Deiveson Figueiredo is demanding an opportunity to regain his flyweight crown.

Figueiredo and current flyweight champion Brandon Moreno have engaged in a pair of title fights over the past year. Their first meeting at UFC 256 produced a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate that was ultimately ruled a draw. In the immediate rematch, Moreno prevailed on top, scoring a submission victory in the third round.

Seemingly since the moment he lost his belt, Figueiredo has been calling for the chance to earn it back. However, Moreno has been less than intrigued by the idea, preferring to give the opportunity to a new contender.

In a recent interview, Figueiredo called out his rival for not affording him a chance at a rematch (H/T MMA Fighting).

“He’s a p—-,” Figueiredo said. “Brandon Moreno is a p—- because I was sick when I fought and beat him, and I gave him the rematch right away. I won that fight. They took a point away from me, he pretended to be hurt, he faked an eye poke so they would take points from me, but I still won. And now he doesn’t want to give me a rematch? He’s a p—-.”

“I expected more from him, I expected him to act like a man. What I want the most is this trilogy with him, to fight him again. I hope he’s man enough to give me that rematch.”

Though Moreno may want to face a new opponent, the fact remains that there aren’t many names in title contention. Askar Askarov, who Moreno battled to a draw in his return to the UFC, is expected to be on the shelf for the remainder of the year. Former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is dropping down a weight class, but he has already been scheduled against Kai Kara-France. The fact is, Figueiredo may be most worthy of the shot.

We’ll have to wait and see what the UFC ultimately decides. If they do decide to go ahead with the trilogy, the war of words leading up to the fight should be worth the price of admission alone.

Do you think Deiveson Figueiredo should get the trilogy fight he is calling for? Let us know!

Deiveson Figueiredo believes he did more than enough to defeat Brandon Moreno.

The pair fought to a majority draw in their UFC 256 flyweight title headliner earlier this month in what was arguably one of the greatest fights in promotional history.

Figueiredo was dominant for the most part as he landed a number of power shots but Moreno had plenty of good moments himself. The fact that Figueiredo was deducted a point for an accidental groin kick also helped Moreno eventually avoid defeat on the scorecards.

That said, “Deus da Guerra” believes he should have won even with the point deduction. That’s because he believes he won every round.

“Analyzing every round, I won all rounds,” Figueiredo told MMA Fighting. “Unfortunately, I don’t know what happened for them not to give me the [win]. There was that point deduction, but even with a draw in that round I still won all rounds. Now I’ll go back for this rematch and break Moreno so there is no doubt anymore.

“… I didn’t give him one single round. I walked forward the entire time, attacking Moreno. I had an immediate answer for every attack he gave. To me, in my concept, I won all five rounds.”

A stomach infection the night before the fight didn’t help matters for Figueiredo as it made the bout “the hardest fight” of his career.

However, with the UFC’s plans for a rematch in 2021, the Brazilian is hoping to leave no doubt this time.

“I want this rematch so it leaves no doubt,” Figueiredo added. “I want to be well and show my work. That guy that fought Moreno, that wasn’t me. He can be sure of that. I’ll train hard for him now and it will be a completely different fight.”

Who do you see winning the rematch?

Michael Bisping: Tony Ferguson Didn’t Look The Same But Won’t Admit It

Tony Ferguson

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping believes Tony Ferguson isn’t the same fighter anymore.

Ferguson suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Charles Oliveira at UFC 256 earlier this month after getting dominated over three rounds. That made it two losses in a row for the former interim champion who suffered his first setback since 2012 earlier this year following a fifth-round TKO defeat to Justin Gaethje.

While it could be a case of Ferguson simply losing to two of the best lightweights in the world, many observers believe he is showing signs of decline.

Bisping seemingly agrees.

“…He didn’t look the same,” Bisping said on his podcast (via MMA News). “He didn’t have any good moments. And I just feel because of the amount of damage over the years, now we’re starting to see a decline in what he can do in the Octagon.”

Ferguson certainly took a lot of damage in the Gaethje fight and even acknowledged it later on. That said, Bisping doesn’t expect him to just stop fighting because of all the cumulative damage he has absorbed over the years.

Instead, he believes Ferguson needs someone to step in and advise him against competing further.

“If we know Tony Ferguson, he’s not the type of guy to sit around and say, ‘Oh, no, no, no, I’m done. I’ve taken too much damage.’ No, he’s gonna say the opposite,” Bisping added. “He’s gonna say, ‘No, I’m fine. I got beaten. Maybe there was some mistakes in camp’ or whatever. Tony’s not going to accept that he’s on the decline.

“That’s what fighters do. Fighters never accept that. Fighters need somebody else, a third party to step in: a manager, a loved one, a wife, a coach, a friend, president of the UFC…who knows, we’ve seen that happen many times…to step in and say, ‘Tony, Tony, Tony, you’ve taken a lot of damage these days.’”

It’s certainly a bit harsh to assume Ferguson is completely finished at the highest level. After all, he deserves credit for not being stopped by Oliveira despite fighting the majority of the fight with his left arm compromised.

However, should Ferguson lose again and take considerable damage doing so, it might be time to consider hanging up the gloves.

Do you agree with Bisping?
