Paul Felder regrets stepping on the scale during the UFC 230 weigh-ins for a goof.

That’s because the lightweight fighter tipped the scale at 193.6 pounds. That’s almost 40 pounds more than the lightweight limit of 156 pounds.

Felder obviously wasn’t in fight shape, he was at the UFC 230 weigh-ins because he would be calling the action the following night.

Not even a week after Felder tipped the scales in his UFC 230 joke he was booked in a lightweight fight against James Vick at UFC 233. The event takes place Jan. 26 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Therein lies the potential problem. That is the state of California. The commision is a very proactive commission on such issues as MMA weight cutting. Given that Felder only has three months to make the contracted weight of 156 pounds, that could be an issue.

Felder Weighs In On James Vick

“That was the first thing we addressed before I signed the contract,” Felder told MMAjunkie Radio. “I was talking to (Sean) Shelby and Jeff Novitzky and everybody just making sure the fight was going to take place if they give us a hard time.

“But one thing that made us all confident is at least my opponent is doing the same thing, if not worse. Coming into this, it’s not like I’m matched up with somebody who is going to be 25 pounds heavier than me in the cage on fight night. James Vick probably cuts even more weight than I have to.”

Sitting nearly 40 pounds over your contracted weight is never a good look. Felder, however, believes that number is a bit of a misrepresentation. Since fighting Mike Perry at UFC 226 in July Felder has been nursing a broken arm and traveling for UFC commentary gigs. All legitimate reasons for slightly skewed weight.

Keep in mind “The Irish Dragon” has never missed weight in his career. And Felder fully intends on keeping that streak alive and well at UFC 233.

“Obviously I’m going to try to be on top of my weight; I’m already on a diet,” Felder said. “When I stepped on that scale in New York, it was a joke, and I still had my sweatpants on and I was out eating the night before. I’m probably down five or six pounds lighter than what it said on that scale. It was the weekend, I was traveling. That’s not a true description of what I weigh.”

Daniel Cormier details a cool story of the reaction of his daughter to seeing Derrick Lewis in the moment of defeat.

Over the weekend at the UFC 230 pay-per-view event, Cormier was able to successfully retain his title over Lewis. This fight served as the main event of the show that went down at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City.

The UFC heavyweight champion went on record by telling MMAjunkie Radio co-host Brian “Goze” Garcia a cool story about his daughter. More specifically, her reaction to seeing a defeated Lewis after UFC 230.

“I think my kids love the fights. They love the excitement of the arena. They’ve been to the last three. They love that, but they also don’t love the other side. Like, my daughter doesn’t love the other side, man.”

Cormier continued by bringing up how his family was at the post-fight conference and waiting for him to take the stage. At this point, she noticed Lewis dealing with the loss at the show.

“She was in the press conference area waiting for me to go. Derrick went in there, and he was in the same area of my kids. And my wife said she saw him, looking over there, my little girl. Derrick was kind of standing there with his head down.”

The UFC heavyweight champ recalled how his family knows the ups and downs of the sport after he lost to Jon Jones at UFC 214. Thus, they knew what Lewis was dealing with.

“(My daughter) goes, ‘Mom.’ And my wife goes, ‘What?’ She goes, ‘I feel really bad for Derrick. He looks sad.’ So, like, they got to see the other side. And I don’t think my daughter likes that, man. She’s very sensitive. I don’t think they’ll be calling for Dad to even fight again. Because they also saw me on the other side when I lost to Jones. So they know the ups and downs of the fight game.”

Jacare Wasn’t Impressed With Israel Adesanya At UFC 230

Jacare was not impressed with “Style Bender’s” performance from Madison Square Garden.

Israel Adesanya turned a lot of heads over the weekend (Sat. November 3, 2018) at Madison Square Garden.

“Style Bender” made easy work of Derek Brunson to open up the UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV) card. The young striker established himself as a rising title contender at 185 pounds. However, he wasn’t the only middleweight who had a big night in New York.

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza also picked up an impressive victory of his own. The Brazilian knocked out Chris Weidman in the third round of their co-main event bout. Souza was likely down on the judges’ scorecards heading into the third round and was able to pick up the finish.

Many predict the next match-up to be made is a title eliminator between Souza and Adesanya. If that’s the case, Souza doesn’t seem to be too worried. Speaking to MMA Fighting recently, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion admitted he wasn’t impressed by Adesanya’s performance at UFC 230:

”He did a nice job. But what he did, I did better, and twice — and I’m not even a striker —, so what he’s saying makes no sense.

“He’s talking crap. Well, (Adesanya) is good, excellent, has a phenomenal future, is a phenomenal athlete, has a good game. But he didn’t impress me, no, because I did better than him. Twice.”

The winner of a potential Souza vs. Adesanya bout could take on the middleweight champion next. While a date has yet to be officially announced, current middleweight champion Robert Whittaker will defend his title against Kelvin Gastelum in the next few months.

It’s believed that fight will take place from Whittaker’s backyard of Melbourne, Australia on February 10, 2019, at UFC 234.
