UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will attempt to make history in just a few weeks as he aims to become the first man to simultaneously hold titles in two different weight classes.

The “Notorious” one will take on reigning lightweight king Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of March 5’s UFC 196 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Despite having an extremely tall order in front of him, could we possible see McGregor challenge for a third world title as early as this summer? His head coach John Kavanagh wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out that way:

“I’ve seen that rumors of Conor fighting Robbie Lawler for the 170-pound belt at UFC 200 on July 9 have been gathering momentum. It’s not something we have discussed specifically but after Conor wins the lightweight belt, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the next fight is for the welterweight belt,” McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh wrote in a post on The 42 on Thursday.

“If that’s what Conor wants to do, I’ll absolutely support that move. I think that would be fantastic. We’re already talking about making history in a few weeks, but can you imagine what it will be like if Conor is the champion in three weight classes by the summer?”

Due to the fact that he cuts a tremendous amount of weight to fight at featherweight, moving to 155-pounds was likely from the onset for McGregor, and he’ll likely size up well with the lightweight elite.

That being said, moving up another 15 pounds to welterweight is a different story. Once again, Kavanagh isn’t worried, noting that with proper time McGregor could be a force at 170-pounds:

“As time goes on, it’s harder to predict what will happen in the future. Conor has a sort of unusual body type in that even though he can make featherweight, he’s still a very big lightweight,” Kavanagh explained.

“Given some time, as well as a bit of strength and conditioning work, he could also be a force at welterweight. This is an interesting time.”

While holding two titles at one time has been unheard of in the UFC, being a three-weight world champion just seems silly to even fathom about. If any man could do it, however, it would be the brash Irish knockout artist.

What do you think the future holds for McGregor?

Check out the full list of current UFC champions and how they came to conquer their divisions. Who is your favorite UFC champ right now?

The current crop of UFC champions is an interesting scene. There’s been new marquee divisions emerge over the recent years, and also the heaviest and lightest divisions continue to struggle in their own respects. We’ve seen a changing of the guard unlike ever before, as all but the flyweight title have changed hands in the last year. It’s crazy when you think about it, as it appears to be getting even harder to be what’s considered a ‘long reigning’ champion.

In honor of the UFC champions that are in place as of today (2/5/2016), we’ve compiled a list of current UFC title holders and how they won their belts. Enjoy.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk wasn't that impressed with Carla Esparza's ...

Joanna Jedrzejczyk

UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk holds all the records at the lowest weight class right now. She is one of the most dominant fighters ever to cross over from the world of Muay Thai, is unbeaten at 11-0 in her mixed martial arts career, and arguably has the best striking in the sport today.

Facing Carla Esparza at UFC 185 in March 2015, a night where two titles changed hands, Joanna ‘Champion’ scored a brutal TKO over a bewildered Esparza.

Demetrious Johnson

Mighty Mouse

Demetrious Johnson is the dominant champion of the UFC flyweight division, but is highly unheralded in his pursuit. Currently riding a nine fight unbeaten streak, seven as champion, he’s rumoured to face Henry Cejudo next time out.

He is the only ever UFC flyweight champ, having won the belt after a tournament in 2012, defeating Joseph Benavidez by decision. As that’s 25 minutes of action though, we’ll show you the rematch, where he blasted ‘J-Bo’ with a stunning first round knockout:

DominickCruzWins

Dominick Cruz

The original UFC bantamweight champion was forced to vacate his belt after years of career threatening injuries to his lower body, making his most recent win so much more special. A brief comeback against Takeya Mizugaki in 2014 showed ‘The Dominator’ was still very motivated, and it sparked a rivalry with the champ of the time, TJ Dillashaw.

The rivalry was settled at UFC Fight Night 81, where Cruz edged his rival on the judge’s scorecards with his incredible footwork.

