Francis Ngannou believes Herb Dean deserved a performance of the night for his stoppage of the Stipe Miocic rematch.

Ngannou became the new heavyweight champion last month after an impressive second-round knockout of Miocic in their UFC 260 headliner.

After knocking Miocic down in the second round, Ngannou appeared to be stunned briefly by a Miocic counter-punch. As Miocic advanced forward, he was caught by Ngannou’s own counter-punch as a left from “The Predator” put the former champion’s lights out instantly.

However, Ngannou didn’t feel like he hurt Miocic.

“I didn’t feel like I hurt him,” Ngannou said in a recent appearance on Mike Tyson’s podcast (via Middle Easy). “I was like ‘Why are you falling?’ I (threw the punch) just to counter and he went down and I’m like ‘Okay, what? I don’t know what happened but I have to follow to secure the win.’”

The rest is history as Ngannou landed a hammerfist before Dean stopped the action. Many observers notably criticized Dean for being too far away from the action — especially considering Ngannou’s power — as the veteran referee has come under fire regularly in recent months.

However, Ngannou believes Dean did a good job all things considered.

“No, honestly I watched this fight and I saw Herb Dean’s action and I think it should be the performance of the night,” Ngannou added. “Did you see how fast he ran? He was moving backwards, and then after the action you see how fast he moved in?

“The guy was on notice. He knew that if Francis touch him, don’t let (Francis) touch him again.”

Of course, Ngannou did end up touching Miocic again and Dean shouldn’t have needed to run that fast in the first place if he was closer to the action.

Things don’t look good for Tyron Woodley and his UFC future.

Woodley suffered a first-round submission defeat to Vicente Luque in the co-main event of UFC 260 last night at the Apex facility in Las Vegas. Woodley was wobbled repeatedly by Luque before he was eventually dropped and tapped to a D’arce choke by the Brazilian.

It put the former welterweight champion at four consecutive losses after previous setbacks against Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns and Colby Covington.

So what’s next for “The Chosen One”? It doesn’t look like much as far as the UFC is concerned as White hinted Woodley should consider retirement.

“How old’s Tyron now? 39? 39,” White said at the post-fight press conference. “That’s four in a row…yeah.”

Compared to previous losses, however, Woodley certainly gave it a go against Luque.

He started out aggressive and even managed to hurt Luque momentarily. In the end, it didn’t matter but White did give some credit to Woodley for his performance.

“Woodley, who takes a lot of criticism – that kid came to fight tonight,” White added. “He went out on his shield tonight. He came in to fight.”

You can check out Woodley’s post-fight statement here.

Do you think Woodley has a UFC future still?

Stipe Miocic didn’t suffer any major damage last night.

Miocic lost his heavyweight title after he was brutally knocked out by Francis Ngannou in the UFC 260 headliner. Miocic not only landed awkwardly on his leg, but also received a follow-up shot as he was out cold with referee Herb Dean taking too long to separate Ngannou in time.

Unsurprisingly, Miocic didn’t stick round for any post-fight interviews or press conferences as he was transported to the hospital after the event.

And he seems to be in positive spirits as his wife Ryan revealed that he was okay in an Instagram update with a photo of the pair.

“He’s alright, still my hero!” she wrote.

That’s certainly great to hear for Miocic who suffered just the third knockout loss of his career.

And while he didn’t suffer any other major damage, it is probably best that he sits on the sidelines and takes as much time to rest and recuperate.

What do you think Miocic should do next?

Fans across Africa celebrated Francis Ngannou becoming the new UFC heavyweight champion — especially in his hometown in Cameroon.

Ngannou emerged victorious over Stipe Miocic with a second-round knockout victory in the UFC 260 headliner last night at the Apex facility in Las Vegas.

In doing so, Ngannou not only became the heavyweight champion in his second attempt, but also just the third African-born fighter to become a UFC title-holder.

That is most certainly a big deal for the continent of Africa with talks of a UFC event taking place there likely to increase even further.

For now, the continent can celebrate but probably not as much as fans in Ngannou’s hometown of Batie, Cameroon, did.

You can watch it below:

With Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya also being African-born champions, now is certainly the ideal time for a UFC Africa event. Perhaps before the end of the year if the ongoing pandemic eases up?

What do you think of Ngannou being the latest African-born champion?
