Jon Jones has finally said something about Israel Adesanya becoming the middleweight champion.

Adesanya, of course, TKO’d Robert Whittaker in the second round to become the undisputed champion. However, to some people’s surprise, he called out Paulo Costa, not Jon Jones-like many expected. Especially given how much the two of them said to each other leading up to the fight.

“By the time this kid gets his confidence together I’ll probably already be in the heavyweight division. I don’t need to wait till 2021 to start believing in myself,” Jon Jones said.

Of course, the light heavyweight champion is referencing Adesanya’s comments saying he will fight Jones in 2021.

“(Jon Jones) is definitely a boss in that game I want to play against,” Adesanya told The Mac Life. “Raiders Stadium, in Las Vegas, that’s were it’s going to happen. I decided in July, when I was in Vegas.

“The middleweight division is getting stacked right now. Costa, I got to take care of, and a few others. I’m saying 2021… probably early.”

The beef between the two fighters seems real that a fight could very well happen. Jon Jones would no doubt have the size advantage, but Israel Adesanya is confidence in his speed and striking that he could defeat the light heavyweight champion.

Whether or not they actually ever fight will be determined. Both fighters have called for it and UFC president Dana White has seemed interested in it, as well. The only thing going against Adesanya is the timeframe as Jones does not want to wait until 2021 as he says he will be a heavyweight by then.

Do you think we will ever see Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya fight?

It was a big night of fights from Australia last night (Sat. October 5, 2019). While Israel Adesanya certainly stole the night with his finish over Robert Whittaker, Dan Hooker also made quite the statement in the UFC 243 co-main event.

Hooker pretty much outclassed Al Iaquinta for three rounds before taking the opportunity to call out recent 155-pound title challenger Dustin Poirier in his post-fight interview with Jon Anik.

“Dustin Poirier, I’m going to smash your face in,” he said in his post-fight interview. “Meet me in New Zealand. 2020. And I’m going to end you!”

This led to a response from Poirier on Twitter, who said he’s focused on landing a fight with Conor McGregor instead. Poirier suggested Hooker fight Donald Cerrone instead, because he’s waiting for something that excites him. Apparently, “Hangman” doesn’t fit that description.

When made aware of Poirier’s response during his post-fight press conference, Hooker said Poirier is “chasing leprechauns” with his aspirations of fighting McGregor.

“He’s gonna fight – he’s gonna fight who?” Hooker asked. “He wants to sit around chasing leprechauns that’s his own problem. He wants a real fight – he wants a real fighter that will take it, he knows where to find me.”

Hooker continued his campaign for a fight with Poirier on Twitter.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan was one of several mixed martial arts (MMA) fans watching UFC 243 last night (Sat. October 5, 2019). In the main event of the evening, Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya clashed to unify their 185-pound titles.

However, it was the Adesanya show from start to finish. “Stylebender” knocked Whittaker down with a massive uppercut to end the first round. Had the horn not sounded almost as soon as he hit the canvas, the fight very well could’ve been finished there. Of course, Adesanya didn’t stop there, as he came into round two to finish the job. After a nasty countershot, Adesanya put Whittaker away for good.

The MMA community went nuts for the finish, including Rogan, who wrote the following on Instagram after the contest.

“THE F*CKING MAN!! Congrats to the last @stylebender for the performance of a lifetime!!”

Adesanya is now likely to have his first title defense against Paulo Costa, who was in attendance for last night’s event. However, there’s still a possibility that Adesanya lands a superfight with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The pair have been beefing with one another on social media for the past several months, and now that Adesanya is a champion, the fight could very well happen.

What did you make of Rogan’s reaction to Adesanya’s KO win over Whittaker?
