Daniel Cormier has been vicious on the mic as of late.

The reigning light heavyweight champion is scheduled to finally defend his crown against Jon Jones, as the pair are booked to collide at UFC 214 live on pay-per-view (PPV) this summer in Anaheim, California.

A press conference was held last week to promote the bout, in addition to a slew of other fights on docket for the summer, but Jones and “DC” stole the show with their entertaining back-and-forth. Jones continued to mock Cormier’s legitimacy as 205-pound champ, seeing as Cormier never defeated Jones to earn the belt, and Cormier poked fun at “Bones’” history of drug abuse.

Cormier took a slight bit of backlash for using such a touchy subject against Jones at the presser, however, the light heavyweight champ showed no remorse in a recent interview with Brett Okamoto on the 5ive Rounds podcast (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Why?” Cormier said. “Even after UFC 200 I didn’t go and just start ripping Jon after that fight happened and I had to fight Anderson [Silva] under those circumstances. I took the high road, as I’ve done on a number of occasions. But why? Why should I still continue to do this because I feel as though the things that he’s done have not only affected him but it does really affect me, not only financially but it’s affected negatively on my career at this point.”

Jones and Cormier were once set to unify their light heavyweight titles (Jones winning the interim 205-pound strap from Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197 in April of last year) in the main event of UFC 200 last year, however, Jones was flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), leaving Cormier high and dry without an opponent.

Cormier was instead paired up with former UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva, and won the contest via unanimous decision, but he was bumped down out of the main event and most likely lost a significant amount of PPV points. Because of all Jones has cost him, Cormier feels he’s well within his rights to fire off these personal shots at Jones:

“It’s not like this is anything that’s untrue. Everything I say is really true. I’m not saying anything that I’m just making up. All this stuff is true. So if the truth hurts, then don’t let that be your truth anymore. But it’s just the truth so if I want to tell the truth, everybody doesn’t have to like my truth, because I know it.”

“DC” also echoed sentiments he made earlier this week, stating that if Jones was willing to resort to cocaine use right before a fight, who’s to say he wouldn’t abuse performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) to give him the upper hand inside the Octagon?

Cormier stated that he also noticed some interesting things during Jones’ fight with Ovince Saint Preux:

“I said yesterday that a person that would do something negative to themselves right before a fight would be willing to do something that would help him going into a fight. That’s just my thought, that’s my opinion. Also, I just don’t feel like the things that, from our first fight, the month before, I don’t know if it’s hormones or testosterone levels were all jacked and turned around. We’re up in the Bay Area and Javier [Mendes, head coach at American Kickboxing Academy] knows that Victor Conte guy and that guy was talking to Jav and Jav was repeating all this stuff to me about levels and how it points to some pretty shifty stuff but I just let it go. I lost the fight. Whatever, you won.

“But to go out there and put on all this muscle before you fight Ovince [Saint Preux], physically he looked better than I’d ever seen him look – physically, to the blind eye -and then fight a little lethargic, a little slow, he seemed a little less sure of himself than he did before. Then to come back the next fight and have all the things that would be found if someone was trying to mask something, with all the history, I say yeah. I feel like the Ovince Saint Preux fight he said, ‘you know, USADA’s around, I should probably do this clean.’ So he did it with the weight lifting and when he didn’t feel as himself in that fight, I feel he said, ‘I don’t want to lose to Daniel so I’m just gonna chance it,’ and he tried to chance it and he got caught. That’s my thought.”

Although his words already may have been harsh enough, Cormier hasn’t pulled out everything from his bag of tricks leading up to his fight with Jones, and is anticipating his opportunity at vengeance when he gets his hands on the first and only man to defeat him in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition on July 29th:

“I’ve saved a little bit. You can’t just throw it all out there, you’ve got to let some stuff linger for a little bit.”

“DC” Isn’t Sorry For Calling Out Jones’ Drug Issues

Nothing is off limits when it comes to trash-talking for Daniel Cormier – nothing.

The light heavyweight champion and Jon Jones are once again booked for their rematch inside the Octagon, but we’ve seen this same story once or twice before. Jones and Cormier were initially set to rematch at UFC 197 back in April of last year, however, Cormier was forced out of the contest due to injury and was replaced with Ovince Saint Preux.

After Jones won the interim 205-pound title from “OSP” he was set to collide with “DC” in a unification bout as the main event of UFC 200 last summer. Unfortunately Jones ran into some trouble with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after testing positive for a banned substance.

Jones was suspended for one-year for the debacle, and is set to return to Octagon action at UFC 214 on pay-per-view (PPV) from Anaheim, California against Cormier for the title.

