After earning a win over Gerald Harris in his debut at UFC 123, one would guess that Chute Boxe standout Maiquel Falcao would be on the rise in the UFC light heavyweight division, but it wasn’t meant to be.

After being scheduled to appear at UFC Rio this summer, Falcao heard the news that not only had he lost his spot on the card, but consequently he lost his job, too. Upon hearing the news from his trainer, Marcelo Brigadeiro, the Brazilian said he was determined to return to the organization.

“I know they all liked me and they could tell I can fight anyone in my weight class. I don’t have any doubts that I’ll be back in UFC soon,” Falcao said to TATAME.com.

An impressive, but controversial win for Falcao left a bad taste in UFC president Dana White‘s mouth. White was disinterested due to the lack of action that was put forth, particularly from Harris. The bout ultimately cost Harris his job.

But despite picking up the victory, Falcao’s past was brought up after learning of a lawsuit stemming from 2002 that saw Falcao get involved in an altercation at a nightclub in his hometown. The legal issues were enough to abruptly dismiss the Brazilian of his duties, which he said he was surprised upon hearing.

But Falcao said he can’t do anything but accept the company’s decision.

“How can I be against the decision of the greatest event on earth and the most successful sportive organization in the world?” he said.

“It’s up to me to deal with it and work so that I come back and become a UFC champion.”

Falcao said he was undecided on whether to still attend UFC Rio this summer, but for now, he intends to continue training and remain active.

“My plans are to keep training and winning,” Falcao said regarding his future.

“My role is to be prepared to win and when he tell me what my next step is, I’ll be there to do my job.”

Former UFC welterweight contender Karo “The Heat” Parisyan is on the comeback once again.

Karo has suffered from personal struggles such as painkiller dependence and self-doubt.

He was one of the top 170 fighters in the world just a few short years ago, and is now trying to put the pieces of his career back together.

He fights in May for the first time since a UFC 123 loss to Dennis Hallman.

Parisyan seems ready to be in a better state of mind, and prepared to start winning fights using the judo throws that made him one of the best and most exciting fighters in the UFC.

Karo always brought the heat and constant pressure to the Octagon.

He had wars with fighters like Matt Serra, Diego Sanchez and Nick Diaz.

Hopefully, Parisyan is serious about getting himself back on track.

He was only 20 years old when he first entered the UFC, and he is now 29.  He still has plenty of gas left in his tank, and it is time for him to start his climb back to the top.

If he has truly put his personal demons to rest, then there is no doubt that he can be a force to reckoned with once again.  Only time will tell if he can stay on the right path, but his rededication to the gym and sport of mixed martial arts is a breath of fresh air for his fans.

Matt Hughes Says Loss to Penn at UFC 123 Pushed him One Step Closer to Retirement

(Well, it could be worse, I guess; my kid could be a Brock fan.")

Well, it looks like Matt Hughes may be taking his KO loss to BJ Penn at UFC 123 a bit harder than we thought.

The former UFC welterweight champ wrote on his blog this week that the outcome of the fight has him more closely considering retirement.

Here what Hughes’ thoughts are on the situation:

"A lot of people have been asking about the fight and how I am doing. Of course, the fight didn’t go like I had planned it. I knew BJ was going to be in shape, but I didn’t know he was going to come in with a game plan and really look for my tendencies. I think BJ knew I was going to come in throwing my jab and I think he had a game plan for that," Hughes explains. "He hit me with a hard right hand that I never saw coming. It’s funny how styles make fights and I’m not at all like Frankie Edgar. So it just kind of stinks that BJ came off two losses and then ended up beating me in less than 30 seconds. I knew BJ was going to be tough that first round. I was trying to get him into the second and the third round where I could wear on him, slow him down and soften him up a little bit; but it just didn’t go that way."

Welcome one and all to 3am A-Hole, where we yell at each other drunkenly after last call in a belligerent manner and misspell stuff.  Now, this was originally conceptualized as a streaming major live event on CagePotato, with exclusive interviews planned with Alistair Overeem  and Dana White all simultaneous-like. Unfortunately, since neither of them are responding to the messages we Facebooked them, those plans were scrapped. To be honest, we hadn’t figured out the streaming-interview technology anyway, but whatevs, brah. Shit would have been dope.

Anyways, with a firm deadline looming and no White-Overeem love fest to carry us,  we decided to go with a Comments of the Week edition. CagePotato posts what it claims to be Comments of the Week, but friends, they are lying to you. We’ve examined documents known as calendars, and we believe we can prove that these jokers are going weeks, sometimes months, between comment reviews. Well, Potato Nation, you can believe that 3am A-Hole is going to pick up the slack. We’ll pick out some comments from roughly the last week for extra appreciation; really good ones might show up on a Comments of the Month column. Hell, we may actually reward you in some material fashion, but don’t hold your breath. Now, you may ask: Why? Oh great Potato, why would you shower us with more attention and entertainment? Well, Nation, it’s because we love you. Also, you love talking about yourselves, and it keeps you occupied while we’re hammered.

The Michigan athletic commission has announced that they will investigate why and/or whether the first round of the Gerald Harris vs. Maiquel Falcao fight, which was eventually won by the Brazilian via unanimous decision, ended prematurely Saturday night at UFC 123 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

MMA Fighting’s repeated attempts to contact members of the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission were unsuccessful, however, Barrington Carr, the Commission’s director of enforcement told The Fight Show With Mauro Ranallo on Tuesday that they are looking into the matter.

UFC middleweight contender Gerald Harris confirmed last night that he has been released by the UFC following his decision loss to Maiquel Falcao at UFC 123. Yes, Gerald Harris, the SportsCenter highlight-maker and all-around nice guy, who had come into the fight with a 3-0 Octagon record and two Knockout of the Night bonuses under his belt. Even considering how lackluster his fight last weekend turned out, this has to be the most unexpected UFC firing in recent memory. Is the UFC so dead-set on trimming their roster with the influx of WEC talent that they’ll bounce a rising star for one bad showing? Maybe. But get this…
