Jorge Masvidal is getting a ton of attention after destroying Ben Askren at UFC 239 this past weekend (Sat. July 6, 2019).

“Gamebred” put Askren away with a flying knee in five seconds as “Funky” shot in on an immediate takedown. It officially went down as the fastest knockout in UFC history. Recently, Masvidal took to Twitter to shout out former WWE star and current Hollywood star The Rock, asking him if he smelled the three-piece at UFC 239.

The Rock actually responded to Masvidal, praising his fellow Miami native with the following:

“You know I did brother. You served em cold and violent – the necessary way. Big luv. #miami #AndNew

Masvidal has capitalized well off the record-setting knockout. He recently took to “The Dan LeBatard Showto call out Conor McGregor. There’s also the possibility that Masvidal challenges UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for the title next.

If that fight doesn’t materialize, fights with the likes of Tyron Woodley or the winner of Colby Covington vs. Robbie Lawler are also options. However, should Covington emerge victorious, that would mean “Gamebred” has to fight one of his best friends and teammates. It will certainly be interesting to see what’s next for the former street fighter.

What do you think about The Rock’s praise for Masvidal?

Following an outburst at a UFC 223 media day last month that landed him in a Brooklyn jail, former two-division UFC world champion Conor McGregor has received quite a bit of criticism, but more recently, he received some positive comments from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

McGregor then responded, thanking Johnson and offering up some praise of his own.

The “Notorious” one, who will appear in court next month, hasn’t competed inside of the Octagon since November 2016 when he viciously knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 to not only become the promotion’s lightweight champion, but to become the first fighter in promotional history to hold two titles in two different weight classes at one time.

Following that fight, McGregor dropped a 10th round TKO defeat to the legendary Floyd Mayweather in a highly publicized boxing match last August.

His fighting future is currently unclear.

In order to properly hype the megafight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor, promoters have called up the Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment.

The Rock announced on Instagram on Saturday he’ll provide the voice-over prior to Saturday’s main event in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena:

While the eight-time WWE champion wished both fighters luck, he had words of praise for McGregor.

I connected with my boy Conor this week. His intentions go far beyond his extraordinary skill,” The Rock wrote below his Instagram photo. “Like Mayweather, not only does he want to put on an epic performance for the world, but there’s a real visceral, raw, warrior mana (spirit) that he has in his blood.”

It’s hard to think of a better choice to help build anticipation for Mayweather vs. McGregor than The Rock. He’s a natural showman who’s well-acquainted with delivering a great promo, dating back to his days as a professional wrestler.

Saturday’s fight promises to be one of the most lucrative of all time. ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael reported Mayweather will make at least $100 million from his fight purse, while McGregor will take home a minimum of $30 million. Both of those figures will rise when pay-per-view and gate revenues are factored in.
