Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz’s highly-anticipated clash at UFC 244 didn’t end in the most thrilling fashion.

After a great buildup, and a great three rounds of action between the pair, the cageside physician opted to stop the fight due to the cuts surrounding Diaz’s eye. Fans were enraged with the decision, with some believing the cuts weren’t bad enough to warrant stopping the fight. As soon as the event came to a close, many called to see the rematch, including both Masvidal and Diaz themselves. Masvidal stated he thinks the rematch will happen, even if not immediately, he and the younger Diaz brother will run things back eventually.

Speaking to LowKickMMA, American Top Team (ATT) owner Dan Lambert expressed the same opinion. When asked about Diaz’s post-fight Instagram post, suggesting Masvidal, at one point, wanted out of the fight, Lambert denied any assumptions that the post was Diaz being disrespectful, but rather, venting his frustrations after feeling he was cheated out of the last two rounds of the fight.

“Man, I have a hard time calling Nate Diaz disrespectful,” Lambert said. “Nate Diaz is just Nate Diaz. He’s just his own character and that’s probably just the way he is in every aspect of his life. I think he felt cheated by not being able to come out for the next round. Like I said, I thought it was actually Jorge who got cheated out of being able to finish the fight.

“But at the end of the fight it sure sounded like fans wanted to see a rematch. If that paid the most money to Jorge over a title fight, or maybe a fight with Conor, I’m sure Jorge would be happy to do it. I’d probably be surprised if those two didn’t fight again at some point in the future. Maybe not next, but I’d be surprised if those guys did not fight again.”

Now, however, Masvidal seems to have rubbed older Diaz brother, Nick, the wrong way. There has been a lot of hype surrounding a potential fight between the pair next, as Nick looks to avenge his younger brother’s defeat. Regardless of what’s next for Masvidal, however, one thing is for certain – he’ll flock to whatever fight presents him with the biggest paycheck.

Do you think Masvidal and Diaz will rematch down the road?

A lot has been made of the doctor stoppage call heading into the championship rounds of the UFC 244 main event between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz.

The pair went head-to-head for the Baddest Mother F*cker Championship. Masvidal seemingly dominated the fight from start to finish, dropping and stunning the younger Diaz brother several times. However, with two nasty cuts around the eye of Diaz heading into the fourth round, the doctor opted to stop the fight given their severity.

Both Masvidal and Diaz expressed disappointment with how the fight ended, but “Gamebred” was rightfully declared the winner nonetheless. Diaz complained after the fight that the stoppage was unjust, feeling robbed of the opportunity to come back strong in the championship rounds – which he claimed had been his gameplan all along as he was dealing with an injury coming into the fight.

Speaking to LowKickMMA, American Top Team (ATT) owner Dan Lambert stated he believes it was Masvidal who was truly robbed by the stoppage, as he had the likely possibility of finishing the fight taken away from him.

“I mean, as a fan, I would’ve liked to have seen it go longer just like anybody would have. I think Jorge is the one who got robbed on that stoppage, because I think it stopped Jorge from getting the opportunity from getting the finish,” Lambert said.

“Jorge wanted to finish the fight. I know Nate is a beast and he wasn’t ever going to quit, but I don’t think that fight was turning anytime soon in a fourth or fifth, sixth or seventh, or 90th round. I think Jorge was going to keep doing what Jorge did until that fight was over.”

With the victory, Masvidal was declared the winner of the one-off Baddest Mother F*cker Championship. It was a move by the UFC that was both criticized and praised by the MMA community, as UFC president Dana White and company went as far as making a physical belt for the occasion. Lambert, being a hardcore professional wrestling fan, was a supporter of the move.

“You know, you might be asking someone who is biased on this. I’m a hardcore wrestling fan,” Lambert said. “I thought it was the coolest idea. I thought it was really really cool. Man, I mean, Dana knows what he’s doing when it comes to promoting fights.

“And they love running big shows with title fights on top, Madison Square Garden with a title on top in November is always a big show, so when those two were the desired matchup, no it didn’t surprise me, because it adds a little more intrigue, it adds a little more promotion to the fight, and it was just a really cool idea.”

