Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are some of the most passionate fans in sports across the world, but this guy just took it to a whole other level.

Following the epic 25-minute clash between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 202 this past Saturday (August 20, 2016), one Diaz supporter got so upset at the Irishman’s victory over the Stockton Native that he decided to fire some gun shots into the Las Vegas sky.

25-year-old Ulysses Liaina was arrested by local police for unlawful use of a weapon due to the incident, and when police asked for his motive for firing the unnecessary rounds, he said he was upset at the outcome of the McGregor-Diaz bout earlier that night.

Captain Bob Higginbotham spoke to local news crew KZRG and released the following statement:

“Witnesses and friends all said he just pointed it straight up in the air. And so he wasn’t aiming at anybody, it was apparently his method of venting.”

Police retrieved a Ruger 9mm and 13 casings as evidence and nobody was injured. Liaina is starring at the possibility of up to a $5,000 fine.

Dana White Considering Jon Jones vs. ‘Rumble’ Title Eliminator

When top-ranked UFC light heavyweight Anthony Johnson knocked out formerly surging contender Glover Teixiera in a mere 13 seconds (highlights) in the co-main event of last weekend’s (Sat., August 20, 2016) UFC 202 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, he was under the impression that he had all but sealed his next shot at champion

When top-ranked UFC light heavyweight Anthony Johnson knocked out formerly surging contender Glover Teixiera in a mere 13 seconds (highlights) in the co-main event of last weekend’s (Sat., August 20, 2016) UFC 202 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, he was under the impression that he had all but sealed his next shot at champion Daniel Cormier.

With three straight knockout wins over Teixeira, Ryan Bader, and Jimi Manuwa, it was easy to understand “Rumble’s” stance. However, that may not end up being the case according to Dana White.

“Rumble” had largely spent the build-up to his UFC 202 co-headliner against Teixeira trying to distance himself from temporarily suspended longtime former champion Jon Jones, whom he was scheduled to face at 2015’s UFC 187 before “Bones” was stripped of the belt for legal trouble, allowing Cormier to come in and beat him for the title. While “Rumble” is certainly deserving of the next title fight on merit alone, White revealed on today’s “UFC Unfiltered” podcast that the promotion is considering a Jones vs. Johnson title eliminator:

“I’m in a weird place. We saw that fight, and it was a great fight. I’ve still got to talk to (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva and see what he thinks. But I’m thinking maybe we do Anthony Johnson vs. Jon Jones to see who gets to fight Daniel Cormier.”

Jones, who is temporarily suspended by the NSAC for two potential USADA anti-doping violations that ruined his UFC 200 main event rematch with Cormier, recently released an Instagram video revealing supposedly “really good” news that would allow him to get back into the Octagon soon. News soon followed that Jones’ failure for two banned estrogen blockers may have been due to Cialis, something that White hinted at.

He couldn’t release any official details, but White did note that Jones shockingly has yet another chance for a comeback, and things are realistically “looking good” for his return:

“I haven’t talked to Jon, but the guy’s got 13 lives. It’s looking good for him. I think he’s got to deal with (the) Nevada (State Athletic Commission) right now and this thing that went down. I can’t say a lot about it because it’s not my place. We’ll see how this thing plays out, but it’s looking good for him.”

As one of the most anticipated bouts in all of MMA – and quite possibly the most at light heavyweight – there’s little question that a Jones vs. ‘Rumble’ match-up would do big business and provide a clear-cut title contender in a division that could only be called a mess due to Jones’ seemingly never-ending troubles outside the cage.

But most wanted to see “Bones” vs. “Rumble” for the official title, and it’s a legitimate question if whether or not Jones will be able to make his way through one training camp, let alone the two he would have to in order to finally realize his long-held rivalry with Cormier.

That’s a lot of variables to fall into place, and it could easily be argued that “Rumble” has done much more than Jones in terms of actual fight accomplishments over the last two years. Jones does own a win over the man who beat “Rumble” in Cormier, however.

If you didn’t think the time-honored UFC 205-pound division was messy enough, it could get a whole lot messier in the coming months, fight fans. Stay tuned.

UFC 202 proved to be one of the greatest cards ever, let alone in 2016. The enjoyment levels of the Las Vegas card got off to a great start with some thoroughly exciting prelims, before the main card delivered in spades. Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz faced off for the second time in the main event, and were nicely backed up by straight finishes on the undercard. Perhaps most notable before the main event was Anthony Johnson’s tooth-removing 13-second KO of Glover Teixeira.

The main attraction rolled in to town, and it was a thriller of epic proportions. We knew the bitter rivals at the top of the card would throw down hard, but most predicted the fight would end in the early or middle rounds. The Irishman and the Stockton bad boy had other ideas, making good use of the championship rounds. By the time the full allotted 25 minutes was up, both men wore the fight.

Respect Between Warriors

After the fight was done we saw a beautiful show of respect between McGregor and Diaz. The fight was indeed close, but in the end it was the Irish star who got his vengeance on Diaz. The judges handed down a majority decision for the featherweight champion. After their narrow war, Diaz didn’t waste time in making his opinion on the outcome known.

The post-fight media scrums were highlighted by Diaz vaping some CBD oil and also claiming he won. The Stockton native says he scored the fight four rounds to one in his own favor. Now three days removed from the event, Diaz is still taking shots at McGregor’s decision win. Check out the social media shot fired from Nate Diaz’s official Twitter account:

Shots Fired!

UFC president Dana White sensationally shot down Diaz’s request for a trilogy fight. In doing so he also revealed that McGregor could fight Eddie Alvarez without having to vacate the 145-pound belt. The decision caused outrage among certain sects of fans, and most likely Diaz too. The lightweight champion Alvarez had already called out for the winner of McGregor vs. Diaz 2 some weeks ago.

It looks as though Jose Aldo might be the junior champ for a little longer than expected.

UFC 202 went down this past Saturday August 20 and the thrilling main event is still fresh in our minds. Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz met in a rematch of their UFC 196 tilt and the result was an instant classic. For five rounds they went toe-to-toe in a clean striking battle, leaving everything they had in the octagon. The judges eventually scored a majority decision for the Irishman, evening the score between the two fierce rivals.

As with their first fight, the fun did not end in the octagon. Just moments after their highly entertaining brawl Diaz was lighting up a vape pen during the post-fight media scrum. When asked what was in the device, Diaz responded by saying it was ‘CBD oil.’ The substance is a Cannabis derived oil and known to help the healing process for a number of medical conditions.

Trouble?

It turns out the UFC’s partner in drug testing of athletes, USADA, is looking in to this potential infraction. As reported first by MMAFighting.com, USADA is currently investigating this possible violation:

“I can confirm that USADA is aware of the situation and is currently gathering information in order to determine the next appropriate steps,”

Nick’s Fight

Nick Diaz has just come off an 18-month suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission following a highly controversial hearing in 2015. The NAC first banned the older Diaz brother for five years, and they weren’t ever able to present solid evidence to prove he was actually over the limit of 150ng/ml of Marijuana metabolites.

If Nate Diaz is found to be in violation of USADA’s strict policies, he could well face a year on the sideline for his use of CBD oil. Although he’s already stated he won’t fight again until a McGregor trilogy is made, this is not great news. That said, the doping agency can use their own discretion in terms of the punishments severity. If chosen they could actually give him a written warning.

CBD Oil

For those wondering, CBD oil does not induce phsycho-activity and is proven to contain far less side effects than THC. The substance has a proven record in treating numerous medical illnesses. USADA would still consider Marijuana a performance enhancing drug though.
