Nate Diaz didn’t pull any punches in his recent interview on The MMA Hour with MMAFighting‘s Ariel Helwani, as he boldly claimed he could defeat both Conor McGregor and Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather in the same night.

The Stockton native stated that he and UFC President Dana White had a falling out in terms of negotiation when it came to the financials of a McGregor rematch:

“They weren’t happiest about that, but they’re not talking to me about that. But I think were gonna get things figured out.”

Diaz also spoke on rumors that White had reportedly stormed out of their meeting angrily after his request for more money:

“No that was exaggerated, we finished talking and then we all walked out. It wasn’t the worst meeting, it wasn’t the best meeting, but it wasn’t the worst either.”

“They were cool, I was cool, it was just business talk. We didn’t end on the happiest note but I think we’re moving forward.”

diaz2Helwani asked Diaz if he believed the UFC was using the Mayweather rumors as a ploy to pressure Diaz into taking the McGregor rematch before it’s too late:

“I do think that, we’re on the same page here.”, Diaz joked. “Thats exactly what I think. Every time I hear about it I get a call.

Fight that mutherf*****, I’ll be right here. I’m the only one that can say I can whoop both their asses in one night.”

Diaz then commented on how he believed he would fare inside the ring against Mayweather:

“Mayweather is the best boxer that there is on winning fights. I’ve never been in high-level boxing matches like that. But I bet I’ll do better that McGregor would.”

Nate DiazWhile it is very well known that McGregor is obsessed with a rematch against the man who handed him his first loss under the promotion’s banner, Diaz claims he won’t lose any sleep if the bout never comes to fruition:

“I don’t even give a fu**. If I got my ass wooped I’d be begging for the fight. If you don’t want to rematch somebody who beat you, then I don’t know what the f*** your in this for. So I’m not begging for this fight.”

While a rematch between McGregor and Diaz is the obvious angle the UFC is hoping for, it appears we will have to wait until negotiations between Diaz and the UFC improve before seeing the two men throw down inside the Octagon again.

Nate Diaz has gotten a lot more notoriety in the media lately since defeating Conor McGregor at UFC 196 back in March, and he knows his newfound worth.

In an exclusive interview today with MMAFighting‘s Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Diaz dished on a variety of topics including his sit-down meeting with UFC President Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta in his hometown of Stockton:

“Yeah, for sure it was the first time, they’ve never been out here so it was cool”, Diaz said. “They hit me up about UFC 202. I didn’t even answer, I said ‘I wonder what’s gonna happen with that’”.

NateDiazMedicalSuspension2The Stockton native then commented on the rumors of a potential boxing match between McGregor and boxing legend Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather:

“I hear all this Mayweather McGregor shit, I feel like that’s a big old publicity stunt to hide that he got his ass whooped”.

Diaz then spoke on McGregor’s meeting with White and Fertitta, and how both men looked happy following the meeting.

“They called my management that next day and said are you in or not?,” he said. Diaz jokingly continued, “Where’s my dinner? wheres my special meeting?”

According to Diaz, White and Fertitta flew out the next afternoon to talk a potential rematch with the Irishman:

“We went to lunch and we had a talk, everything went how it did and they went home. I just basically told them what was up. I said look, that was the biggest fight they had. I know, if whether they want to say it or not, that I put bigger numbers in than anyone else too, but they just put me on a Fox card.

“I just beat your biggest draw, so if you don’t mind I’d like to be compensated better than I was last time.”

Conor McGregor vs. Nate DiazDiaz then went on to say he has accepted a fight with McGregor multiple times, and how he believes the UFC 200 fiasco was a ploy to buy the Irishman more time:

“I’ve said yes to this Conor McGregor fight six times, and I fought him one time and I won,” he said. “I don’t think the fight was ever on, I think they were buying him more time.”

“I think the Mayweather thing is a publicity stunt.”

Though rumors surrounding the possible McGregor vs Mayweather boxing match have been running rampant these past few weeks, Diaz is not convinced it’s happening and that the UFC is just buying the Irishman more time to prepare. Do you agree?

According to a report by Jeremy Botter, the planned rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz will now take place at UFC 202 on August 20.

No location or venue for the event has been reported.

On Friday, rumors started pouring out concerning a possible McGregor-Floyd Mayweather boxing match coming together. McGregor, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, remains under contract with the UFC despite his refusal to do a press tour for UFC 200.

Officials removed McGregor – and eventually Diaz – from the July 9 card after the ordeal.

Earlier this year, Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round in a welterweight battle.

The rollercoaster that is Conor McGregor’s UFC career has been one of endless undulation. From his historically hot start, to his tightly contested battle with Chad Mendes, to his unprecedented KO of former featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo and back down to his upset loss against Nate Diaz, “The Notorious’” time in the UFC has been anything but boring. Even when his name does not appear on any fight cards coming up in the near future, he still manages to dominate the headlines.

