Newly crowned Invicta FC interim featherweight champion Megan Anderson isn’t one to get complacent. Despite just winning gold last night (Jan. 14), the Australian bruiser has her eyes on a bigger prize. After her win, this is what she said inside the cage:
“Dana White, you tell Holly or Germaine to keep my belt warm, because I’m f*cking coming for it.”
Anderson took on Charmaine Tweet for the interim 145-pound title. Tweet got some good shots in the first round, but she couldn’t stop Anderson’s aggression. A barrage of strikes in the second round ended up being Tweet’s downfall as she could no longer fight back and the fight was stopped.
Anderson was interviewed backstage after the bout. She said taking shots early in the fight didn’t bother her because the plan was to be offensive:
“That’s my style. The first round I was a little slower, so I feel at this point she was able to maybe hit me a little more than I liked. But we made adjustments in the second. Moving forward is my forte and using that range and I didn’t give a sh*t what she was throwing at me because I was coming. And there’s nothing she could do to stop me.”
The inaugural UFC women’s featherweight title bout is set for UFC 208 inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The two women who will be competing for the championship are Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie. They will do battle on Feb. 11. Anderson will be paying close attention to that fight as she has made it clear, she wants a shot at the winner.
“Hello Sean (Shelby) and Mick (Maynard). Hello Mr. Dana White. I’ll be coming for that belt. So you tell the girls Holly or Germaine or whoever wins it, I’m coming for it.”

Just when it seemed as if fight fans might want to skip over UFC 208, the UFC goes and adds a legend.
Anderson Silva, the former UFC middleweight king, will meet Derek Brunson from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The event takes place February 11 and features Holly Holm vs. Germaine de Randamie for the inaugural female featherweight title.
The 41-year-old Silva (33-8) hasn’t won a fight since he finished Stephan Bonnar back in 2012. He lost back-to-back bouts to Chris Weidman in 2013, had a win over Nick Diaz reversed to a no-contest due to a failed drug test and is coming off decision losses to Michael Bisping and Daniel Cormier.
Brunson (16-4) will have the biggest fight of his life against “The Spider.” He had won five in a row before falling to Robert Whittaker via strikes in November. His run included wins vs. Uriah Hall, Sam Alvey and Lorenz Larkin.
Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva made headlines earlier today (January 13, 2017) when he expressed his interest in a rematch with reigning 185-pound titleholder Michael Bisping. Silva also said said that he had ‘five or six’ fights left on his current UFC contract, and that he planned to complete it. Before

