Former UFC featherweight title challenger Ricardo Lamas suffered three jaw fractures after his knockout loss at UFC 238.

Lamas took to Instagram and updated fans on his status with a brief statement. “The Bully” noted he has been in the hospital since the defeat and had titanium plates installed into his jaw:

“Update: I suffered 3 fractures in my jaw during the fight. Been in the hospital since & had surgery yesterday. Titanium plates were installed. I asked the doctor to install small laser guns in my mouth that I could activate with my tongue and shoot through my teeth but he said that was impossible.”

Lamas was knocked out in the first round of his preliminary bout on ESPN against Calvin Kattar. The loss marked Lamas’ third out of his last four fights. At 37-years-old, it will be interesting to see what the 145-pound competitor decides to do next. As for Kattar, he is now on a two-fight win streak.

He hasn’t lost since being defeated by Renato Moicano back in April of 2018 via unanimous decision. Lamas redeemed himself with a first-round TKO victory over Chris Fishgold in October. Now, the 31-year-old hopes to continue his rise in the featherweight division after a victory over one of its most recognizable names.

Although being gone from the UFC, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson still has his eye on the promotion.

Johnson was watching when Henry Cejudo captured the bantamweight title by finishing Marlon Moraes in the fourth round of the UFC 238 pay-per-view (PPV) main event. Speaking on his Twitch account recently, Johnson said Cejudo did an “amazing job,” and said it’s time for the UFC to “start paying that man” (via MMA Mania):

“I thought Henry Cejudo did an amazing job,” Johnson said. “I hope they start paying that man. I look forward to seeing what he does next in his career. The thing I was most surprised about was Marlon Moraes gassing.

“I was shocked that he gassed. And Henry Cejudo took advantage and made it a dogfight. He came out the champion. Henry Cejudo, he’s ‘Triple C’, he’s the ‘champ champ champ’.”

Cejudo and Johnson have met twice inside the Octagon. Their first meeting took place back in April of 2016 when Johnson finished Cejudo in the first round. Johnson handed the former Olympic gold medalist the first defeat of his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career. However, Cejudo bounced back in their rematch later, pulling off a shock victory over “Mighty Mouse” at UFC 227 this past August.

Cejudo handed Johnson his first career loss at 125 pounds via split decision. That bout proved to be Johnson’s final under the UFC banner, as he was subsequently traded to ONE Championship. He had a successful promotional debut in March, submitting Yuya Wakamatsu in the second round at “ONE Championship: A New Era.” Now, Johnson is slated to return to the cage on August 2 against Tatsumitsu Wada at “ONE Championship: Dawn of Heroes.”

Aljamain Sterling is riding high after an extremely impressive performance in his latest outing under the UFC banner.

Sterling beat Pedro Munhoz in a bantamweight bout at the UFC 238 pay-per-view (PPV) event from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday night (June 8, 2019). Now, he thinks he’s in line for a title shot.

As a result of this win, the rising prospect extended his win streak to four straight inside the Octagon. Thus, now, he believes it’s his time to get in the main event spotlight to challenge UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion Henry Cejudo for the 135-pound title.

This also comes after Cejudo won the vacant bantamweight title with a TKO over Marlon Moraes. Sterling believes he has all the tools to dethrone “Triple C” and become the division’s new champion:

“I think I possess all the talent in the world to compete with Henry,” Sterling told Luke Thomas during an appearance on The MMA Hour. “Henry is a tough dude, man. I think he is the pound-for-pound greatest combat athlete today. No one has done what he’s been able to accomplish. But, I will say this, when I beat him, ‘Henry Cedoodo,’ what does that make me?

The pound-for-pound king. So that’s what I’m looking to get for my next title. So go out there, beat up Henry and I think I’ll be able to take that title. For some reason I always thought he’d have to defend his 135 title because he wouldn’t have to cut so much weight,” Sterling said. “But right now, I don’t there’s a clear number contender at 125. Maybe Joseph Benavidez?

They fought already and he has a win over Henry. Maybe Jussier Formiga? But those guys are fighting each other. So, depending on the results of that, it’s going to be decided on what’s the more intriguing matchup. Hopefully it’s me. Hopefully they have a boring fight. That’s what I’m hoping for. I’m hoping I did enough to impress the UFC brass.”

Time will tell whether Sterling gets what he wants, as Cejudo has options. He can defend the bantamweight title or flyweight title next – each division with a number of contenders ready for their opportunity. Or, perhaps he goes up to featherweight and tries to capture a third title, as he hinted at this past weekend.
