Alistair Overeem made headlines earlier this month following his knockout loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC DC.

However, it wasn’t because of his defeat or the somewhat controversial stoppage — but because of the injury he suffered during the final few seconds. With four seconds remaining in the fight, Rozenstruik dropped Overeem with a massive right hook.

The referee later stopped the fight as Overeem got up and stumbled to his side. But what was later revealed was Overeem having his lip cut wide open due to the punch.

The images went viral as Overeem had to get plastic surgery done to repair his lip. And thanks to footage from “UFC Destined”, we get to see how it looked afterwards as well as his reaction to the fight.

You can watch the video below:

Overeem was notably in good spirits even though he did feel he was robbed with the early stoppage:

“It was a nice fight,” Overeem said. “It was a good scrap. I was winning all rounds, just doing my thing. Yeah, I don’t know. Too fast of a stoppage if you ask me. I was not out, I was knocked down, getting right back up. The ref didn’t see the damage by then but sometimes you got these days.”

Looking back, what did you think of the stoppage?

Jairzinho Ronzenstruik’s performance and callout certainly got Francis Ngannou’s attention.

Rozenstruik got the biggest win of his career with a late fifth-round knockout of Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC DC on Saturday night. It was all the more impressive considering he was going to lose on the judges’ scorecards with just four seconds remaining in the fight.

Afterwards, “Bigi Boy” proceeded to call out Ngannou:

“I want to be back March or April…and I really want to fight this big, scary guy Francis Ngannou,” Rozenstruik said in his post-fight interview.

Not many people call out “The Predator” who responded on social media soon after:

“I heard you babayga. You made yourself very clear tonight. Congrats on your come back by the way. #uncrowndedchamp #UFCDC”

Could we see this next? It’s certainly possible especially as Ngannou waits for the Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier trilogy fight to get over. Ngannou was expected to face Alexander Volkov next with the pair going back-and-forth on social media.

But if they can’t agree to a bout, maybe Ngannou vs. Rozenstruik should be next on the agenda.

What do you think of a possible Ngannou vs. Rozenstruik matchup? Who wins that contest?

Things didn’t go well for longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Alistair Overeem in his UFC DC main event matchup with Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Overeem and Rozenstruik went back-and-forth for five rounds, in what was mostly a striking battle, before Overeem began to gas in the closing minutes of the fifth round. However, Overeem slowing down proved to be a big mistake, as Rozenstruik caught him with a big overhand that dropped him to the canvas stiff.

Although Overeem jumped up to his feet quickly, he stumbled badly and the referee decided to wave the action off. After the fight, it was noticed that the punch actually ripped Overeem’s lip apart. It was a grizzly scene, to say the least. Now, Overeem has taken to Twitter to react to the injury.

Here’s what he had to say:

“Getting stitched up. Lip not to sexy at the moment.. a little bit a fast stoppage if u ask me – but hope u guys enjoyed the fight”

After his win, Rozenstruik called out fellow feared knockout artist Francis Ngannou, which would certainly prove to be an interesting matchup. It will be intriguing to see what’s next for both Overeem and Rozenstruik after UFC DC.

What do you think about Overeem getting his lip split open in his KO Loss to Rozenstruik?

Rozenstruik and Alistair Overeem went five rounds in the heavyweight division, putting up what was mostly a striking battle. Of course, Rozenstruik decided to capitalize with a massive shot, nailing Overeem with seconds left to knock him out, and destroy his lip.

Although Overeem got to his feet rather quickly after the shot, he stumbled badly, forcing the referee to call the action off and hand Rozenstruik a last-second knockout victory. Check out the amazing finish below.

It remains to be seen what will be next for Rozenstruik after such a great victory. He actually called out feared knockout artist Francis Ngannou, a matchup that would certainly interest fans, putting two knockout artists up against one another.