Silva also said said that he had ‘five or six’ fights left on his current UFC contract, and that he planned to complete it.
Before he works his way up to a rematch with Bisping, however, “The Spider” will return to action against No. 8-ranked Derek Brunson at Feb. 11’s UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
UFC President Dana White announced the news on his official Instagram account.
The once dominant Silva has fallen on rough times as of late, as he hasn’t won a fight since Oct. 2012. He stands at 0-4-1 in his last five bouts, and he’s coming off of a decision loss to light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier last July. Despite his recent losing streak, Silva remains one of the most well-known names in the sport as well as one of the most iconic champions of all-time.
Brunson, on the other hand, is coming off of a disappointing stoppage loss to Robert Whittaker last November. Prior to that, however, he had won five straight including four by way of stoppage.
UFC 208 is set to be headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie.
Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is currently preparing to attempt to make MMA history once again when she takes on Germaine de Randamie for the inaugural women’s 145-pound title in the main event of UFC 208. Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is currently preparing to attempt to make MMA history once again when she takes on Germaine de Randamie for the inaugural women’s 145-pound title in the main event of UFC 208.
Holm made herself well known to the mainstream mixed martial arts (MMA) world after she dismantled formerly dominant champion Ronda Rousey with a second round head kick at UFC 193 in 2015, handing ‘Rowdy’ the first loss of her MMA career.
Since the historical victory, Holm has suffered two consecutive losses that have forced the Jackson-Wink product to regroup, as she now shifts her focus to heading the newest female weight division in the UFC.
As for Rousey, however, the former Olympic Judoka made her highly-anticipated return to Octagon action last month (Saturday, December 30, 2016) against current bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes after refusing to perform media obligations leading up to the championship contest. Nunes made quick work of Rousey once they took to the Octagon, finishing the fight in just 48 seconds with a TKO stoppage.
Recently speaking to MMA Fighting(via Bloody Elbow), Holm believes that Rousey’s reluctance to speak to the media leading up to the contest could have been a sign she was not in the right mental state to resume her combat sports career:
“I was a little worried about her mental game getting in there,” Holm said. “I know a lot of people said ‘no MMA media, none of that’, because she didn’t want any distractions. Well, I really hate to do all of it, but guess what, that’s what comes with the fight, and if I didn’t do it, I don’t even think I would be ready for the fight.”
‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ is a firm believer that if a fighter isn’t able to discuss their upcoming bout, then they probably aren’t ready to get in the cage and throw-down for 15 minutes or more:
“If you can’t even talk about it, if you can’t even be doing the normal thing leading up, I don’t think you’re really ready to get in there and actually fight. If you can’t really talk about it, how are you gonna get in and perform on it?”
“I’m kind of a believer in that. I feel like you have to be able to kind of face it, and sometimes I think if you’re trying to ignore those facts, I feel like the focus really isn’t there. So I was kind of worried if she gets in, is she really gonna be ready to just go, when she hasn’t really had to talk about it or face it or really get into it in that way.”
Holm and De Randamie will meet in the main event of UFC 208 live on pay-per-view (PPV) for the inaugural women’s featherweight title, from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on February 11, 2017.
Many may have been scratching their heads when the UFC announced that No. 2-ranked middleweight Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza will meet No. 14-ranked Tim Boetsch at UFC 208, but Souza is just happy that he won’t be sidelined for a period of time that may cause him to get rusty.
Souza recently spoke with MMA Fighting to discuss his upcoming contest with Boetsch, in which he expressed his disappointment in not being able to take on a top ranked opponent at 185 pounds due to a plethora of injuries in the division:
“At least I have an opponent and a fight,” Souza said. “Fighters that stayed inactive for a long time don’t do well in the end, so I wanted to stay active. My intention was to fight a top contender in the division, but everyone is hurt.”
‘Jacare’ was originally set to meet former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at UFC Melbourne this past November, what would have been a rematch from their initial Strikeforce bout in 2011 which Rockhold won via unanimous decision, but unfortunately Rockhold was forced out with an injury.
Since then Rockhold has been seen training on social media in addition to challenging former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to a grappling match, sparking skepticism from Souza who is beginning to wonder if the AKA product was ever really injured at all:
“Rockhold is afraid,” Souza said. “He said he’s hurt, but I see him training all the time on social media, and then he said he wanted to face Jon Jones in a grappling match in January. That makes no sense. He’s not hurt. If he’s injured, he can’t grapple Jon Jones. That’s impossible.
“It bothers me because I wanted to fight in November. Injuries are part of the sport, it happens, but I never thought Rockhold would fake an injury. At first I thought he was hurt, but now I see he just chickened out. It’s clear he’s not injured.”
As for Souza’s upcoming meeting with Boetsch, the Brazilian is not overlooking his lesser-ranked foe, as he gives him credit for his fight-ending power that has been the downfall of his past two opponents:
“This guy is trouble. Tim Boetsch is trouble,” Souza said. “He has a heavy hand and can complicate anyone, but I will stay focused to put on a great fight and win. His power is incredible. He’s really dangerous. If you blink, you might wake up later wondering what happened.”
With a win over Boetsch, Souza could finally get his long-awaited shot at UFC gold. The UFC’s current 185-pound champion, Michael Bisping, has been campaigning alongside welterweight champion Tyron Woodley for the UFC to make a catchweight bout of 180 pounds between the two.
After those attempts failed Bisping now awaits the next challenger to his throne, but ‘Jacare’ believes the ‘accidental champion’ Bisping’s recent actions were a cowardly attempt to dodge the top contender at 185 pounds:
“I don’t even want to hear about Bisping anymore, because he’s a p*ssy,” “”Jacare” said. “He wants to fight anyone but the top contenders in the middleweight division. I won’t run after a p*ssy like Bisping. Everybody knows he became champion by accident. That was an accident. And now he doesn’t wanna fight a top contender. He wants to hatch the belt.”
“That’s typical of him,” Souza said. “I won’t waste any energy with this nonsense.”
Souza and Boetsch will meet at UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on February 11, 2017.

According to a report from MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC has canceled a UFC Fight Pass card that was set to take place on March 3, 2016 from Las Vegas Nevada, just one day prior to March 4’s UFC 209.
The promotion didn’t give a reason for scrapping the event, although the card had yet to be filled out with fights.
This isn’t the first time the UFC has cancelled an event this year, as the promotion announced late last year that it would be cancelling UFC 208, which was scheduled for Jan. 21, 2016 in Anaheim, California. The event has since been moved to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and will take place on Feb 11, 2016. An inaugural women’s featherweight title fight between Holly Holm and Germain de Randamie will headline that card.
The UFC cancelling multiple events less than a month into the new year is certainly an interesting topic especially given the fact that the promotion is currently lacking big stars. It is expected that new owners WME-IMG will look to cut down on the number of events held per year and perhaps this is the first step in doing so.
