Tito Ortiz was spotted doing Tito Ortiz things during an appearance on a Florida radio show.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion has seen a series of ups and downs since exiting the promotion more than a decade ago. Emerging as an outspoken conservative in more recent years, Ortiz has been an avid supporter of embattled former President Donald Trump and made headlines during the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting that nationwide lockdowns and mask mandates were affecting his freedoms.

The controversial stance, along with falsifying documents to apply for unemployment in California when he was in fact not unemployed, ultimately cost him a spot on the Huntington Beach city council.

Today, Tito Ortiz gave us yet another example of why he’s one of the most disliked fighters in mixed martial arts history. Appearing on a radio show in The Sunshine State, the ‘Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ put one of the hosts into a choke hold and inevitably put him to sleep. It’s certainly not the first time a fighter has been asked to slap a hold on someone out of sheer curiosity, but the problem here is that the radio host clearly tapped, signaling Ortiz to relinquish the hold. As you can see in the video clip below, Ortiz refused to let go in what can only be described as a total d*ck move.

Tito Ortiz Has a History of Holding Onto Chokes Longer Than Necessary

It’s certainly not the first time Tito Ortiz has refused to let go of a choke after a tap out. In a 2017 bout with Chael Sonnen in Bellator, Ortiz admitted to holding on to a choke longer than necessary against the ‘American Gangster’.

“When he was tapping, I thought he was trying to grab my hands, but I kind of held on to it because I have ill will towards him,” Ortiz explained at the post-fight press conference. “But that’s just me, when someone talks about my family, when someone talks about my character, I have bad will towards the person. And I’ve never done that before, but it was just something in my mind saying, if I let go and they stop it and restart it again, I couldn’t let that happen.

Ortiz went on to fight two more times after the incident, securing wins over Chuck Liddell under the Golden Boy Promotion’s banner and against former WWE superstar Alberto Del Rio.

Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Israel Adesanya

Mixed martial arts legends Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz were seen celebrating with newly-crowned UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya after his UFC 287 win on Saturday night.

Adesanya, who knocked out longtime rival Alex Pereira, regained the 185-pound title after losing it last November. He partied with Liddell, Ortiz and even Kamaru Usman at the E11EVEN nightclub in Miami, Florida.

Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz Have History

The two MMA legends were involved in one of the greatest rivalries in UFC history. Liddell (21-9) won the first two fights by knockout at UFC 47 and UFC 66 while Ortiz (21-12-1) secured his own KO win in Nov. 2018.

Liddell and Ortiz, who both are former UFC light heavyweight champions, were both inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2009 and 2012, respectively.

Liddell, one of the greatest mixed martial artists in history, initially retired in 2010 but returned for the 2018 bout with Ortiz in which he came up short. He ultimately ruled out another return in March 2020.

Ortiz, who last fought in Dec. 2019, has been outspoken about wanting one final fight to end his career. He had a short-lived retirement in 2018.

Now, it seems that Liddell and Ortiz have a rekindled friendship as they were both dancing alongside Adesanya after UFC 287.

Adesanya, the two-time middleweight titleholder, had every right to celebrate after finally conquering his biggest career obstacle in Pereira, who previously defeated “The Last Stylebender” on three separate occasions, twice in kickboxing and once in MMA, respectively.

Now, the 33-year-old is focused on cementing his legacy as the greatest 185-pounder of all-time. During his post-fight press conference, he shot down a potential trilogy bout with his long-time rival. Instead, he wants to face new opponents to further solidify himself as champion.

Adesanya will undoubtedly join Liddell and Ortiz in the UFC Hall of Fame someday.

Chael Sonnen recalls his most savage insult; ‘Tito and I have been weird ever since’

Chael Sonnen is the undisputed king of trash-talking in the world of combat sports.

There is a regular running joke in the MMA community that Chael Sonnen is “still undefeated.” In reality, ‘The American Gangster’ has fallen short on multiple occasions inside the cage, but when it comes to the art of disparaging his opponents in a humorous way, Sonnen is the best in the business. Perhaps no better example of this came during a media event ahead of Bellator 170 in 2017 before Sonnen was scheduled to square off with former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz.

Addressing the media, Tito Ortiz openly accused Chael Sonnen of talking his way into big money fights. ‘The American Gangster’ didn’t miss a beat, delivering a response so savage that it generated an audible groan from media members in attendance.

“Tito always says I’m using my mouth to get my opportunities,” Sonnen said. “The only person I know that made money using their mouth is his ex-wife.”

Chael Sonnen Never Apologized For the Comment Despite Tito Ortiz’s Demand

The ex that Chael Sonnen was referring to is famous adult film star, Jenna Jameson. Ortiz and Jameson had a lengthy, although embattled relationship that resulted in the birth of twin boys in 2009. During an appearance on The Media Mogul, Sonnen recalled the moment and shared his thoughts on Ortiz’s immediate response to the zinger.