The Rock

There are a plethora of options for Masvidal next. Talk of a fight with older Diaz brother Nick have surfaced, a potential fight with Conor McGregor down the line has been teased, and the Floridian has even expressed an interest in boxing multi-weight world champion Canelo Alvarez. Whatever Masvidal decides to do next, Lambert believes it will be for the biggest paycheck available.

“You know, I think if Jorge were 10 years younger, he’d probably be looking for a title fight next,” Lambert said. “I think at this stage in Jorge’s life and his career I think Jorge wants whatever makes him the most money. So I think Jorge is going to have to wait and see what his options are.

“If Jorge had the opportunity to wait and fight a Conor McGregor, or if some of this talk gets legitimized about a potential boxing match with Canelo, and Jorge has the opportunity to go make that kind of money, I would strongly encourage Jorge to go grab that money. Because, you know, business, you never know what’s going to happen or when it’s going to happen. You got to grab it when you can.”

What do you think will ultimately be Masvidal’s next move?

There’s good news for “Wonderboy” fans as Stephen Thompson won’t require surgery following his last outing.

Thompson returned to winning ways with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Vicente Luque on the main card of UFC 244 earlier this month.

However, it came at a cost as he revealed afterward that he had broken not one but both of his hands during the fight. While one would assume “Wonderboy” would require surgery, that is not the case as he expects to recover in six to eight weeks.

“Hands are doing OK,” Thompson wrote in a text message to MMA Fighting. “Still hurting. but they’ll be all right.”

It’s not the first time the South Carolina native has suffered damage to his hands. Against Jorge Masvidal in 2017, he broke both of his thumbs during the fight. Like he did against Luque, though, Thompson managed to get the win on that occasion.

An early 2020 return looks to be on the cards as Thompson very much remains a top contender in the welterweight picture. The former two-time title challenger is currently ranked No. 8 in the UFC rankings.

He will no doubt want a higher-ranked opponent upon his return.

Who do you want to see Thompson face next?

Michael Bisping Calls Out Nate Diaz Over UFC 244 Excuses

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping calls bullsh*t on Nate Diaz’s excuse for his loss to Jorge Masvidal.

Diaz and Masvidal met in the UFC 244 headliner earlier this month in a contest that was largely dominated by the latter. Before the start of the fourth round, the ringside doctor called an end to the fight due to a cut near Diaz’s eye.

Despite the cuts and being bloodied, Diaz wanted to continue and later claimed his game plan would have come into effect in the championship rounds.

However, Bisping isn’t buying any of that, especially given the nature of how Diaz’s fight with Masvidal went:

“Let me tell you this and let me ask you a question,” Bisping said on his podcast (via BJ Penn). “This is a statement and a question, let me know what you think. You go out there you say, ‘I’m gonna fight.’ You think, ‘I know I’m gonna develop a game plan where I’m gonna conserve my energy. I’m gonna turn it on in the later rounds.’ Well you go out there and this guy is coming at you like a madman, and he’s beating the f*ck out of you. He’s dropping you to the floor. He’s making a mockery out of you in front of the entire world by beating the sh*t out of you.

“Let me tell you when somebody’s beating the sh*t out of you and you’re a world-class fighter you don’t go, ‘no it’s good. It’s good, I’m waiting until the later rounds.’ You fight back because that’s what we are. Inherently, we’re fighters. You’re f*cking coming at me, you’re dropping me, you’re beating the sh*t out of me. Beating me so bad to a point where the referee’s calling in doctors and they’re looking at this like they might potentially stop the fight. You don’t go, ‘Nah man I’m gonna wait for another two rounds and then turn it on.’ No, you start fighting right then and there.

“Once again to quote the great Mike Tyson, ‘Everybody has a game plan until you get punched in the face,’ or punched in the face repeatedly, dropped to the floor and nearly knocked out on multiple occasions. Yeah f*ck that, that’s bullsh*t.”

There is a general belief among some fans that Diaz would have had an edge in the championship rounds. After all, he has some of the best endurance and cardio in the promotion. But then again, so does Masvidal who was already up three rounds.

Do you agree with Bisping?
