Kevin Lee will look to build a winning run this weekend.

Lee takes on the always dangerous Charles Oliveira in the UFC Brasilia headliner on Saturday. In Oliveira, “The Motown Phenom” takes on a jiu-jitsu black belt with top-tier striking and a six-fight winning streak on enemy territory.

But with more risk comes more reward as victory could put him right back into lightweight title contention. Lee is no stranger to taking risky fights, after all.

Following a two-fight losing streak, Lee returned to the lightweight division in November when he took on previously undefeated wrestler Gregor Gillespie at UFC 244.

Lee, himself, said it was the “dumbest fight” he could have taken.

“To be honest with you, this is the dumbest fight I could’ve took,” Lee said. “A guy who’s incredibly tough, he can take a hell of a shot, he can keep coming forward, and he can make a fight really boring, he can make it really frustrating for you.

“And he’s got a hell of a gas tank, too. So, this is the most dangerous fight I could’ve took. It really don’t make much sense, but I love a challenge, I love doing sh*t like this.”

However, under the tutelage of Firas Zahabi at Tristar Gym, Lee was able to pull off one of the most devastating head kick knockouts in UFC history.

The Detroit native also made a statement to the rest of the division in the process.

Conor McGregor was one of many fans who thought the ending to the BMF Title fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz at UFC 244 this past November was a huge disappointment.

After Masvidal dominated the first three rounds of the fight, cutting Diaz up badly, the doctor stepped in and decided to wave the action off. However, many spectators didn’t think the cut was bad enough to warrant stopping the contest. Speaking in a recent interview with The MacLife, McGregor said fans were “robbed” of the rest of the fight with the controversial doctor’s stoppage. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I wasn’t really that happy with how that BMF thing ended. I think it’s unfinished, in my opinion, that belt is unfinished. It was only getting into a good bout, I believe. We were robbed of rounds four and five in that bout,” McGregor said.

McGregor will make his own return to action on January 18 when he faces Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV). The fight takes place at 170 pounds, a division McGregor now has championship aspirations for.

Do you agree with McGregor and think fans were robbed from the Masvidal vs. Niaz BMF Title fight?

Edmen Shahbazyan is making waves in the UFC at the moment. Shahbazyan is on a three-fight streak in which all of his wins have come by way of a first-round finish. In his latest outing, Shahbazyan bested Brad Tavares with a head kick at UFC 244.

The finish actually caught the attention of UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Speaking on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Adesanya said he expects to see the 22-year-old standing opposite him inside the Octagon down the road. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“I saw his fight,” Adesanya said. “I didn’t know who he was until (my manager) told me. Then I rewatched his fight. He hit Brad Tavares with the head kick and that kind of got my attention, like, ‘Oh (expletive), who is this kid?’ At 185, he’s 22. He’s on the come-up. I played with Brad for five rounds. He starched him in one round. I’m not taking that lightly.”

Adesanya fought Tavares back in July of 2018. While Adesanya didn’t get the finish over Tavares, he did win in dominant fashion with a lopsided unanimous decision after five rounds. To see Shahbazyan get the job done in one round, Adesanya recognizes the young man is on the come up.

“I look at that kid – eventually when he comes up I’m sure I’ll see him at some point,” Adesanya said. “I need to get back to work. I’m working, but I’ve got the FOMO.”

Do you think Shahbazyan will meet Adesanya inside the Octagon down the road?

Canelo Alvarez Won’t Allow DAZN To Delay His Fights Anymore

Canelo Alvarez won’t allow DAZN to delay his fights moving forward. The boxing community was rather humiliated when DAZN announced they wouldn’t start the Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev fight earlier this month until the UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) – headlined by Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz for the Baddest Mother F*cker Championship – concluded. Canelo Alvarez won’t allow DAZN to delay his fights moving forward. The boxing community was rather humiliated when DAZN announced they wouldn’t start the Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev fight earlier this month until the UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) – headlined by Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz for the Baddest Mother F*cker Championship – concluded.

In fact, the delay resulted in an over hour delay between the boxing show’s co-main event, and the main event. The venue actually called UFC president Dana White to see if they could get his permission to show the UFC 244 fight between Masvidal and Diaz to their waiting crowd as they waited for Alvarez vs. Kovalev to begin. White agreed.

Speaking to ESPN Deportes, Alvarez didn’t sound too happy with the move and noted he won’t allow the streaming service, who he signed a record multi-fight deal with last year, to do that again. (H/T Boxing Scene)

“I will not allow them to do that, at least for my fights. I will talk to them [DAZN], ” Canelo said.

Given that Alvarez and Masvidal, who defeated Diaz due to a third-round Doctor Stoppage, had their names linked that night, “Gamebred” took the opportunity to call the Mexican boxing star out, saying he wanted to “destroy” Alvarez. However, responding to Masvidal’s comments, Alvarez sounds to have virtually no interest in that fight.

What do you think about Alvarez refusing to allow DAZN to delay his fights moving forward?

Gregor Gillespie is no longer undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) run.

Gillespie met Kevin Lee on the main card of the UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) card from Madison Square Garden in New York City earlier this month. However, Gillespie was knocked out in the first round after eating a hellacious head kick from Lee. Despite this setback, Gillespie wants to get back into the Octagon against another top 10-ranked opponent.

Speaking on “The Anik and Florian Podcast,” Gillespie noted he doesn’t think the loss reflects that he doesn’t still belong in the top 10. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“I want another top-10 guy, I’ll say that,” Gillespie said. “Obviously I don’t think that loss is an indication that I don’t belong in the top 10. I think it’s one of those things that happens. I want to absolutely state this.

“I am not saying I got caught or Kevin Lee got lucky. There’s absolutely nothing lucky about what he did. I will give him all the credit in the world. It was a perfectly placed, a perfectly timed, perfectly executed kick, and that’s what every fighter hopes they can do in a fight.”

Gillespie said he hasn’t experienced losing since his wrestling days in 2011. With the loss, he wants to get right back on the horse and redeem himself with another fight as soon as his medical suspension is lifted.

“I feel like I really need to get back in there and redeem myself, sometime in the spring,” Gillespie said. “I think as far as I know at this point, I’m still on medical suspension, so I’m sure they want me to wait a little bit as far as that goes.”

What do you think about Gillespie saying he wants another top 10 opponent next?