A UFC Summer Kickoff press conference was held to promote the biggest upcoming bouts of the summer this past weekend in Dallas for UFC 211, with Jones and Cormier sitting front and center. As you can imagine, the pair let off a slew of trash-talk towards one another which included Cormier poking fun at Jones’ history of drug abuse.

Cormier recently joined The Luke Thomas Show on SiriusXM to discuss if making light of Jones’ past struggles is going to far, to which the light heavyweight champion responded that he doesn’t believe it is (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“These things are so public. These instances are so public,” Cormier said. “If he was doing all this stuff to himself and by himself and not affecting people, I probably wouldn’t say anything. But his indiscretions and mess-ups have greatly influenced my career, too, in the way I’m perceived. A lot of people may say, ‘Well, you would never be the champion if he didn’t do those things.’ Maybe he would’ve beat me again, but we would’ve fought already to decide that.

“But even though I am champion, because of the things that he’s done to get in that situation, people never really, truly respect me as they should. Not only are they not respecting me as they should, they’re discrediting everything I have done. So, it’s not off limits. And my whole thing is this. …

“Some guy said this to me: ‘Daniel, if you knew the struggle, you would never say the things you say.’ And I said, ‘Well, I don’t know the struggle, because I know how dangerous it is. So I don’t mess with it.’ … You’re not born with addiction issues. You make the choice to start to mess with that.”

Cormier took his tirade against Jones one step further by insinuating that “Bones” has been cheating his entire career, stating that if he’s willing to do cocaine right before a fight then he’s probably willing to take a performance enhancing drug (PED):

“If you’re willing to do that right before a fight, and that’s something that can be detrimental to you going forward, why wouldn’t you do something that could help you?” Cormier said. “That’s my philosophy. I could be wrong. I do believe that this dude has been cheating his entire life, though. Why not?”

Cyborg Justino’s next Octagon appearance is reportedly set.

The Brazilian made her UFC nearly a year ago at UFC 198 from her hometown of Fortaleza, Brazil. She took on Leslie Smith and got the first round TKO victory in just over a minute.

She followed that up with another brilliant performance against UFC newcomer Lina Lansberg four months later and earned yet another TKO victory. The former Invicta FC Champ campaigned hard for the UFC to implement a female 145-pound weight class, and they did – but Cyborg wasn’t a part of it.

After a brief run in with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which she was later cleared of, Cyborg is now cleared to get back into the Octagon. According to a report from Combate, Justino will be throwing down with former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano.

Zingano has had quite the career, as she has victories over former 135-pound champions Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes. She then met former division queen Ronda Rousey and was submitted in just 14 seconds of the first round, handing her her first career loss in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).

After nearly two years off from competition, Zingano returned last summer against Julianna Pena lost a unanimous decision after 25 minutes of combat. Now it seems she will try her hand against a women who is considered the pound-for-pound best female fighter of all time by some, 10 pounds above her usual weight class.

The pair are reportedly targeted to face-off at UFC 214 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on July 29, 2017. The card will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between hated rivals Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. It also features a featherweight clash between rising featherweight star Doo Ho Choi and Andre Fili. Those are the only two fights finalized for the card as of this writing.

Earlier today (May 12, 2017) at the UFC’s Summer Kickoff Press Conference, it was officially announced that light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former titleholder Jon Jones will finally rematch at July 29’s UFC 214 from Anaheim, California.

It didn’t take long for the two to start trading verbal blows, as Jones quickly said that Cormier wouldn’t be the true champion until he beats him:

“F*ck no,” Jones said. “He never beat me. He never beat me, so the belt that he has over there, it’s an imaginary belt. I messed up outside of the Octagon and I got that taken away from me, but the guy’s never beaten me. In order to be the champion, you have to beat the champion. He can fight all the other light heavyweights that he wants, he can beat every light heavyweight — until he beats me, that belt over there is a piece of sh*t.”

Cormier then responded by taking a jab at Jones’ previous issues outside of the cage, highlighting his positive drug test for cocaine metabolites surrounding UFC 182, which is when the pair first fought:

“So, I’m sitting here, and I see him. Like, I see him. He’s over there. But is he really going to be in Anaheim?” Cormier said. “Is this guy really going to go to the fight? Is this guy going to mess this up again by doing steroids or snorting cocaine or sandblasting prostitutes. What’s this guy going to do to mess this up this time?”

Jones, however, was quick to remind Cormier that he beat him ‘after a weekend of cocaine’, as he did indeed scored a unanimous decision victory over “DC” in their first meeting:

“Prostitutes? I beat you after a weekend of cocaine,” Jones shot back.

“I had two great weekends,” answered Jones. “Back-to-back weekends. Cocaine one, your ass the next. It was great. That’s a month for the ages.”

Who do you expect to walk away from UFC 214 wearing 205-pound gold?
