronze medalist, a Pan American Games champion, a bronze medalist at the Pan American Championships, as well as a three silver medals and one gold medal at the Pan American Championships.

That doesn’t even mention his resume in mixed martial arts, where though he has a 19-11 record, he’s the first two-weight world champion this sport ever had. He’s a three-time UFC Heavyweight Champion and a two-time UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion, as well as a one-time interim UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion.

Couture was also the oldest man to win a fight in the UFC, the oldest man to win a title in the UFC, and the oldest man to ever defend a title in UFC history. He also has the most championship fights in UFC history at 15, and he’s tied with Anderson Silva for the most main even bouts in UFC history.

MMAFighting has reached out to the PFL for a statement on Couture’s status and will provide an update as soon as possible.

The UFC has been dealt some unfortunate news with Tyron Woodley sidelined the rest of the year.

The UFC welterweight champion revealed to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani today that he will undergo hand surgery, therefore sidelining him for 8-12 weeks. Woodley tore three ligaments in his thumb in his dominant second-round submission of Darren Till at UFC 228. He’ll undergo the procedure to prevent arthritis:

“I dislocated my thumb in the [Darren Till] fight and by doing that I tore three ligaments,” Woodley said. “They are doing a shoestring surgery to provide more stability for my hand and minimize the potential arthritis.”

Woodley will undergo the surgery in mid-October, putting his return at January to February as a result. He would need to recover and go through a full training camp. Shoulder surgery sidelined him for 14 months before his UFC 228 return.

Woodley and Colby Covington were set to meet in a rivalry-fueled match-up in the main event of November 3’s UFC 230 from NYC. Covington recently denied that rumor. The outspoken public enemy No. 1 claims the UFC ‘hates’ Woodley’ and won’t give him the fight because of it.

UFC 230 currently has no main event as of this writing. Nate Diaz will return to battle Dustin Poirier in the co-main event. A potential fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson is a possibility. Dana White claims Jones won’t return until 2019.

Stay tuned for more updates on UFC 230’s main event as the card approaches.