What should be the fight week of UFC 196 is now the fight week for UFC Fight Night 82, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a bunch of cool content floating around for us fans to enjoy. With the rest of the years events suffering the ripple effect due to Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez pulling out of this weekend’s festivities, we’ll instaed get tow watch Johny Hendricks trying to make weight against Stephen Thompson, and TUF heavyweight veteran Roy Nelson will take on wrestling machine Jared Rosholt.

So we are needing to entertain ourselves a little in the vicinity of this severely depleted card, but don’t worry, we’ve found some cool videos to pass the time while we wait for the madness of UFC 197 in March. First up, check out Jon Jones being too fancy in this hilarious musical parody of his antics outside the UFC octagon:
That was a fun walk down memory lane.

Jon Jones is rumoured to be returning at UFC 200 to face the new light-heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier, having been inactive since their first fight at UFC 182. Having his title stripped for his part in a boozy hit-and-run in New Mexico last summer, Jones fights for the belt he never actually lost, against the man he already beat in his last fight. You couldn’t write this stuff.

With UFC 196 and UFC 200 set to elevate the sport to a new level in 2016, we’re forced to look back on past cards that exceeded normal expectations.

Championship upsets, divisional debuts, highlight reel finishes, and Fight of the Year action are all prerequisites for making a UFC fight card memorable. While these triumphant occurrences happen on a yearly basis, it’s rare that they all come together on a perfectly-scripted night.

But with devilish talent, bottomless pockets, and a knack for giving the fans uninterrupted barbarism, the UFC has done wonders in creating this transcendent blips in time. Despite recent roster additions and an expansion that would otherwise run them thin, the promotion remains ahead of the game.

Based on championship importance, high-level finishes, and all-around excitement, here are the 10 most exciting UFC events of all time.

Team USA vs. Team Ireland at UFC 200! What a fight that would be, and now Frankie Edgar sets the scene with some unique….trash talk?

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has got on the wrong side of a lot of opponents during his UFC run, most notably during his wild year-long feud with former champ Jose Aldo. Perhaps the feelings Frankie Edgar has towards McGregor are stronger than anyone else’s though, and the two are yet to fight. ‘The Notorious’ moving up to lightweight has meant Edgar being made to wait for a title shot yet again, as the Irish star is now booked to face Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight strap at UFC 197.

Aside from probably having to rematch Jose Aldo next to stay active, ‘The Answer’ has also voiced his displeasure with McGregor being allowed to put the featherweight title on hold, as he was denied the same luxury while serving as the lightweight champion. So for many reasons, Frankie is not too happy right now.

Frankie Edgar UFC featherweight
It wouldn’t be a Frankie Edgar fight if he didn’t get just a little busted up…

The lack of trash talk has seemingly hindered Edgar’s rise to another title fight, but he’s looked to put that right lately, or at least through his manager assuming his identity on Twitter.

Talking to FOX Sports, the former lightweight boss had some interesting opinions on when he’ll finally face McGregor, and also the UFC 197 main event. Check it out:

“I kind of had an idea it was going to happen before it was announced, I think Conor played the smart move, he played the business move. You can’t blame him for that, it just sucks that it’s at my expense and now I’m in limbo since I was supposed to get that next title shot. If he stuck around and lost to me, he has no option to go up to 155. I think now he goes up, win or lose, he’s still got the belt and he can come back down to 145. He played the safe play which is smart by him.

“You don’t see usually where the guys have that much say. Usually when you’re the champion, you fight the No. 1 contender, you don’t get to pick and choose. But he seems to be able to do that.”

“Not much. It was pretty much wait and see what happens March 5 before they make any decision,” Edgar revealed. “I know I’m in line for it. I assume (Jose) Aldo is being considered, but I went out there and made my case. I think that is the biggest fight, I think that’s the fight most people are interested in seeing and I’m hoping the UFC does the right thing and books me and Conor for UFC 200.

“I’m pretty much on the backburner until March. I’m going to be in the gym to help my teammates and getting better and working on some southpaw fighters.”

Here’s the fun part:
