At UFC 244, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will meet at 170 pounds in the pay-per-view’s (PPV) main event. The winner will be awarded the one-off Baddest Mother F*cker Championship, which will be wrapped around their waist by none other than WWE legend and Hollywood megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

However, with the addition of the BMF Title to the mix, some within the mixed martial arts (MMA) community have been hating on the gimmick belt. Names such as Miesha Tate, Kamaru Usman, Kevin Lee, Conor McGregor, and more have all thrown shade at the belt. Diaz and Masvidal have both gone off on BMF Title critics before, but it seems recent comments from those who spoke at this week’s Dominance MMA Management media day have Diaz fired up.

He took to Twitter to issue out a cryptic message, seemingly responding to those still criticizing the BMF Title.

Diaz followed that up with a Tweet that has since been deleted.

“1 big group.”

Diaz and Masvidal will meet inside Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 2. Masvidal has had a tremendous year, knocking out both of his opponents in Darren Till and Ben Askren in vicious fashion, the latter of which being the fastest knockout in UFC history with five seconds.

As for Diaz, he ended a three-year layoff against Anthony Pettis in August, defeating the ex-lightweight champion via unanimous decision. Now he looks to get past Masvidal, a victory that would almost certainly put him in the 155-pound title conversation.

What do you think about Diaz’s recent cryptic Tweet?

UFC 243 this past Saturday was the biggest event in Australasian history — however, the prelims on ESPN 2 didn’t do so well.

According to MMA Fighting, 559,000 viewers turned into to see the prelims which took place prior to the main card. The peak number was 693,000 which was during the Callan Potter vs. Maki Pitolo fight. The 559,000 number is notably the lowest primetime prelim number of the year.

Part of that is because it was on ESPN 2 for the first time rather than ESPN. Instead, ESPN featured the Georgia vs. Tennessee football game which notably drew 3,901,000 viewers.

Another factor was the heavy sports competition which usually increases in the month of October. There were more football games, a Major League Baseball playoffs game as well as a preseason NBA game with the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, as MMA Fighting notes, the prelims were a success for ESPN 2 as it finished seventh in its timeslot in the 18-49 demographic. It was also ESPN 2’s highest rated show in the last two weeks not only in the 18-49 demorgaphic, but also 25-54 and 18-49 and 25-54 for men specifically.

What do you think of UFC 243’s prelim numbers?

Things didn’t go according to plan for Robert Whittaker at UFC 243 over the weekend. Whittaker put his undisputed UFC middleweight title up for grabs against Israel Adesanya’s interim title.

The pair headlined the biggest fight in Australian history, and the highest-attended fight in UFC history. However, it was clearly Adesanya’s night, who outclassed Whittaker on the feet, knocking him out in the second round to put a bow on a masterful performance. It marked Whittaker’s first defeat at 185 pounds and the beginning of Adesanya’s reign as champion.

Taking to Instagram, longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan praised Whittaker for his handling of the loss. Rogan called Whittaker a “master class in humility and composure.” Here’s what he had to say.

“This is a master class in humility and composure. @robwhittakermma put it all on the line and came up short, but his response to the loss shows what kind of a man he is. Still absolutely one of the best fighters on earth, and handled the loss as well as anyone ever has. RESPECT!”

As for what’s next for the champion, Adesanya is likely to make his first title defense against Paulo Costa, who was in attendance for the show. A possible superfight with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has also been discussed as a possibility.

What did you make of Whittaker’s handling of his loss to Adesanya this past weekend?
