Newly crowned UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is gearing up to defend his title for the very first time against longtime veteran Dan Henderson in the main event of next weekend’s (October 8, 2016) UFC 204 from Manchester, England. If he does indeed get by Henderson, multiple options will await him as two pivotal 185-pound bouts are set to take place in the near future.

Former titleholder Luke Rockhold, who Bisping knocked out last June, will face off with No. 3-ranked Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza next month, and No. 2-ranked Chris Weidman will battle with No. 4-ranked Yoel Romero, who’s coming off of a six month suspension, at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016.

Although it’s currently unclear which winner will receive the next title shot, Bisping has an idea of who he’d like to fight if he outlasts Henderson:

“I’ll tell you who I don’t think deserves it — Yoel Romero,” Bisping said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “I don’t think he deserves it. There’s no smoke without fire. He got a reduced sentence, but the fact is, he still got a sentence. Even if you take performance enhancing drugs, the benefits of those stay in your system for a long, long time. So I don’t think Yoel Romero deserves it.”

“I would like Chris Weidman simply because, listen, for all the back and forth and the s— talking and because for all of that, I respect Chris Weidman,” Bisping said. “I like Chris Weidman and what he does. He’s got a little bit of a case of sour grapes and this and that, he’s talking a lot s— about me, but, you know, I respect this guy, the way carries himself and this and that, you know, he’s a likable guy. But he’s talking shit, so I’d like to fight him.”

Bisping also made his prediction for the two upcoming bouts:

“I beat Luke Rockhold, I knocked him out Yoel Romero I have no interest, Jacare is another guy, he’s nice as well. They’re all worthy, they’re all very very good, but of course Yoel is coming off a ban for performance enhancing drugs. But other than that, you know who I think wins? I think Weidman beats Romero and I think Jacare beats Rockhold.”
Do you agree with his predictions?

Michael Bisping is able to see through what others haven’t – at least in the eyes of the reigning UFC middleweight champion.

As Bisping prepares for his first title defense Saturday at UFC 204 opposite Dan Henderson, he explained why he doesn’t view Yoel Romero as a potential challenger down the road during an appearance on “The MMA Hour” Monday.

Romero meets former UFC champion Chris Weidman next month at UFC 205.

“I’ll tell you who I don’t think deserves it — Yoel Romero,” Bisping said (thanks to MMAFighting for transcribing). “I don’t think he deserves it. There’s no smoke without fire. He got a reduced sentence, but the fact is, he still got a sentence. Even if you take performance enhancing drugs, the benefits of those stay in your system for a long, long time. So I don’t think Yoel Romero deserves it.”

Romero was given a six-month suspension for a failed test, down from the two-year ban originally expected. He claimed the result came from a tainted supplement.

Michael Bisping Wants To Fight ‘GSP’ If He’s ‘Grown A Set Of Balls’

UFC middleweight champion Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping is all set to make his first career UFC title defense when he steps into the Octagon against longtime rival Dan Henderson in the main event of UFC 204. UFC middleweight champion Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping is all set to make his first career UFC title defense when he steps into the Octagon against longtime rival Dan Henderson in the main event of UFC 204.

While Bisping is ready to go to war later this month, former 170-pound champ Georges St-Pierre is inching closer and closer to making his highly-anticipated return to Octagon action. ‘GSP’ named Bisping and his new welterweight strap as a possible target upon his return, and ‘The Count’ is more than willing to go toe-to-toe with the Canadian phenom for his crown:

“If GSP wants to come out of retirement,” Bisping recently said (courtesy of MMA Fighting), “if he’s finally grown a set of balls to become a fighter again, (I could) beat Anderson Silva, beat Dan Henderson, beat Luke Rockhold, beat GSP? Yeah, why not. Of course.”

Before he even thinks about defending his title against St-Pierre, however, Bisping must first get past the man that viciously put his lights out in their initial meeting at UFC 100 with a scorching right hand in the second round.

Looking back on the bout just seven years later, Bisping admits the performance was not the best of his career but takes nothing away from Henderson’s victory that night, and is looking forward for his shot at redemption:

“In that fight, I was very skittish,” Bisping said. “I was. I wasn’t committing, I was on the back foot constantly. It was just a bad performance and a bad gameplan. I was over-trained. Listen, I’m not trying to discredit him.

God bless him, good for him, he got me. He got me good. What can you say? It’s part of history, I’m not bitter about it. It is what it is. This is a tough sport that we’re in. He got me good. And I get a chance for revenge.”

After the knockout Bisping was clearly knocked out, but that didn’t stop Henderson from following up his knockout left hook with an unforgiving flying elbow for good measure.

Bisping, however, holds no animosity against ‘Hendo’ for his followup blow, but vows that this time out the former Pride champ won’t be landing ‘sh*t’ in their clash in Manchester:

“Listen, in this sport, you keep going until the referee drags you off,” Bisping said. “I have no problem with it. It is was it is. We signed up for this business, I got knocked out, he followed it up. Good well done.

We can sit and we can ponder as to whether he’ll do it a second time — it ain’t going to happen a second time. He ain’t going to land sh*t. I’m going to be all over the place, too fast, pick him apart, finish him in the later rounds.”

michael-bisping-luke-rockhold-ufc_3478573After serving ten years in the grueling and unforgiving sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) under the UFC’s banner, Bisping has finally reached the top of the mountain after having defeated Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 to win his first ever world title.

Now heading into his first ever title defense against Henderson, Bisping realizes he has a lot to lose this time around, but won’t let that stop him from doing what he has to do to get the win:

“Of course, there’s a lot to lose,” Bisping said. “I’m very proud to be the world champion. I plan on hanging onto this for a long, long time. Me and Dan have history, there’s a story there, a lot of people want to see it.

The reaction to the fight when it was teased on social media was very big, so I get a chance for revenge. I get to get that one back off Dan, and if I lose, yeah, of course, come on, it doesn’t matter who it is. If I lose, I lose the belt. Simple as that, so that’s not good.

“So regardless of the opponent, I’ve got to win this fight.”

Bisping and Henderson will meet in the main event of UFC 204 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England on October 8, 2016.

Dan Henderson: Michael Bisping ‘Looks A Lot Bigger’ Than He Did At UFC 100

Dan Henderson is starting to shoot daggers at UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping in advance of their fight at UFC 204 in Manchester. MMAFighting reports that at a media day, “Hendo” appeared to take issue with the narrative that Bisping and others have painted about both that fight and some of Lisping’s other major losses.

Their first fight, at UFC 200, was billed as a middleweight title eliminator. While Henderson won by memorable knockout, he left for Strikeforce and never got the title shot (well, at least until now). Bisping later got two more title eliminators, against Chael Sonnen and then Vitor Belfort, losing both. Henderson, Sonnen, and Belfort were all on testosterone replacement therapy, which was allowed at the time. Bisping had always felt he didn’t get a fair shake as a result.

“I think he’s a little bit naive about certain things,” said Henderson at the media event. “I was taking TRT when it was legal and really wasn’t taking much. That’s why I think it’s funny. I think his body has changed more since we fought the first time than mine has. He looks a lot bigger and a lot different now than he did then. I look about the same except for maybe a little grayer here and there.”

For his part, Bisping went with sarcasm in response. “Dan Henderson, you were on TRT,” Bisping said at the gym day. “You were the godfather of TRT. Shame on you. This is the guy that says he needed TRT to be able to compete. Yet years later, he’s still competing. This guy is a marvel to modern science. Perhaps if you take his blood, we can find the cure for cancer. Because this guy is an anomaly.” He also offered to take blood and urine tests on the spot.
