Johnny Walker has been the talk of the light heavyweight division for the past several months.

Walker has been laying waste to his opponents inside the Octagon rather quickly. He was recently sidelined due to an injury suffered inside the Octagon in his recent outing. However, the injury didn’t occur due to damage inflicted by his opponent, or damage he inflicted on himself while damaging his opponent.

Instead, Walker was injured while doing the worm as his post-fight celebration. Now that the young Brazilian has been medically cleared to return to the Octagon, he continues to hype an eventual clash with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Due to his early dominance, many have speculated that Walker could be the man to finally give “Bones” a run for his money inside the cage.

Speaking to MMA Fighting recently, Walker addressed Jones’ most recent performance inside the Octagon at UFC 239, where Jones just edged out Walker’s fellow countryman, Thiago Santos, via split decision. Walker said that, if Jones fights him the way he did Santos, he’s going to knock the 205-pound king out:

“I think he can do much better than that,” Walker said. “He definitely has to do more against me, otherwise I’ll knock him out in the first round. I think ‘Marreta’ was a great challenge.

“But ‘Marreta’ got hurt in the first round. Jones is the champion and would obviously win if it went to the scorecards, so I think he took his foot off the gas and the fight went the way you saw.”

Jones has been critical of the mixed martial arts (MMA) community for hyping a fight between himself and a virtually unknown fighter who hasn’t yet defeated a top-ranked opponent. He recently posted the following on Twitter:

“You guys want me to fight someone who is unknown to the general public and hasn’t even fought a top 10 opponent yet? Think about it. Besides if I beat him in December, what would everyone have to look forward to?”

Walker believes Jones is simply scared of getting beat by an unknown fighter, and how much such an occurrence would tarnish his legacy:

“Well, he’s right,” Walker said. “I still haven’t done much (in the UFC). But there aren’t many guys who would give me a big challenge. I don’t have to beat a top 5. People talk too much crap, man.

“People say I don’t have jiu-jitsu, I don’t have wrestling. They say I have to fight a wrestler. The last wrestler I fought lasted five seconds. I’m ready for him and I know I’d be a big challenge. I think he’s afraid to lose to an unknown guy.”

Do you think Walker is the man to finally defeat Jones inside of the Octagon?

Jorge Masvidal Trades Barbs With Ben Askren On Twitter Following UFC 239

Ben Askren wasn’t lying when he said he wouldn’t stop talking trash despite being knocked out by Jorge Masvidal in five seconds at UFC 239.

Askren recently took to Twitter to poke fun at his own knockout defeat, jokingly saying the following:

“If I can’t remember it that means it didn’t happen right???”

Masvidal decided to respond, dubbing Askren the GOAT of press conferences, as “Funky” talked a lot of trash to hype the fight prior to UFC 239:

“You’re also undefeated. [GOAT] of press conferences #supernecessary

Askren then responded, saying he’s now 2-1 against Masvidal:

“I’ll count that as 2-1 against you. You type this between bites at IHOP”

It will certainly be interesting to see what’s next for both men. Masvidal is now on a tear after having viciously knocked out both Darren Till and Askren. He could potentially face the winner of Colby Covington and Robbie Lawler, or jump right into a title fight with Kamaru Usman.

As for Askren, he’s coming off the first-ever loss of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. He plans to regroup and continue his path to winning the UFC welterweight title. Of course, that would mean potentially being matched up with Masvidal again, or even a fight against his good friend and teammate, ex-welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

What do you think about Masvidal and Askren still going back-and-forth on Twitter? Do you think they will fight again?

Jorge Masvidal and Michael Bisping have had their fair share of issues with one another in the past. However, it looks like that is now behind the two mixed martial artists.

Masvidal and Bisping got into a verbal confrontation prior to UFC 217 back in 2017. Things got so bad that Masvidal threatened to slap Bisping at UFC London earlier this year. However, Bisping – now retired from fighting and working as an analyst and commentator – was part of the panel that interviewed Masvidal in person after UFC 239.

