Tyron Woodley has revealed the start date for Floyd Mayweather’s MMA training.

Whether this training actually leads to a pro-MMA fight remains to be seen, but it’s going to be something interesting to follow in the coming months. This has been an ongoing story all year long.

Mayweather has been teasing for months now that he will make the transition from the world of boxing to the land of MMA.

He recently went on record by saying that he plans to submit the paperwork to get an MMA license, which will likely be in Nevada.

With Mayweather teasing a jump to MMA from the boxing world, there are many who believe that the opponent for Mayweather would be his former rival Conor McGregor.

Mayweather has gone on record by stating that this would serve as his retirement fight, which would leave him with a perfect 50-0 pro-boxing record.

If this fight does happen then, it wouldn’t impact his boxing record but rather his MMA record.

The UFC welterweight champion is a strong believer in the boxing legend and has gone on record in the past by stating in interviews that he is willing to train Mayweather.

Woodley has recently given an update on when Mayweather would start his training and decided to share the news with the world through the power of social media.

“I just talked to Floyd. He was in Singapore…somewhere else,” Woodley said during an Instagram Live session earlier this week (transcribed by MMA News). “I just talked to him a couple of days ago. So when he get back in town next week, me and him are going to start training.”

Recently, the MMA universe has been entranced with the rumors that lightweight fan favorite Nate Diaz is finally returning from his self-imposed hiatus that’s approaching two years without a fight.

Diaz was linked to a bout with UFC legend Georges St-Pierre – at lightweight of all places – a fight that didn’t make much sense on paper but would have brought both eyeballs and dollar signs to August 4’s UFC 227 from Los Angeles nonetheless.

But Diaz, as he’s done with every single potentially huge match-up throw his way in the last two years, unceremoniously shot it down this weekend, stating that he wouldn’t fight St-Pierre because of some supposed shady business that went down when “GSP” fought his brother Nick in 2013.

Diaz claims he’s ‘interested in doing something’ but ‘nobody interests him,’ creating a scene where he appears to be waiting for the singular opponent who boosted his otherwise middling star power into the stratosphere with their record-setting, now-historic rivalry in 2016. However, while he waits for that elusive trilogy match, his shtick is simply growing tired as he calls out an entire division on Twitter and refuses to take huge fights most fighters wait their entire careers for by calling them ‘uninteresting.’

5.) He’s Calling Out Active Fighters While Refusing To Fight:

Diaz claims he wants to fight, going so far as to tease a comeback in ‘May or June’ earlier this year.

When that predictably didn’t materialize, Diaz got back on social media, the place where he’s been throwing all his blows as of late, to poke fun at Tony Ferguson for withdrawing from his main event versus Khabib Nurmagomedov at April 7’s UFC 223 due to a serious knee injury.

Diaz said Ferguson ‘couldn’t even make it to war,’ to which Ferguson clapped back that Diaz would first need to sign up to fight.

Like him or not, ‘El Cucuy’ has a point there, as it’s simply hypocritical that Diaz would call out a fighter looking to compete for a title for getting hurt while he sits on the sidelines doing nothing. He wants a big fight – or so he claims – but at this point, the fights with St-Pierre, welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, Ferguson, and former lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez have all been discussed or offered and he’s admittedly turned them down.

That’s why it’s hypocritical to call out the fighters who are actually focused on competing, and it’s growing old if it hasn’t been for months already.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has given his take on the next big super fight in the promotion.

It’s been well documented that last week UFC President Dana White confirmed that they were planning Nate Diaz versus Georges St-Pierre for the upcoming UFC 227 pay-per-view event. This bout would serve as the co-main event of the show.

This did not sit well with Woodley, to say the least, who is coming off recent shoulder surgery but is back in the gym training.

The champ has stated publicly in the past that he doesn’t think there are any clear contenders in the division right now.

For months now, Woodley has been calling out the former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion because he sees that as a big fight and payday.

The welterweight champion is all about wanting to take money fights these days and has got into it publicly with White.

While Woodley is on the sidelines, the promotion is pushing forward with the division as they have already made an interim welterweight title bout that will see former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos take on Colby Covington at the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view event on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

There is also history between Woodley and Diaz. Just last year, there was a rumored fight between Diaz and the UFC welterweight champion at UFC 219. Obviously, that fight did not happen.

Woodley addressed this potential fight between Diaz and GSP on his show on TMZ Sports (via BJPenn.com) where he called both fighters out as he believes it’s the biggest bitch move on the planet.

“Let me say this in a very educated way: I think that those two guys ‘contemplating’ fighting is the hugest bitch move on the planet. If you’re going to be welterweight champion of the world and the lineal champion and you got the current champion constantly talking about fighting you, not only do you avoid fighting him and go up a weight class, now you’re gonna drop underneath him and fight underneath in a weight class that you’ve never fought in in your life.”

“Nate Diaz, I was gonna fight him without even having shoulder surgery. So the question mark to me is, are you fans really gonna keeping with these guys that claim they’ll fight anybody, anytime, and they’re constantly avoiding me.”
