Tim Kennedy and Rashad Evans will square off in a preliminary bout at UFC 205. That’s right. The historic card is so loaded that the former light heavyweight champ and the perennial middleweight contender will battle somewhere in the middle of the undercard—a testament to how deep the event truly is.

But despite the casual scheduling of the affair, the matchup represents a critical event for both combatants. Kennedy returns to the Octagon after a two-year layoff, and he is looking to rebound from a controversial loss to Yoel Romero: a defeat that snapped a four-fight win streak.

Evans is hoping a move to the middleweight division will allow him to bounce back after he dropped four of six contests at light heavyweight.

Which fighter will bounce back and return to the win column? The answer to that question depends on the answer to several others, like who wields the stronger wrestling game? Is Evans’ perceived striking edge really so advantageous? How will Kennedy’s layoff impact his performance?

In anticipation of UFC 205, we explore these questions to reveal the likely winner of this middleweight showdown. Read on.

Tim Kennedy Puts Michael Bisping & Yoel Romero On Blast

After spending over two years on the sidelines, No. 12-ranked middleweight contender Tim Kennedy is set to make his return to action against former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans at Nov. 12’s UFC 205 from the famed Madison Square Garden in New York.

Kennedy was last seen dropping a highly controversial loss to Yoel Romero in September 2014 in a bout where Romero was criticized for the now infamous ‘stool gate’. Kennedy is well aware that he’ll be returning to a completely different division, a division he recently told Submission Radio was a ‘disaster’. He also took the time to put champion Michael Bisping as well as Romero on blast:

“The division’s a mess, man. It’s a disaster,” he said. “It’s anybody’s chance to get that next title fight and everybody wants it because, especially for me, Michael Bisping is the easiest fight in the division. The current champion of the division. If you go down that list, from Chris Weidman, to Jacare, to Luke Rockhold, Derek Brunson – that would be my number two, three, four and five right there. I don’t put Yoel Romero in there because I think he’s a cheater and he shouldn’t even be in the UFC.”

Kennedy actually holds a victory over Bisping and quite a dominant one at that when the two met in April 2014. He now plans to take out Evans in ‘decisive fashion’ and earn a rematch with “The Count”. If the UFC doesn’t see him as a legitimate title threat after UFC 205, however, it could be the end of the road for Kennedy:

“I’m gonna go fight Rashad, I’m gonna beat him in a very, very clear decisive fashion, and Michael Bisping, he has not wanted to utter my name for the past year. He’s been winning, and he might be calling out 47-year-old men that he has losses to, but who he’s not mentioning, is me – the guy that beat him up for 25 minutes. So if he wants to stand there and really be a champion, stop calling out dudes that have been retired for a few years, stop calling out a 47-year-old man. Why don’t you fight a guy that beat the brakes off of you and on November 12th at Madison Square Garden is going to make a huge statement in the division.”

“There’s a really good chance that after this fight you’ll never see me again – well, in the octagon. I’m just getting started in my work outside of the octagon, where you’re gonna probably see me a lot more. But after November 12th, when I beat Rashad, if whoever the matchmaker is going to be in December for the 185 middleweight division, if they’re not talking about me being in the mix, about me as a potential match up against Michael Bisping for the title, then what’s the point?”

Where do you see Kennedy heading after his bout with “Suga”?

In most high-profile professional sports it’s unheard of to hold down a day job while competing at the highest level, but it’s more common than you might think in mixed martial arts.

That’s not to suggest that MMA fighters don’t require as much time to prepare as other athletes though.

Far from it in fact, with mixed martial arts multi-faceted disciplines presenting a never-ending array of techniques to be learned, practiced and honed, while countless hours are invested in grueling conditioning workouts and sparring sessions to prepare fighters minds and bodies for one of the most demanding physical pursuits in all of sports.

However, compared to other leading sports, MMA is still the new kid on the block, and when many of today’s fighters took their first martial arts classes in their teens there was no guarantee that there would be able to make a career out of it.

Even today, with the sport having a stronger footing than at any time in it’s brief history, many of the UFC’s fighters still face challenges making ends meet and beyond a handful of major stars there’s not many who will be financially secure when they decide to hang up their gloves.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise that some UFC fighters over the years have opted to retain a day job alongside their fighting careers, and in this article we’ll look at 10 who have done so successfully on the sports biggest stage.

It looks like the card for the UFC debut event at the world-famous Madison Square Garden arena in New York in November is finally starting to take shape.

While we still don’t know which fight will headline the historic event, a very intriguing bout appears to be on, according to the folks at FloCombat.com, as Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy appears to be targeted for the show.

Evans, a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and winner of the second season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, will reportedly drop down in weight to make his debut in the UFC’s Middleweight division against the longtime UFC veteran Kennedy.

The 185-pound bout between Evans and Kennedy is expected to be one of many interesting fights that will ultimately fill out what is expected to be a blockbuster night of fights for the company’s first show in the state of New York, which finally legalized the sport of MMA this year.

As we noted earlier today, UFC appeared to be banking on the return of Ronda Rousey to headline their MSG debut event in November, however it’s looking like she won’t be ready until early-2017, leaving the door open for a headline attraction for the special event.

UFC 205 is scheduled to take place on November 12, 2016 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, and will air live on pay-per-view.