“Tito impregnated her, but he never actually married her,” Sonnen said. “He corrected the statement. He wanted that known. ‘We have kids together, but I never married her. We lived in sin goddammit. I did not marry her.’ I’m sure he tried to get alimony from her. It didn’t work out. He found out he wasn’t actually married.”

Tito Ortiz earned a first-round submission over Chael Sonnen at the Bellator event. Always gracious in defeat, Sonnen offered his congratulations to Ortiz in the locker room, but apparently, that wasn’t enough. Ortiz demanded that Sonnen apologize for his comment while once again addressing the press.

“I never apologized. I figured that people would get it. In fact, Tito’s another one. After our fight, I congratulated him. ‘Good job’ and it was our second time meeting. I had beat him in college now he beat me here. It was this terribly embarrassing thing because he really is a very bad fighter so to lose to Tito is very embarrassing. You don’t want to be the guy that lost to Tito.

“But I congratulate him. I was cordial. I saw him in the back afterward, our locker was right by each other and I told him and he told me, ‘If you want me to accept that apology, you will do it publicly at the press conference.’ And I was just standing there like, ‘I am humiliated right now. I am not getting a bonus check. I lost to you and suck.’ I’m standing there looking at him and I’m just nodding. I’m dumbfounded. I’ve known him for 21 years. He’ll accept, but I have to do it publicly.

“We get to the press conference and the whole thing’s over. Scott Coker tells everybody ‘Thank you for coming’ and Tito stops him. ‘Hold on. Chael, do you have something you would like to say?’ He actually wanted this apology. I just thought for a winner to do that to the loser after the fact, it’s a very underhanded thing and I said no. I never gave him the apology. It’s been a really weird thing to do. Tito and I have been weird ever since.”

Former undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz has denied calling out bodybuilding influencer, Jake Johns recently, however, claimed that if the social media star, nicknamed ‘Big Boy’ wants to fight him, he’s more than ready to accept a clash.

Ortiz, a former undisputed light heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, clinched the promotion’s 205lbs title back in 2000 with a unanimous decision win over Wanderlei Silva, before going on to rack up an impressive five consecutive successful title defenses. Ortiz was also inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame back in 2007 as part of the promotion’s ‘Pioneer Wing’.

Yet to compete professionally in mixed martial arts since December 2019 following a highly-criticized clash with veteran, Chuck Liddell, Ortiz headlined a Combate Americas event against former professional wrestler, Alberto Del Rio, scoring a first round rear-naked choke win.

In September of 2021, Ortiz featured against former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva – suffering a brutal first round knockout loss under the Triller Fight Club banner in his professional boxing debut.

Tito Ortiz offers to return to the ring against a bodybuilding influencer

Denying he had called out the aforenoted Johns on social media after the bodybuilding influencer shared a graphic claiming to be the victim of a challenge from Ortiz, the Huntington Beach veteran expressed interest in a fight with the former, however.

“This ‘Big Boy’ cat – he said that I called him out,” Tito Ortiz said on his official Instagram page in a video posted. “I never called this guy out. This guy is talking out the side of his neck. I’ve never had any problems against him, or with him, I like the guy.”

“He said I called him out, which is completely false,” Tito Ortiz continued. “The guy wants smoke, let’s light this sh*t up, let’s do it. I’ve done nothing since I fought Anderson (Silva). I still got fight left in me. If this guys wants smoke, make it happen.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

Chael Sonnen hilariously responds to Tito Ortiz’s claims of a retirement fight scheduled for February between the two fighters.

Ortiz went on the “Adam Carolla Show” and claimed that Sonnen and himself would be facing off once again inside the cage. Ortiz most recently was knocked out by Anderson Silva in a boxing match last September. The match only lasted a round, as Silva was able to starch Ortiz quickly.

Ortiz is lobbying for one more mixed martial arts bout, then he would leave the combat sports world for good. Ortiz claims he will be fighting Sonnen on the “Freedom Fight Night” card, which is designed to raise money for the Republican Party.

Chael Sonnen tweeted out a response to Ortiz’s claims

“Tito, when you text from your Pay-As-You-Go 7–11 cel phone your message loses a bit of potency.” Sonnen tweeted. “If you’re good at playing a character, they will pay you. If you’re great at playing a character, you will pay them. Marks are going to Mark.”

This would be the second fight between Ortiz and Sonnen, if it truly does happen. In the first bout, Ortiz was able to submit Sonnen in the first round with a rear-naked choke. The match was fought under the Bellator promotion. Ortiz has won five of his last six fights and is even on a three fight win streak. During his win streak he has beaten Sonnen, Chuck Liddell, and former WWE superstar Alberto Del Rio. Ortiz has not had a professional MMA fight since 2019.

Sonnen on the other hand has dropped four of his last six fights and the 45 year old hasn’t fought since 2019 as well. He dropped his last fight against Lyoto Machida, while being TKO’d by a flying knee.
