TJ Dillashaw is ready to get his shot at Cody Garbrandt.

The two former teammates’ relationship took a spill following Dillashaw’s departure from Team Alpha Male (TAM), opting to follow former TAM head-coach Duane Ludwig to Colorado. After the former bantamweight champion’s departure some bad blood between Dillashaw and TAM founder Urijah Faber began to take the mixed martial arts (MMA) newswire by storm.

After dropping his title to Dominick Cruz back in January of 2016 Dillashaw has once again found himself in the title picture as he sits at the No. 1-ranked position in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings. Fate will have it, however, that the champion he challenges this time around won’t be Cruz, but instead former TAM teammate Cody Garbrandt.

The pair will collide for the UFC’s bantamweight throne at UFC 213 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 8, 2017. In the lead-up to their bout the two adversaries have been coaching opposite one another on the 25th season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF 25).

Dillashaw recently did an interview with UFC.com (via MMA Mania) to promote the show, and claimed that the season will show Garbrandt’s true colors to the MMA world:

“You definitely learn some new things about his character and who he is,” Dillashaw said. “In my mind, he’s not a very good person — he’s about himself and very selfish, and that also comes across in training. I saw a lot of new things that I’m going to be able to use to my advantage in this training camp and in our fight.

“I don’t feel like he shows anybody any respect,” he continued. “He’s got a chip on his shoulder and I can’t wait to make him pay for it.”

Aside from attempting to regain the bantamweight title and put an abrupt end to ‘No Love’s’ short reign as 135-pound champ, Dillashaw also sees his fight against Garbrandt as an opportunity at redemption against TAM who he feel’s ‘burned’ him:

“I think the redemption theme for me is redemption against my old team (Team Alpha Male), the guys that have kind of burned me, the guys that stabbed me in the back a little bit,” he said. “My redemption is proving them all wrong, showing that I did make the right choice in my life and telling my story.

“Everything’s been in the public eye so much about me moving and following (coach) Duane (Ludwig) out to Colorado,” Dillashaw continued. “But, I don’t feel like the true story has ever been told.”

You can check out the season premiere of TUF 25, appropriately titled TUF: “Redemption”, tonight (Wed. April 19, 2017) at 10 P.M. ET on FS1.

Urijah Faber Offers His Prediction For Cody Garbrandt vs. TJ Dillashaw

Urijah Faber thinks somebody is going to sleep when UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt defends his title against TJ Dillashaw. Faber has witnessed what both men can do firsthand as the three were once all training partners at Team Alpha Male. Dillashaw would soon depart to follow former Alpha Male head-coach Duane Ludwig to Colorado.

Now the relationship between Dillashaw and his former teammates has boiled over, and we’re likely to see fireworks when Garbrandt and Dillashaw share the Octagon.

Future UFC Hall Of Famer and former bantamweight title challenger Urijah Faber recently joined The MMA Hour earlier this week (Mon. April 10, 2017) to discuss Garbrandt and Dillashaw’s upcoming clash, and revealed that he believes ‘No Love’ will have his hand raised when it’s all said and done after a knockout finish (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I think it’ll probably be a knockout, just because Cody hits hard,” Faber said. “We’ve seen it in his fights, we’ve seen it in the room. He’s got a history. T.J.’s also a heavy hitter, but not like Cody. They’re going to be in a gun fight.”

Garbrandt and Dillashaw have spent a lot of time together lately, as they coached opposite one another on the 25th season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF 25). Both men are currently at high points in their careers, as Dillashaw comes off of a two-fight win streak and Garbrandt who comes off of the biggest win of his career as he took out Dominick Cruz at UFC 207 to win the bantamweight throne.

With both men coming in on hot streaks in their mixed martial arts (MMA) careers, Faber is expecting a tough fight from his Alpha Male alumni, but still believes Garbrandt will find a way to get his hand raised in the end:

“I don’t think it’ll be that early — I don’t know when, you can’t predict that stuff,” he said. “But, I know it’s going to be a very tough fight. I’ve seen T.J. and some of his stuff, and he’s already freaking out like a wild man, as he tends to do. It’s going to be a competitive fight, and Cody’s going to get it.”

Despite retiring from MMA competition this past December with a unanimous decision win over Brad Pickett, Faber still plans on helping ‘No Love’ prepare for Dillashaw in training camp – as he has already been doing for some time now:

“I’m going to play a large roll in general, as I have been and in the future with Cody and his training and everything else,” he said. “I mean, those guys have fought each other a bunch of times. I remember all sorts of times when these guys were going at each other in the gym.

“It’s going to be more of the same. It’s hard to take someone like Cody or someone like T.J. and do stuff that’s a whole lot different from a camp, because they already train like champions. They already approach every fight with the same intensity. So, we’ll be doing the best training in the world over here at Team Alpha Male, and bringing home that strap.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that newly crowned UFC bantamweight champion Cody “No Love” Garbrandt would defend his title for the very first time against bitter rival and former champion TJ Dillashaw after the two coach opposite each other on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.

The fight now has a date and venue, as UFC President Dana White announced last night that the fight will take place at UFC 213 on July 8, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada during International Fight Week:

“Obviously, Cody and T.J. are already on that card (at UFC 213), so yeah, we’ll see how that goes,” White said.

Garbrandt is coming off of a career defining win over Dominick Cruz at Dec. 30, 2016’s UFC 207 where dominated the ex-champion over the course of five rounds. Prior to that, he had won five straight UFC bouts, with four of those victories coming by way of T/KO.

Dillashaw, on the other hand, has won two straight fights losing his title to Cruz in Jan. 2016. He beat Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200 last July before scoring an impressive decision victory over John Lineker at UFC 207.

UFC 213 currently does not have a main event set.

UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw will bring their rivalry to the Octagon at UFC 213 as the co-main event.

Per Damon Martin of Fox Sports, UFC President Dana White confirmed the bout during the UFC 210 post-event press conference: “Obviously, Cody and T.J. are already on that card [at UFC 213], so yeah, we’ll see how that goes.”

Garbrandt also confirmed he’ll be fighting on the card:

Garbrandt and Dillashaw are the coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 25, so fans already knew the two would eventually face each other.

They haven’t made a secret of their dislike for one another, either. The preview for TUF 25 showed the current champion grabbing his future opponent by the throat, amid plenty of trash talking (warning: NSFW language):

Dillashaw is a former bantamweight title holder, losing the belt to Dominick Cruz in January 2016. Garbrandt dominated Cruz at UFC 207 in December to claim the title for himself.

The rivalry between the two has been brewing for some time, as reported by Lewis Mckeever of BloodyElbow.com. During TUF 22, lightweight champion Conor McGregor called Dillashaw a snake, and Garbrandt believes he was right:

According to Martin, White still hopes to make the bout between middleweight champion Michael Bisping and veteran star Georges St-Pierre the main event for UFC 213.
