Rose Namajunas Predicts Another Finish Of Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Ahead of their first fight, which took place at UFC 217 last November in New York City, it seemed as if then strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk was desperately trying to get into the head of Rose Namajunas.

That didn’t work, however, as Namajunas, not phased by Jedrzejczyk’s actions, ended up knocking out the Polish striker in the first round.

An in regards to the mind games, “Thug” Rose actually feels as if she’s been the one ‘freaking out’ Joanna Jedrzejczyk:

“I think that I took [that intimidation] away from [Jedrzejczyk] the minute she knew about me, even before the fight,” Namajunas told FloCombat. “I think she’s been psyching herself out just by the presence of myself, ever since I’ve been on the scene. I’ve just been freaking her out ever since I’ve been around. I don’t think that’s going to change with this fight.

“We’re constantly improving my game—my reactions, my reflexes, physically, and mentally. It seems like everything is perfect right now for me to be a dominant champion.”

After the loss, Jedrzejczyk cited a highly difficult weight cut as a reason for her poor performance, but ahead of their rematch, which is scheduled to take place at UFC 223 in Brooklyn, New York this weekend (April 7, 2018), Namajunas is only focused on herself:

“I think it’s important for all the losses I’ve had, I’ve always focused on what I could do better the next time,” Namajunas said. “It wasn’t [ever] about the other person. It’s the same thing with this fight. Whatever was going on with her, I can’t control that. All I can control is myself and make sure I’m the best version of myself just like last time—and I won, in dominant fashion.

“All the losses I’ve had, I’ve gained way more from it when I take full responsibility for what happened. So for me, it’s taught me to make sure that I’m doing everything that I can and it’s not going to be any different this time.”

And it’s safe to say that the reigning 115-pound titleholder is confident that she’ll once again beat Jedrzejczyk:

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Namajunas said. “All I know is I’m going to punch her in the face, take her back, and choke her out.”

Quote: Holloway Will “Lure” McGregor Back With Win At UFC 223

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has an opportunity to be a two-weight world champion -something only Conor McGregor has done thus far – should he get past Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 this weekend.

But with McGregor about to be stripped of his second belt on Saturday, Holloway hopes a win over Nurmagomedov could lure the Irishman back for a rematch, according to Holloway’s manager, Brian Butler-Au.

Butler-Au discussed the idea during this week’s edition of The MMA Hour, and appears optimistic that this rematch could happen should Holloway win the second of McGregor’s relinquished belts:

“It’s been a funny situation with Max. He’s not somebody that has ever — he’s never gone after Conor like everybody else. He’s always been very aware of the fact that he’s not going to give that to Conor. He’s going to earn his way and he’s going to make Conor come to him, and that’s the way he’s been playing. That’s why you’ve never seen Max go out there and just blatantly call out Conor.”

“Conor will throw out a jab at him and Max will come back with a one-two on social media, and in my opinion, just decimate any verbal sparring that they’ve done, but that’s about the most of it for Max. From there, he’s earning his position, just like he did when he earned the titles. He didn’t leapfrog over anybody to earn the title. He legitimately cleaned out the division. There’s really nobody left for him to fight now, except for Brian Ortega. Even that fight, had Brian not pulled out that amazing win over Frankie, a lot of people would’ve said that he wasn’t ready yet. So, I mean, Max, like I said, he’s done it the methodical way.”

Holloway lost to McGregor during the Irishman’s epic featherweight run back in 2013 by decision, being the only man to not be finished by McGregor in that weight class.

Since then, the two have taken diverging paths, with McGregor moving up in weight and eventually taking on boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, and Holloway winning the featherweight title.

Do you expect to see McGregor’s interest in a rematch with Holloway peak should the Hawaiian win the lightweight strap on Saturday?

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is looking to write her wrongs going into UFC 223.

It’s already been announced that Jedrzejczyk will fight current UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas in the co-main event of this upcoming pay-per-view event.

This marks the second time that Namajunas will take on Jedrzejczyk as they fought back in November at UFC 217 where Namajunas won with a first-round knockout.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour, the former champion went on record by admitting that suffering the loss put things into perspective in her life.

“I have a new challenge and I’m very happy,” Jedrzejczyk said during an in-studio appearance. “There is no pressure on me. I’m never nervous about fight week, big fights, because the hard work is done so many weeks, days before the fight.

I’m enjoying this, and I look at things differently. I used to say that I want to be undefeated, I wanted to retire undefeated. I don’t care about this anymore. I saw that I love my life more, and fighting is just part of my life. People wanted me to, like, be sad, cry, and hide after I lost. No.

“Guys, you have a job, I have a job to do. It’s part of my life. Soon I will stop fighting and I will do something else. I will be a mother, I will have some businesses, I will do some other stuff, and it’s just part of my life. I’m 100 percent in, but let’s not get crazy. That I lost, it’s not the end of the world. For other people it could be, but not for me.”

Jedrzejczyk vows to right her past mistakes at UFC 223, which is slated to take place on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“I don’t want to take anything from Rose, but this is what Mikey Brown said, a legend: It’s easy to win a short fight,” Jedrzejczyk said. “It’s nothing bad — people want to see KOs, submissions, short fights, explosive — but going through big wars, that’s the thing. What do you remember? My [favorite] fight is Robbie Lawler, Rory MacDonald. But that’s thing, I want to have a chance to show to people: I’m here for a reason, and I’m back for a reason.

“And I don’t know, I have so much respect for Rose, it’s going to be interesting if she can do this again, because I’m going to be 100 percent. She won the battle, but she’s not going to win the war. All the respect. Let’s have the best fight of this year, female fight of the year. What about this, Rose?”

The rivalry between team Khabib and team McGregor is still alive and well despite McGregor’s extended absence and Nurmagomedov’s upcoming title fight against Max Holloway.

Nurmagomedov crossed paths with McGregor’s friend and SBG teammate Artem Lobov and things got heated fast. The two exchanged words in Russian, with Nurmagomedov demanding Lobov keep his name out of his mouth, before walking up to “The Russian Hammer” and put his hands around his neck before appearing to lightly slap him across the face.

The two are both in Brooklyn for UFC 223, with Nurmagomedov facing off against UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway and Artem Lobov fighting Alex Caceres on the undercard.

The confrontation was broken up before things could get truly physical, but for now, it seems Nurmagomedov hasn’t forgotten about McGregor.