Bisping stood right next to Masvidal during the interview, which went on without a hitch. Masvidal had just wrapped up pulling off the fastest knockout in UFC history, finishing Ben Askren with a flying knee in five seconds. Speaking on his podcast, “Believe You Me,” Bisping explained why he thinks the beef between himself and Masvidal is squashed (via BJPenn.com):

“He came up to the desk afterwards and Chael said to me, cause you had Jon Anik on the end, Chael in the middle, and me on the other end. And Chael’s like, ‘are you two guys cool?’ I’m like, ‘honestly I don’t think so. I’ve got no issue with him, but you know how he’s like. He’s a hothead for sure.’

“And so Chael said, ‘do you want to stand in the middle so that I’m on the end.’ I’m like, ‘Chael, the f*ck you think I am?’ Do you think I’m gonna b*tch out and say, ‘yeah switch positions because the bad man might get me.’ I’m like, ‘no.’”

Bisping then revealed he and Masvidal actually interacted prior to UFC London earlier this year, where he and Jorge were able to walk past each other without anything getting out of control:

“But listen, Jorge came up and he was cool as f*ck man. And I think he realized, cause when I saw him in London I walked past him. If I wanted to be an asshole there, I could’ve been an asshole.

“But I said, ‘hey what’s up Jorge?’ And he kind of nodded. I think that was, without saying squashing the beef type thing. But he was cool as hell man. He was cool as hell. I said congratulations, I said some kind words because how can you not?”

Do you think the beef between Bisping and Masvidal is finally at an end?

Robbie Lawler Defends Jorge Masvidal’s Post-KO Celebration Over Ben Askren

Jorge Masvidal took a lot of heat for his post-knockout celebration over Ben Askren. “Gamebred” recorded the fastest knockout in UFC history when he hit “Funky” with a flying knee to finish him in five seconds.

After the knockout, Masvidal yelled in an unconscious Askren’s face, and mimicked his body falling to the canvas. Masvidal also took criticism for hitting Askren in the face a few times before the referee stepped in, as Askren was clearly out cold before the punches were thrown.

However, former UFC welterweight champion and ex-Masvidal training partner, Robbie Lawler, sees nothing wrong with the actions. Speaking on “Ebro In The Morning,” Lawler defended his former American Top Team teammate’s post-fight celebration (via The Body Lock MMA):

“I know Askren runs his mouth and when you run your mouth, stuff like this happens,” Lawler said. “When someone is running their mouth, then you gotta fight. I’m an old school guy where I don’t think Masvidal did anything wrong.

“He was celebrating, he handled himself as a professional. If you don’t want somebody to dance on top of you, you don’t get beat up, you don’t run your mouth.”

Lawler will be facing another former training partner, Colby Covington, in the main event of UFC Newark this summer. Should he get past “Chaos,” Lawler and Masvidal could be matched up next.

What did you think of Masvidal’s post-knockout celebration over Askren? Did “Gamebred” go too far?

Jorge Masvidal is getting a ton of attention after destroying Ben Askren at UFC 239 this past weekend (Sat. July 6, 2019).

“Gamebred” put Askren away with a flying knee in five seconds as “Funky” shot in on an immediate takedown. It officially went down as the fastest knockout in UFC history. Recently, Masvidal took to Twitter to shout out former WWE star and current Hollywood star The Rock, asking him if he smelled the three-piece at UFC 239.

The Rock actually responded to Masvidal, praising his fellow Miami native with the following:

“You know I did brother. You served em cold and violent – the necessary way. Big luv. #miami #AndNew

Masvidal has capitalized well off the record-setting knockout. He recently took to “The Dan LeBatard Showto call out Conor McGregor. There’s also the possibility that Masvidal challenges UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for the title next.

If that fight doesn’t materialize, fights with the likes of Tyron Woodley or the winner of Colby Covington vs. Robbie Lawler are also options. However, should Covington emerge victorious, that would mean “Gamebred” has to fight one of his best friends and teammates. It will certainly be interesting to see what’s next for the former street fighter.

What do you think about The Rock’s praise for Masvidal?
