Is Georges St-Pierre already making his way down to lightweight?

Some evidence has arisen that may support George St-Pierre cutting down to lightweight.

The former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion has often teased a high-profile bout with the winner of UFC 229’s Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor. UFC President Dana White insists he’s not interested in it, but the dollar signs may be too hard to pass up.

St-Pierre has been out of action since he submitted Michael Bisping at last November’s UFC 217 from New York. He won the middleweight title but vacated it soon thereafter. “GSP” cited a bout with colitis due to the increased food intake he required to compete at 185 pounds. He’s since discussed returning at lightweight to win an unprecedented third belt, but nothing is confirmed.

Some evidence suggesting that may be true recently arose, however. St-Pierre posted a picture on Instagram of him looking decidedly smaller than the last time we saw him. Check it out:

St-Pierre simply looks like he’s lost a lot of weight since he last fought. Some of that could be because of his stomach ailment, yet he’s said he only wants to fight in only the biggest fights in order to make it worthwhile.

A fight with the winner of Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor is the obviously the biggest he could hope to book. It would tie up the UFC lightweight division even more after it only got back on track somewhat when Khabib won the vacated title at April’s UFC 223.

But in this era of money-focused super fights, there’s not much to support the theory that Endeavor would pass this up. And you know, Dana White said it wasn’t happening.

Stay tuned.

Georges St-Pierre Weighs In On UFC’s GOAT Debate

One of the best welterweight fighters of all time George St.Pierre doesn’t think he is MMA’s GOAT.

The post Georges St-Pierre Weighs In On UFC’s GOAT Debate appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

There are only a handful of fighters in MMA that legitimately have a stake at the GOAT claim. It’s time Georges St-Pierre weighs in on the endless debate.

St-Pierre (26-2) is a two-time welterweight champion and recently came out of retirement, moved up in weight, and captured the middleweight title from Michael Bisping at 2017’s UFC 217.

“Rush” previously walked away from MMA after his victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in 2013. Leaving fans scratching their heads as to why one of the greatest fighters of all time would step away at his zenith.

St-Pierre’s accomplishments certainly bolster his claim to the GOAT conversation, but don’t tell him that.

“I don’t really consider myself the greatest in my era. It’s a subject I can debate for a long time,” said St-Pierre during a recent press conference in Australia via Submission Radio.

The always-modest GSP believes there is no such thing as the greatest of all-time. He also thinks the term “baddest man on the planet” is a mere illusion.

“There is no baddest man on the planet. Nobody is invincible, and even though you are the champion, it doesn’t mean that there is not another man on the planet that couldn’t beat you at that particular day, at that particular time, at that particular moment,” he said. “I became world champion at a certain moment, particular time and location.”

Video: TJ Dillashaw Stares Down Henry Cejudo, Prompting Speculation

Could TJ Dillashaw vs. Henry Cejudo actually be happening?

The post Video: TJ Dillashaw Stares Down Henry Cejudo, Prompting Speculation appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

If you thought you’d soon see a video where TJ Dillashaw stares down Henry Cejudo, you were correct.

Newly-crowned flyweight champion Cejudo called out Dillashaw after beating Demetrious Johnson at August 4’s UFC 227. “Mighty Mouse” was long rumored to be involved with that fight.

Johnson is believed to be the most deserving former champion for an immediate championship rematch. His 11 consecutive title defenses set a UFC record. Injuries have meanwhile sidelined the all-time great, leading to speculation that Dillashaw vs. Cejudo will actually happen.

The fighters squared off on a recent episode of Extra TV:

As a result, this super fight between the two lower-weight champions could be happening very soon. The UFC loves their ‘super fights’ in the current ‘entertainment’ era. Neither man has a clear-cut challenger that would see, either, so above all, the promotion needs a decent fight to promote.

Cejudo wants to move up to bantamweight, yet it seems like Dillashaw wants to cut down to 125 pounds:

“Be careful what you ask for, brother. I’m takin’ that belt from you.”

The bantamweight champ asserted his confidence he would destroy the flyweight king:

“Always. Absolutely. I’d run through him. I’m taking that belt right off his shoulder. I’ll come over to your house and take it.”

Cejudo insisted he had more gold than Dillashaw after winning an Olympic title and a UFC belt, yet “The Viper” only had one approach in mind:

“How would I approach it? I’d knock him out.”

Rose Namajunas Says Joanna Jedrzejczyk “Just Sounds Stupid”

Rose Namajunas thinks it’s time for Joanna Jedrzejczyk to move on:

The post Rose Namajunas Says Joanna Jedrzejczyk “Just Sounds Stupid” appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

After beating her twice, Rose Namajunas says Joanna Jedrzejczyk just sounds silly.

The UFC women’s strawweight champion feels this way because longtime former champ Jedrzejczyk won’t let their two fights go. Namajunas defeated her by knockout at UFC 217 and then again at UFC 223 earlier this year.

Jedrzejczyk thought she won the second time and has continually said as much in the media. Namajunas thinks it’s beginning to sound a bit ridiculous because it’s time for Jerdzejczyk to move on. The champ told MMA Fighting she was only making herself look silly:

“It don’t really bother me. I know at this point it just kind of sounds silly. The more she talks, the more she just makes herself sound stupid. For me, I like to just try and be positive about everything as much as possible.

“Of course, you can get dragged into silly ****. I just remind myself that she was a great champion. I looked up to her at one point in my life for a reason and I just try and remember what she did for the sport and just kind of leave it at that. She was a great champion, but now it’s my time. And eventually she’s gotta come to terms with that and be OK with it.”

Jedrzejczyk may claim to have won the second fight, but meanwhile, Namajunas isn’t buying that she really believes it. The current champ has a specific reason why as well:

“I think you can just look at her face after our second fight, just look at her face and know how she really felt. Body language kind of shows more than what the words really say or mean. To me, it looked like she was trying to make herself believe in it, that she really won. When she really knew, at the end of the day, that I won the fight.”

Namajunas thinks Jedrzejczyk was a great champion due to her lengthy reign. But she isn’t sure she truly wants to fight the best like she claims:

“I don’t know what she’s thinking, really,” Namajunas said. “But I know what she’s saying and she’s saying I’m scared of this or that. I think all that’s really showing is she don’t want to fight the best. She don’t want to fight me, when she knows I’m the best. She wants me to try and lose to somebody else or something, so she can challenge them or something. But she don’t really want to beat the best — and that’s me.

“Regardless of whatever she wants, whatever is gonna happen is gonna happen and I’m gonna still keep living my life and just remember that she was a great champion. She was a great champion.”