His recent verbal scuffle with UFC brass culminated with his removal from the landmark UFC 200 event, where McGregor was scheduled to try and avenge his only UFC loss to lightweight boxing ace Nate Diaz. Amid constant speculation as to when the Irish striker would make his return to the Octagon, his increasingly outspoken coach, John Kavanagh, gave his two cents today (May 3, 2016) on the ever-popular subject:

[Conor will return at] 201 or 202, announcement to come soon I’m sure.”

So, according to Kavanagh, “The Notorious” should be making his return to combat at either UFC 201 or 202. There are currently no set dates for either of these cards and his opponent has obviously yet to be named, but if UFC President Dana White has anything to say on the matter (and you best believe he does), McGregor will face the winner of Jose Aldo versus Frankie Edgar who will step into the cage together for the interim featherweight title at UFC 200 on July 9.

However, there are just two problems with this. First, the gap between UFC 200 and UFC 201 (even 202) is entirely too close for either Edgar or Aldo to [successfully] make that turnaround and second, both McGregor and his teammates have been quite clear that the weight cut down to 145lbs is just too taxing on his body. So, the likely and heavily favored choice would be for McGregor and Nate Diaz to square off again and settle their business once and for all.

Either way, it’s looking more and more doubtful that Conor McGregor will ever return to the featherweight division that he so handily mowed through. He’s been quite vocal about his reluctance to relinquish his gold, but if his body just can’t handle the weight cut anymore, he may have to set his sights on the lightweight belt and his old pal, Mr. Rafael dos Anjos.

No matter what the outcome, you can bet your bottom dollar that “Notorious” will grace the Octagon with his presence again in 2016.

With an absolutely monstrous amount of speculation, hype, and arguing going on over featherweight champion Conor McGregor’s ‘retirement’ and unceremonious removal from his feature rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 200, it’s hard to decipher exactly why ‘The Notorious’ has stirred up the drama he has.

The most obvious surface reason would be money, but UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta recently begged the question as to why a fighter making $10 million for his next bout would cause problems. McGregor has insisted that he needs to get back to the roots of his once-arduous training after getting mercilessly submitted by Diaz at March’s UFC 196, and he cited that as the reason he couldn’t attend the initial round of promotional press conferences for UFC 200.

However, regardless of the validity of his stance or not, many believe that McGregor was exposed against Diaz and is headed for a big fall, so he’s looking to make as big a payday as possible for a fight he most likely won’t win. One such believer in that theory is top-ranked lightweight Eddie Alvarez, who will take on champion Rafael dos Anjos in the first card of the UFC’s jam-packed weekend that will cap off July’s International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

Alvarez revealed a simple gameplan to beat McGregor prior to Diaz’ win over McGregor, and it involved taking the Irishman to the mat and submitting him as his opponents had done in his prior two losses. Speaking up to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Alvarez reiterated the step-to-step focus of his plan:

“The secret I was talking about is just taking the guy down, dumping him on his head, and then submitting him.”

eddie alvarez 1

As for Diaz’ prior win over McGregor, Alvarez insisted McGregor wasn’t ready for the bigger, rangier boxer after facing much smaller competition at his usual home of featherweight:

“Nate has a reach, and I think everybody was so up on Conor, and Nate just has this, he has a weirdly long, long reach, and it’s difficult to deal with,” Alvarez said. “Unless you have guys in front of you who are 6’, 6’2″ boxers throwing punches at you, it’s hard to prepare in that way. He’s sort of an awkward opponent to deal with, and you need the right guys in front of you to deal with that. Conor just couldn’t adjust.”

And while McGregor may have been submitted in his perceived area of weakness on the ground, he also appeared to gas in the second round to open up the way for Diaz to lock on a fight-ending choke. After witnessing the outspoken superstar fade, Alvarez doesn’t believe McGregor will be a championship fighter because he doesn’t have the stamina for more than two rounds:

“And to be honest with you, Conor’s a one-or-two-round fighter,” Alvarez said. “He’s not a championship fighter, you know what I mean? He’s a one-or-two-round guy. He’ll be a lifer, I think, in three-rounders. If he ever decides to do five-rounders or go past to five, I think most of his fights are going to look like that. He’s going to take a dump.”

Finally, even though Diaz vs. McGregor II is off UFC 200 (for now at least), McGregor insisted earlier today that ‘no one gives a f*ck about these other fights’ as he prompted the UFC to ‘run it back,’ so a rematch could go down sometime shortly thereafter; perhaps either at UFC 201 or 202 later this year. If and when that does happen, Alvarez is picking Diaz to win once again as many have already predicted him to do:

“Oh, yeah [I’m expecting Diaz to win again],” Alvarez said. “Look, Conor couldn’t even win for two rounds. If he has to deal with any amount of adversity, how’s he going to end up winning? He was beating the sh*t out of Nate. If you can’t win for two rounds, how are you going to be in a fight with Nate Diaz? He was winning. He was beating the sh*t out of him. And he couldn’t keep up with his own winning. That was odd to me.”
