The fight card for UFC 219 features a fight from the women’s featherweight division that most fans are highly anticipating. Traditionally, it is easy to see that the women’s MMA has never really been something that the UFC has placed much emphasis over, at least not as much as what is given to the men’s fights. This was especially evident in the fact that the weren’t really giving much thought to the fixtures either and often pitted fighters against each other that were really worlds apart in terms of quality, experience, etc. New comers that were still green behind the ears were put up against the likes of champions. However, in case of Holly Holm and Cris Cyborh, this uncompetitive pattern was broken. Both fighters were already renowned prior to entering the UFC and they were both confident about being able to take on and beat Ronda Rousey who was the holy grail of women’s fighting at the time.
After a chain of events that nobody could have predicted, the time has come for these women to face against each other as the headline women’s fight in UFC 219. They have contrasting fighting styles, Cyborg has great range with her punches and several knockouts to her name, while Holm is more of a patient fighter that strikes on the counter and is also very good at dodging strikes effectively.
In terms of predictions, this is going to be a close one to call. In out books, Cyborg will take victory if she is able to connect. We are going to go with a TKO victory to Cyborg.

UFC Fight Night 217 – Joanna Jedrzejczyk Vs. Rose Namajunas

Jedrzejczyk is the UFC woman in the limelight right now, she is soaring at the moment and looks close to unstoppable. She can find her way out of any take down and her striking has improved several folds. It is extremely difficult to handle her from near or afar. Not only has she been able to successfully fend off challengers and defend her title five times, but has done so with considerable ease.

This one at UFC Fight Night 217 is an easy prediction. It is highly unlikely that Rose Namajunas can defeat Joanna Jedrzejczyk. It is not about whether Jedrzejczyk will be able to defend her titile, we are pretty sure she can! The question really is how much trouble can Namajunas cause while she is still standing on two feet.

So how good is Namajunas? Well, she is capable of causing some trouble. However, it is only a limited amount of trouble that she can cause. Against, someone like Jedrzejczyk, she might not be able to cause any trouble whatsoever.

Don’t get us wrong, Namajunas is a very talented fighter. She has defeated women such as Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson.

But, Jedrzejczyk is just too much of an ask right now. Unless Jedrzejczyk for some reasons makes a huge mistake or only relies on grappling (which is Namajunas’ forte) or if Namajunas is able to land a heavy and unexpected blow to cut the fight short, it is highly unlikely that she will be able to come out on top here.

Furthermore, Jedrzejczyk is going to be up to the brim with confidence going into this fight. She has looked invincible recently and she knows how good her form is. Our prediction for this one is going to be Jedrzejczyk to win by unanimous decision.

UFC Fight Night 217 is almost here and all eyes are going to be on the highlight of the main card which is Michael Bisping Vs. Georges St-Pierre. Fighting in the middle weight division. The fans are almost divided exactly in half when it comes to what they think about this fight, either you love it or you hate it. Some think it is the most interesting fight to happen in the UFC for a while, and others say it is the worst match up in the history of the UFC.

In a competitive sense, the fight is most certainly a questionable one. Both fighters have been missing in action for substantial periods now. On one hand, Bisping has not been fighting regularly and for more than one reason and St-Pierre fought last over four years ago. Given their long absences, it is not really a question of whether they are going to be rusty but rather a question of how rusty are they going to be? However, if either fighter had to come back and face anyone else in the division, it would be much worse. In fact, this is actually a balanced fight considering that they have both been out of action in recent times.

Even though there are several other top-notch contenders in this weight class, this fight can be justified purely from a standpoint of the history that these two fighters have. St. Pierre is one among “the greatest of all time” and Bisping has taken down the likes of the best in the business including the likes of Silva.

St. Pierre is the better pound to pound fighter, there are factors such as ring rust and size difference which are not in his favor at all. Having said that, Bisping is known to make mistakes. St. Pierre should be able to put this one in the bag.

UFC 214 – Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones Predictions

UFC 214 kicks off on July 29, 2017 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. It is possibly the biggest card of 2017 yet, which is pretty evident from the lineup of fights.

  • Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones
  • Cris Cyborg vs. Tonya Evinger
  • Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia

Let’s tackle the Cormier vs. Jones bout. One must remember that Cormier lost to Jones by unanimous decision in their first meeting in the ring at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015. However, he did pick up some nice wins that include a double against Anthony Johnson, and Anderson Silva and Alexander Gustafsson, which makes his a formidable opponent as he has seemed to tighten up his games. On the other hand, Jones has only fought once since his last meeting with Cormier where he won over Ovince Saint Preux by a unanimous decision. What’s important to note is that this was back in April 2016 in UFC 197, so that is a pretty long layoff, which was following suspensions and other incidents outside the octagon.

Can Jones pull it off this time or has his skills diminished with his inactivity? He remains a clear favorite, which of course, Jones’ fans will be happy about. For Cormier, there is a lot at stake and he will need to prove himself as the light heavyweight champ despite wins against Gustafsson and Johnson. He did say that he hadn’t tried hard enough in the clinch in his last fight with Jones and this will be on his mind this time around. That said, Cormier otherwise has a neat record which may tempt punters to put some money on him.

However, Jones is definitely the one to pick. He hasn’t lost except for his fight against Matt Hamill in 2009 at the Ultimate Fighter Finale. He seems to be in good shape and could pick up another win against Cormier by unanimous decision. Time away from the sport may have taken a toll on some fighters but Jones could prove everyone wrong at UFC 214.

