Former WWE wrestler, The Undertaker responds to Israel Adesanya recreating his iconic entrance at UFC 276 this past weekend

The reigning middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has made it a point in the past to bring some entertainment to his ring walks. He first caught eyes when he and his dance group would perform a routine before his first bout with Robert Whittaker, a fight he would win by knockout.

This past weekend, however, Adesanya decided to pay tribute to professional wrestling legend, The Undertaker. ‘Stylebender’ would sport an austere wide brim hat, a part of The Undertaker’s iconic image, and would carry an urn, another prop synonymous with the former WWE champion.

The Undertaker Responds

Many who watched the walkout were entertained by the moment, many around the MMA world either follow pro wrestling or watched it growing up. The Undertaker was a part of the WWE for 30 years, the biggest wrestling promotion in the world.

The Undertaker, or Mark Calaway himself enjoyed the walkout, with Ariel Helwani putting out a tweet with Calaway’s reaction when asked his thoughts on the walkout

‘I asked @undertaker what he thought of @stylebender’s walkout: “I thought it was great! He’s not only a great fighter, he’s an awesome entertainer as well! Tyson Fury gets knocked down & sits up like the UT and Adesanya uses my walkout! Pretty damn cool!”’- Ariel Helwani

The wrestler’s official Twitter account would also tweet at Adesanya, congratulating him on his victory over Jared Cannonier.

‘The long walk many opponents know and fear … congrats @stylebender! #UFC276

The worlds of both professional wrestling and mixed martial arts clashes more than once on last night’s monumental UFC 276 card in Las Vegas, Nevada – with event headliner, Israel Adesanya, stealing the show with his Undertaker-inspired walkout ahead of his main event outing against Jared Cannonier.

Headlining last night’s T-Mobile Arena event against the #2 ranked challenger, Cannonier, Israel Adesanya successfully defended his undisputed middleweight crown for the fifth time – courtesy of a rather routine unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45) triumph over the course of five rounds.

Israel Adesanya managed to comfortably out-point Jared Cannonier over five rounds

Employing a patented and familiar, distance management gameplan against Cannonier – similar to approaches in recent matchups against the trio of Robert Whittaker, Marvin Vettori, and Yoel Romero – Israel Adesanya coasted over the course of the latter rounds to continue his perfect career run at 185lbs.

Treated to a pair of WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) styled walkouts last night, Jessica-Rose Clark kicked off proceedings on the early preliminary card, walking out to WWE SuperStar, Shawn Michaels’ theme song, ‘Sexy Boy’.

Ahead of the night’s main event, however, Adesanya stole the show – right in front of WWE leaders and operators, Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, and Triple H – walking out to a flood of purple lights and smoke, donning a cowboy hat, and an urn – with the name of ‘Jared’ engraved on it, all to the music of professional wrestling legend and Hall of Fame inductee, The Undertaker

Off the back of a successful title defense against Cannonier, Adesanya already set his aim on defense number six – welcoming the opportunity to avenge two kickboxing losses to middleweight punisher, Alex Pereira.

Earlier on the main card, the Sao Paulo kickboxing ace managed to land a spectacular KO win over the #4 ranked, Sean Strickland in a billed potential title-eliminator – earning his third consecutive UFC victory.

Back in 2017, Pereira, a former two-weight GLORY Kickboxing champion, landed his second career win over City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya, stopping the striking ace with a brutal left hook knockout in his native Brazil.

Kamaru Usman is not surprised by Colby Covington’s post-UFC 268 behavior.

It is no secret that both bouts between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington had highly contentious build-ups to say the very least. This particularly rings true when replaying the words of Covington. Covington has taken shots at Usman’s family, made accusations of steroid use, and has generally spoken without boundaries whenever addressing his rival.

Immediately after their rematch at UFC 268, however, something unexpected happened—“out of character” even, if you will. Covington appeared to extend a show of respect to Usman after the fight, whispering something in his ear that referee Dan Miragliotta heard up close. Miragliotta seemed to consider the words to be overly positive if anything, telling the welterweights to ‘kiss’ later as he split them apart.

By the time Covington made it to the post-fight press conference, however, he was back to running down Usman without missing a beat. He reiterated that he was incapable of respecting a cheater like Usman and that he once again felt robbed in the fight.

Kamaru Usman Unsurprised By Covington ‘Staying In Character’

In an appearance on The FULL SEND PODCAST this week, the welterweight champion explained why he wasn’t surprised to see Covington continue with the insults and disrespect despite the apparent show of respect after the fight.

“I mean, he’s supposed to,” Usman said of Covington sticking to his guns after the fight. “That’s what you’re supposed to do. Like, Undertaker was wrestling for how many years? Have you ever seen him break character, really? So I mean, it is what it is. He has to do what he can.”

The Undertaker is a pro wrestling legend who performed in the WWE for three decades. He is considered to be one of the greatest characters in the history of sports entertainment. If you were to ask Colby Covington, however, there is no character being played on his part and every word out of his mouth is what they would call in the wrestling business a “shoot.”

Covington is adamant that he and Usman still have unfinished business, so he continues to cut promos on the Nigerian American left and right in true WWE fashion. One of them could be found with us here on MMA News, where Covington continued to bash Usman and also covered a litany of other topics, such as Jon Jones’s latest arrest, the “downfall” of Conor McGregor, the origins of his beef with Jorge Masvidal, and so much more.

Professional wrestling icon, The Undertaker (real name Mark Calaway) has asked WBC and The Ring heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury to use his famous phrase “rest in peace” should he knockout former heavyweight titleholder, Deontay Wilder ahead of their trilogy championship match tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Headlining an event at the T-Mobile Arena — Fury looks to defend both his WBC and The Ring titles against challenger, Wilder in a third matchup between the two. From two prior matchups, the pair fought to a split draw back in 2018, before Fury managed to stop Wilder with a one-sided seventh round knockout in their rematch in February of last year.

Fury was widely expected to challenge former heavyweight champion, recent feature, Anthony Joshua off the back of his rematch with Wilder, however, the bout was shelved after an arbitration vetoed the long-awaited bout, in favor of a third matchup between the Manchester favorite and Wilder.

Posting a video aimed at Fury, The Undertaker urged the defending champion to carry out a task for him should he knock Wilder out.

You smash this guy (Deontay Wilder), and when you’re looking over him, look down at him, just for me, and say, Rest. In. Peace.” The Undertaker said.

In response, Fury, donning a hat often worn by the WWE professional wrestling during his ring walks, confirmed he would carry out the request.

This one’s for The Undertaker, I’m here today in your hat, sir,” Tyson Fury said in response. “I’m gonna smash him (Deontary Wilder) And I’m gonna say, Rest. In. Peace.

Boasting a 30-0-1 professional record, Fury has bested the likes of Wilder, Tom Schwarz, Wladimir Klitschko, and twice, Derek Chisora.

42-1-1 as a professional, Wilder, who has managed to take a whopping 41 knockouts over the course of his career, suffered his sole professional defeat against Fury, and has stopped the likes of Bermane Stiverne (x2), Chris Arreola, Dominic Breazeale, as well as Luis Ortiz (x2).
