After beating two of the UFC’s more famous names (though not necessarily the best fighters) in 2016, undefeated welterweight prospect Mickey Gall has been out of action for the entirety of this year.

That will all change at the upcoming UFC 217, however.

Word broke from Newsday (via MMA Fighting) today that Gall will face Randy Brown at the anticipated pay-per-view (PPV) event this November 4 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

The bout will join a quickly forming card which features three title fights when Michael Bisping faces a returning Georges St-Pierre for the middleweight championship, Cody Garbrandt finally defends his bantamweight title against TJ Dillashaw, and strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk battles Rose Namajunas.

Gall has performed well in his short UFC tenure thus far, submitting Mike Jackson, Punk, and Northcutt via rear-naked choke in all three of his octagon bouts. He sits at a promising-but-still-unproven 4-0 in his professional mixed martial arts career after finding the opportunity to compete in the UFC on Dana White’s “Looking For A Fight” online series.

Brown was also found on the show and currently sits at 3-2 in the UFC. He was most recently handed a decision defeat by Belal Muhammad.

Not that it needed it, but UFC 217 has added yet another potentially exciting bout to possibly the most jam-packed lineup of 2017 – at a time when they need just that more than ever. Check out the full updated card right here:

Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre
Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J. Dillashaw
Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Rose Namajunas
Aiemann Zahabi vs. Ricardo Ramos
Johny Hendricks vs. Paulo Borrachinha
Aleksei Oleinik vs. Curtis Blaydes
Gadzhimurad Antigulov vs. Ion Cutelaba
Corey Anderson vs. Patrick Cummins
Stephen Thompson vs. Jorge Masvidal

The UFC has added another title fight to the UFC 217 PPV (pay-per-view) card. The promotion announced on Tuesday morning that Joanna Jedrzejczyk would defend the women’s strawweight title against Rose Namajunas.

This marks the third title bout that will be featured on the card. It’s clear that the UFC is stacking card just like they did last November for the UFC 205 card.

Jedrzejczyk (14-0) will be attempting to make history in this fight as if she wins at the event then she will tie former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s record of consecutive title defenses (six) after victories over several title contenders such as Jessica Andrade, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Claudia Gadelha, Valerie Letourneau and Jessica Penne.

On the flip side, Namajunas (6-3) has made her name known in the division since joining the promotion after competing on The Ultimate Fighter 20 in 2014. During the taping of that reality show, UFC President Dana White thought that she was the ‘next Ronda Rousey.’ She earned the title shot after going 4-1 in her next five fights with her latest win coming by a second-round submission win over Michelle Waterson.

UFC 217 is set to take place on Saturday, November 4th in New York at Madison Square Garden. Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre for the UFC middleweight title will headline this event while Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J. Dillashaw for the UFC bantamweight title is expected to serve as the co-main event.

The UFC will be adding more bouts to this card, and it will likely be stacked. The main card will air on pay-per-view while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass. Here is the updated card:

Champ Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre – for middleweight title
Champ Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J. Dillashaw – for bantamweight title
Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Rose Namajunas – for strawweight title
Stephen Thompson vs. Jorge Masvidal
Paulo Borrachinha vs. Johny Hendricks
Curtis Blaydes vs. Aleksei Oleinik
Corey Anderson vs. Patrick Cummins
Gadzhimurad Antigulov vs. Ion Cutelaba
Ricardo Ramos vs. Aiemann Zahabi

All of the media members who immediately voted embattled UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones back into the top pound-for-pound following his win over Daniel Cormier in July have apparently rethought that position in the weeks after his shocking USADA drug test failure for anabolic steroid Turinabol during the bout.

That’s the case in this week’s official UFC rankings update, where “Bones” fell two spots down the pound-for-pound list to No. 3, moving decorated flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, who will face Ray Borg in an attempt to set the UFC’s all-time record for title defenses in the main event of this weekend’s (Sat., September 9, 2017) UFC 215 from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, into the top spot and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who needs no such introduction even though he’s 2-2 in his last four combat sports bouts.

The only division that saw significant movement this week was heavyweight, where Nos. 4-7 fighters Francis Ngannou, Mark Hunt, Derrick Lewis, and Alexander Volkov all moved up one spot. Volkov stopped longtime UFC mainstay Stefan Struve in the main event of last Saturday’s UFC Rotterdam, sending “the Skyscraper” down a spot to No. 10.

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo hasn’t competed since suffering a third-round TKO loss to Max Holloway last June at UFC 212, but it looks as if he’s ready to get back in the Octagon.

In fact, Aldo has made it clear that he’d like to fight at UFC 217, which is set to take place on Nov. 4, 2017 in New York at Madison Square Garden:

“It’s a dream to fight (in New York), especially at Madison Square Garden,” Aldo told MMAFighting.com. “That’s a dream I have. I grew up watching boxers fighting there, so fighting at this arena is historical for me. I want to be on this (card).”

Aldo also said that he’d like to fight on the card regardless of who his opponent would be:

“Man, I want to fight, no matter who the opponent is,” said the Brazilian, who fought for the last time in June, losing to Max Holloway. “The sooner, the better. I wanted to fight twice more (this year) but it won’t happen, so at least one before the end the of the year and again in January. That’s what I want.”

A rematch between Aldo and Cub Swanson was discussed amongst the MMA community, although it doesn’t appear as if Swanson will be ready to fight in November:

“Cub said his wife is expecting a baby, if I’m not mistaken, so he doesn’t want to fight for now, so we don’t know anything,” Aldo said. “‘Dede’ is talking to [UFC matchmaker] Sean (Shelby) and I’ll sit down with him, but, for now, I don’t have a name. I have to talk to ‘Dede’ first.

“(Pederneiras) said he has good things (to say), so I want to see what happens.”

UFC 217 is set to be headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre. Bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt will also put his title on the line against bitter rival TJ Dillashaw.

Those predicting Jon Jones’ demise in MMA may have to wait a little.

According to Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting, the embattled UFC light heavyweight champion, who tested positive for anabolic steroid Turinabol the day before his UFC 214 knockout win over Daniel Cormier, reportedly passed a blood test from USADA in the hours after the event from Anaheim, California.

That means Jones tested negative one day after he failed the steroid on July 28, the day of weigh-ins for his bout versus Cormier. However, it has to be noted blood screenings do not test for Turinabol, begging the question as to exactly what USADA would be looking for if it was not anabolic steroids.

Jones also passed out-of-competition drug screens on July 6 and July 7, with negative results in a blood and urine screen on July 6 and the same for a urine screen on July 7. He reportedly passed seven drug tests leading up to his comeback as well.

Jones is awaiting full due process for his latest drug-related mishap, which occurred only weeks after a previous one-year suspension for testing positive for Clomiphene and Letrozol three days before his scheduled UFC 200 rematch with Cormier. He blamed a male sexual enhancement pill for the failed test but was suspended nonetheless.

Of course, it was only the most recent head-scratching instance of outside-the-cage trouble for Jones, whose laundry list of drug-related troubles have taken on a life of their own and need not be listed here in full yet again. Still, Jones’ team has encouraged his fans to let the full process play out, claiming that a tainted supplement was again the cause of Jones’ positive test.

It’s tough to give him any credit at the current moment based on his extreme propensity for screwing up unnecessarily while simultaneously being the most talented fighter the UFC has ever seen, but if we’ve learned anything about Jones’ seemingly endless mess-ups in the past, he can rebound from them like few mortals could.

The whole scene is strange, and the state athletic director where UFC 214 took place even admitted as much. Perhaps there’s something to Jones’ manager’s insistence.

We’ll keep you posted as always.