UFC 213 Predictions – Alistair Overeem Vs. Fabricio Werdum

The only heavyweight fight of UFC fight night 213 comes in the form of Alistair Overeem taking on Fabricio Werdum. These two certainly have a history. If there is one fight on the cards that may be highly technical and well weighted then it is going to be Overeem Vs. Werdum. Both fighters are highly […]

The only heavyweight fight of UFC fight night 213 comes in the form of Alistair Overeem taking on Fabricio Werdum. These two certainly have a history. If there is one fight on the cards that may be highly technical and well weighted then it is going to be Overeem Vs. Werdum. Both fighters are highly experienced and have fought competitively for many years now. However, they are also familiar with each other’s fighting styles , techniques, advantages and disadvantages like no two other fighters. It seems like they somehow wind up coming up against each other, and come July 8th on OFC 213 in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada they will both get a chance to settle the score once and for all.

In terms of their records, they stand at Alistair Overeem ( 42 – 15 ) and Fabricio Werdum ( 21 – 6 – 1 ). The first time that the pair faced off was over a decade ago back in 2006. It was Werdum who came out on top that day as he managed to put Overeem in a guillotine choke which Overeem had no way out of and ended up tapping out. However, Overeem was able to avenge his defeat in 2011 in Strikeforce in heavyweight grand prix where they threw hands. The fight went through its paces and lasted all the rounds. Overeem succeeded this time in dodging and evading Werdum’s grapple attacks and was crowned the winner by unanimous decision.

While the previous two fights have been in respectable tournaments, it was no UFC! This time, there is a lot at stake and neither fighter is going to hold back. Their previous fights have been entertaining fights, but this is set to be a real block buster. The situation at the moment is that the heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic does not have a worthy contender, and the winner of this fight may very well fit that spot perfectly! Neither of these men are getting any younger and they will not be getting too many title shots in the future, this is an opportunity like no other, but who can make it count?

The fact of the matter is that Overeem has looked in great shape both physically and mentally despite his loss to Miocic recently. Werdum’s strategy is going to be wait for Overeem to let his guard down and go for a grapple to wrap up the fight.

Prediction – Overeem to win be technical knockout.

UFC Fight Night 110 : Vinc Pichel Vs. Damien Brown / Luke Jumeau Vs. Dominique Steele

Vinc Pichel Vs. Damien Brown  Damien Brown will be high on confidence given that he has not just taken on the likes of Cesar Arzamendia and Jon Tuck, but has also defeated them in the very recent past. Brown is an Australian fighter and won’t be too far away from home when he fights Vinc […]

Vinc Pichel Vs. Damien Brown

Damien Brown will be high on confidence given that he has not just taken on the likes of Cesar Arzamendia and Jon Tuck, but has also defeated them in the very recent past. Brown is an Australian fighter and won’t be too far away from home when he fights Vinc Pichel in Auckland on June 10th in the UFC 110 Fight Night in Auckland.

Brown is a good all rounder and has sharp striking skills which makes him a force to be reckoned with no matter who he is up against. His ground game is also solid and he has been in top physical shape and has been able to fight quite frequently with four competitive fights just in the previous year.

On the contrary, Pichel has not been anywhere as active as Brown. Pichel has been out of action for the previous three years. A sabbatical of such a lengthy duration can make anyone rather rusty upon their return irrespective of how often and how hard you have been training. In fact, this is one of the main reasons why Pichel is an underdog in the fight and Brown is a strong favorite.

However, even though he has been out of action for a substantial period of time, it is not to say that Pichel was not getting results before his temporary retirement. He was on a great run until he was put on the sidelines in 2014 after back to back losses at the hands of Garret Whiteley and Anthony Njokunal. Pichel certainly is an exciting fighter to watch and a fan favorite. He is aggressive and heavy handed.

Prediction – Despite being out of action for three long years, we predict an upset here with underdog Vinc Pichel to win by unanimous decision.

Luke Jumeau Vs. Dominique Steele

Fighting in the 170 lbs category are Luke Jumeau and Dominique Steele who will face on in Auckland Fight Night on June 10th. Luke Jumeau (11-3) is also known as The Jedi and he has been on the raise since he lost at the hands of Jingliang Li and Jake Matthews. Since these two defeats, Jumeau has been able to turn his form around and has looked solid in his last six wins, which have all been victories. His most recent fight was against highly experienced Vik Grujic whom he took on and knocked out in the second round.

Jumeau has five wins by knockouts to his name. Will he be able to add Dominique Steel to this list?

Dominique Steele is actually entering the Octagon to face Jumeau after his previous two fights have been losses. However, these were both unanimous decisions and both were really close calls which could have gone his way on a different day. Prior to the two unanimous losses, Jumeau took on Dong Hyun Kim and knocked him out with a spectacular slam. Jumeau’s strengths are his set of heavy hands and he also has some deadly low kicks in his arsenal which can be really devastating when he connects.

Dominique Steele, will be hungry for a win. He has suffered four knock outs in the recent past and has a lot to prove to himself if not to everyone else. His strategy will be to stay in the fight and run the clock down while tiring out Jumeau and slowly raking up technical points in order to win by decision.

Prediction – while Jumeau is a little bit of a favorite, we think Steele really can change his form with this match with a win by unanimous decision.
