Lorenz Larkin has fought 10 times inside the Octagon, but no bout was bigger than his most recent at UFC 202 in the eyes of many.

Just not Larkin.

The former Strikeforce competitor bruised and battered Neil Magny before stopping the Top-10 welterweight and improving to 5-5 in the UFC and 18-5 overall.

“Going into the fight, I had no pressure on me,” Larkin told reporters following the event. “I was halfway in shape and I just had to have a little mock camp to get myself fully prepared.

“I felt he had more pressure on him than I did. I’m not known. I’m not ranked.”

The 29-year-old Larkin is now 4-1 over his last five after surviving a three-fight losing skid in 2014. That includes finishes of Magny, Santiago Ponzinibbio and John Howard, along with a split decision in his favor vs. Jorge Masvidal.

Prior to signing with the UFC, Larkin was 13-0 with one no-contest to start his career, including a 2012 decision over former UFC champion Robbie Lawler.

Being a close friend and training partner for Nate Diaz, Jake Shields is obviously a little biased when it comes to offering up his thoughts on the UFC 202 main event between Diaz and Conor McGregor.

Regardless, the former Strikeforce champion and UFC title contender was amazed by the effort put forth by both men this past weekend. McGregor claimed a majority decision in Las Vegas, evening the personal rivalry at 1-1.

“It was an amazing fight,” Shields said. “It was one of the best fights I’ve seen in a while. I thought Diaz pulled out a close decision, but I need to go home and re-watch it on TV. Watching it (live) I thought it was close, but I thought Diaz pulled it out.”

After the bout, Diaz mentioned injuries and issues in his training for the camp. Seeing as he was there for most of it, Shields explained what he meant.

“Just some health issues,” Shields said. “I don’t want to make excuses for anybody. He wasn’t able to grapple very much. Still, Conor came out and fought great. Nate came out and fought great.

“I thought they both did well and it was a very entertaining fight to watch.”

After making short work of Rick Story, Donald Cerrone sat back and watched the UFC 202 main event between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.

Cerrone admitted during his post-fight media scrum that he was pulling for Diaz because he simply was not wanting to hear from “Notorious” again.

“Now I gotta listen to this (expletive) dude talk again, forever,” Cerrone said. “I’m not looking forward to that.

“‘The King’ is back….(expletive).”

Cerrone scored his third consecutive win at welterweight – the same weight the McGregor-Diaz bouts took place – when he finished Story. “Cowboy” said afterwards that he wants to face Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title this November at UFC 205 in New York City, but UFC president Dana White sees 170 pounds as a good fit for him.

Dominick Cruz Thought Cody Garbrandt Was C.M Punk

Every time No. 8-ranked UFC bantamweight Cody “No Love” Garbrandt competes it becomes clearer and clearer that he could very well be a legitimate threat to Dominick Cruz’s 135-pound throne. “No Love” made waves when he blasted previously surging contender Thomas Almeida in the first round of their main event bout last May, and he continued that hot wave with another first round finish over veteran Takeya Mizugaki at last night’s (August 20, 2016) UFC 202 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Not only has Garbrant, who trains with Cruz’s longtime rival Urijah Faber, won four straight UFC bouts, but he’s also strung up a bit of a rivalry with the champion. Recently speaking on “No Love”, Cruz said that he was disrespected by the Team Alpha Male product for no reason, also saying that he thought Garbrandt was C.M Punk, who will make his UFC debut at September 10’s UFC 203. “The Dominator” also made it clear that he had no problem facing off with Garbrandt:

“Garbrandt’s been running his mouth for a long time. Cruz said on FOX Sports 1. After I got done fighting Faber, he was right there already jawing, talking about me polishing the belt and whatnot. And it’s like, “Man, alright. Now you’ve disrespected me before I even knew who you were.” I didn’t even say one word to this man. I didn’t even know who he was! No clue! I just thought he was an up-and-comer with crazy tattoos. I thought he was CM Punk for a second, and then he got it together and I was like, “Oh, shoot – that’s not. That’s the CM Punk of the 135 pound division, he’s got all the hype behind him.” So maybe I should just go in there, take the wind from his sails, and then move on and keep beating everybody else.”

Would you like to see these two bantamweights cross paths in the near future?

Donald Cerrone Wants Title Fight With Eddie Alvarez In New York

Former lightweight title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was entering the last fight on his current contract at UFC 202 last night (August 20, 2016) where he took on Rick Story in a welterweight bout. Former lightweight title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was entering the last fight on his current contract at UFC 202 last night (August 20, 2016) where he took on Rick Story in a welterweight bout. Cerrone was able to leave the Octagon successful after smashing Story with a brutal combination in the second round, although he admitted in the aftermath of the bout that he had a rough day prior to fight night:

“I just woke up – worst headache I’ve ever had man,” Cerrone told MMAJunkie after the fight. “All day I was just laying in bed, tired, my shoulders were sore. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. I forgot the key to my Harley. It was a (expletive)-up day. I was trying to get out of first gear and couldn’t do it. That’s what you train for, though, to beat someone on your worst day.”

In recent times, we have seen many fighters test the waters of free agency after fighting out their contracts, but Cerrone is a unique character, and he typically goes about things in his own way. With that being said, “Cowboy” confirmed that he isn’t leaving the world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion:

“I let my management team handle that because all I do is fight,” Cerrone said. “I’m a UFC guy, man. I’m not going anyway. They’re going to work out that, and I’m looking to get 50 fights in this mother(expletive). How about that? … I need to get it done, I want to get it done right away, so we’ll see.

“I just talked with (new UFC owner Ari Emanuel), and they seem very happy with me. I see big things in this company. I feel like I’m a veteran of the sport, and I love it. I love fighting for the UFC. This is my drug. I need it as much as I possible can. I feel like a crackhead up here already looking for another fight. It’s good.”

Not only does he plan to stay with the UFC, but he knows exactly what he would like next. Despite usually being unconcerned with the title, Cerrone said that he’d like to drop back down to 155-pounds after winning three straight at welterweight for a rematch with current lightweight boss Eddie Alvarez at Madison Square Garden:

“Normally I’d just say I’ll take anyone, anywhere – I don’t care who I fight,” Cerrone said. “Then they always tell us, ‘If you want a fight, let up hear about it.’ So god-damn it, here we go. I’m letting someone hear about it. It was my 32nd walk at Zuffa. It’s time. Let’s start making some calls and making some moves.”

Cerrone scored a dominant decision victory over Alvarez at Alvarez’s UFC debut back at UFC 178, and he remains ranked inside the top 10 at 155-pounds. UFC President Dana White, however, said that he would prefer Cerrone to stay at 170-pounds, so it should be interesting to see how the situation plays out.
