Tyron Woodley is gathering as much knowledge as he possibly can in the mixed martial arts (MMA) game.

The former UFC welterweight champion is a longtime member of the American Top Team (ATT) gym, trains at Roufusport, and is now training alongside the likes of Georges St-Pierre and Firas Zahabi at Tristar Gym in Canada. Now, Woodley is teasing some possible training sessions with The Diaz Brothers, Nick and Nate.

Woodley has actually been rumored to fight both in the past, as he explained in a recent social media live session he did with fans (via BJPenn.com).

“You know what? At one point in time I really wanted to fight Nate, not because I thought he was weak, not because I thought it was an easy fight or I wanted his clout. I thought he was a beast, I thought Nate was a beast, I thought GSP was a beast, Bisping was a beast, Carlos Condit. That’s why I wanted to fight those guys. Now I’m in a position where it does not make sense for me probably to fight them.”

“T-Wood” went on to tease he could be linking up with the brothers to train soon, asking fans what they thought about the idea.

“I’m thinking about reaching out and training [with them]. What ya’ll think about that? I’m training with GSP here soon. I already started training with Firas [Zahabi] a couple of sessions. What do y’all think about me training with Nate or Nick?”

What do you think about Woodley possibly training with Nick and Nate?

Nate Diaz has been away from the Octagon for nearly three years. That’s all about to change this weekend (Sat. August 17, 2019) at UFC 241 on pay-per-view (PPV).

The Stockton native will return to face Anthony “Showtime” Pettis in the co-main event of the evening. Ahead of the fight, Diaz recently sat down with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto for an interview to preview the upcoming bout, and discuss his long layoff from the sport. During the conversation, Diaz talked about his inactivity and why he hasn’t fought in so long.

With the notion being presented by the UFC that Diaz is consistently turning down fights, Diaz noted that most of the offers he received from the Las Vegas-based promotion were “lame.” However, there were some he was down for, but the UFC either failed to meet the Californian’s monetary expectations, or the fights simply fell through. One fight that didn’t take place, Diaz reveals, was a short-notice 170-pound title fight with Tyron Woodley.

Diaz was down to face “T-Wood” on short-notice for the welterweight strap, but it sounds like the UFC wasn’t able to pony up enough money to get Diaz to sign on the dotted line.

“So, why am I going to fight for these people and go out of my way to try and fight when it’s like that?” Diaz asked. “And what I’m saying is, is that, with all the criticism that I got for not fighting too, especially for any fighter talking, you’re out of pocket. Shut your a** up, I still have more fights than any of you not fighting.

“Like, I never called you guys, like ‘Can I fight Khabib and Conor and “GSP?” Can I fight Tyron Woodley?” That fight [Woodley] fell through because, they were like, short-notice, I’m 172 pounds, 174 pounds. They were like, ‘Hey, you want to fight welterweight title in like f*cking three weeks or something?’

“And I’m like yeah, lets do this, but yo, give me some – we gonna have to money up for this. But I’m with it whenever and I showed up, too. I’m like, I’ll pop up and do my thing. And then, that’s how that fight went.”

Now, Diaz will face Woodley’s longtime teammate and friend in Pettis. The pair will co-headline UFC 241 on pay-per-view (PPV) this weekend from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, in what’s likely the most anticipated fight on the card.

Tyron Woodley was not impressed by Colby Covington’s win at UFC Newark, to say the least. There, “Chaos” dominated Robbie Lawler and won every single round on each judge’s scorecards.

Yet, when the fight ended, Woodley sent a text to UFC president, Dana White, where he did not seem impressed.

“I walked out and I texted Dana, ‘I want to (expletive) him up so bad,’” Woodley told TMZ Sports (as transcribed by MMA Junkie).“… He just laughed because he knows looking at the style matchup. You think Colby is going to just rush me and dive at my legs and that’s (expletive) going to be enough? I’m not going to be like Robbie and just slip a million (expletive) punches looking like a damn drill in a boxing gym.”

Of course, the two men were on a collision course for each other but nothing came to fruition. After Covington beat Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225, many expected him to be next in line for Woodley’s then-title. Yet, that never happened. Instead, Woodley defended his belt against Darren Till at UFC 228 and then lost to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235.

The former champ had the chance to fight Covington, but injuries on both sides kept that from happening. Now, Woodley wants the chance to beat up the former interim champ.

Whether or not it happens is to be seen, but Woodley was not impressed with Covington’s performance. Why? Well, Woodley asked when was the last time Robbie Lawler looked good in a fight.

“When is the last time you saw Robbie look good?” Woodley asked. “It’s been a while, so let’s not give him the credit for beating Anderson Silva after Anderson Silva was the GOAT for so many years.”

Regardless, it is doubtful that fight happens next, as it appears ‘Chaos’ will fight Usman next.

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will now be benefiting from the greatest welterweight of all time in Georges St-Pierre.

Appearing on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday, “The Chosen One” revealed that he is training with St-Pierre and head coach Firas Zahabi at Tristar Gym in Montreal, Canada.

“It’s a blessing to be able to train with Georges St-Pierre,” Woodley said. “Yes, people. I will be training with Georges St-Pierre. We will not fight, that’s very obvious. There’s no point for me not to train with one of the greatest, if not the greatest welterweight of all time to sharpen myself. That’s something that motivates me.”

Woodley, of course, is referring to previous talks of him potentially facing “GSP” which never came to fruition. And with St-Pierre now retired, it makes all the more sense for them to train together.

Woodley Still Mixing Up Training Camps

Woodley won’t be doing his whole camp with Tristar, however — he will still be training with Roufussport and American Top Team (ATT) as he’s done before. He is simply adding more options to help him get better as a mixed martial artist:

“No, no, I got a great camp,” Woodley responded when asked if he was doing his whole camp with Tristar. “The good thing about my camp and the reason why we move the way we do is because of the humility. I talked with Duke Roufus, he knew I was training with him, [ATT coach] Din [Thomas] knew I was training with him. They were excited to hear what I learned and picked up. They wanted to know if I was going to continue training with him.

“…The ego-free humility martial art form of training allows me to be able to do this. [ATT owner] Dan Lambert, the same way I can train at Roufussport — it allows me to be able to do that and be the best fighter because that’s the end goal for everybody.”

What do you make of this news? Do you think Woodley will be even better now?
