After Donald Cerrone got his hand raised last weekend (Nov. 10, 2018) in Denver, he told media in attendance that the UFC had already given him a name for his next fight.

“Cowboy” is now the winningest fighter in UFC history. He also holds the promotion’s record for most finishes as well.

Despite picking up the biggest win of his career, Cerrone will now drop back down to 155 pounds. And it looks as if Conor McGregor will be the man to welcome “Cowboy” back to the lightweight division.

If Cerrone and McGregor ever do meet in the Octagon, many people will be watching. Plenty of people will be betting on the fight as well. As a matter of fact, Cerrone has opened as the betting underdog against McGregor at a line of +150 according to Bovada.lv.

The line on this fight will no doubt fluctuate a great deal if and when this fight gains any traction. These odds are eerily similar to the opening odds of some of McGregor’s past title fights. These were his lightweight title bout against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 and his initial featherweight clash with Jose Aldo at UFC 194.

The UFC won’t be officially able to book McGregor in a fight until he settles his issues with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). He is still temporarily suspended for his role in the post-fight brawl at October 6’s UFC 229. McGregor is expected to receive punishment at the NSAC hearing in December.

If and how long he will be suspended remains to be seen. If he makes it back to fight Cowboy, however, he’s the favorite as of now. Do you agree with these odds?

This past weekend’s (Sat. November 10, 2018) UFC Denver card featured some great fights. However, some fighters did suffer some injuries that will keep them sidelined for a while.

In the main event of the night, Yair Rodriguez pulled off a thrilling last-second knockout win over “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. Rodriguez has been issued a 180-day medical suspension after the brawl. However, he can be cleared earlier with the note of a doctor. Regardless, he will serve a 60-day minimum suspension either way.

Jung has been issued a 60-day minimum suspension after being knocked out by “El Pantera.” Also, co-main event competitor Mike Perry was given a 90-day suspension after being armbarred by Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the first round. However, should he obtain clearance from a doctor’s letter, he can return earlier with no minimum suspension.

Check out the full UFC Denver medical suspensions below (via Sherdog):

Ashley Yoder vs. Amanda Cooper in a women’s strawweight bout headlined the preliminary card. This portion of the card averaged 565,000 viewers. Competition

The show did have to go up against some heavy competition. They had to go up against college football on ABC, NBC, FOX, ESPN, and ESPN 2. Georgia vs. Auburn game was the highest rated with 3,987,000 viewers.

Fight fans will not have to wait long for more UFC action as the Las Vegas-based promotion returns with another event.

Mike Perry says during a recent interview that he thinks all of the drama leading into this most recent fight played a factor into his performance. In the fight, which served as the co-main event of UFC Denver at Pepsi Center, Donald Cerrone submitted Perry via armbar at 4:46 of the first round.

Back in August, Cerrone verbally assaulted the JacksonWink gym, including calling them a “puppy mill” when speaking with Joe Rogan on his podcast. Following these comments, Winkeljohn would defend his gym by calling Cerrone a “narcissistic” man who is only loyal to himself. The beef also has to do with the fact that Cerrone was fighting Perry.

During an appearance on Submission Radio, he stated that he felt the pressure of fighting someone else’s fight hurt his performance.

“Listen, I’m gonna tell you something here and it’s gonna sound crazy,” said Perry (H/T to MMA Fighting). “I’m not gonna take nothing away from Cowboy. He won fair and square. But I felt like I was staring defeat in the face that night. I felt like, you know, okay, if it had gone the other way. They would’ve been like, oh, Cowboy had all the pressure.”

Perry continued by stating that his coaching was taking over his body due to his training takedowns leading into this fight.

“But me, I was fighting a fight that wasn’t my fight, it was JacksonWink versus Cowboy Cerrone. So, it was my coaching that took my body over. It was something, the way that we trained that I was ending up with takedowns on people. And then their Jiu Jitsu wasn’t the level of Cowboy Cerrone to counter me.”

The UFC star also discussed how he thought he was facing defeat even before he got into the Octagon to fight the fan favorite.

“So, I think I stared defeat in the face that night and I got in the cage anyways. I felt like I was gonna lose before I ever walked in. Maybe that’s just because I lost now. But I just felt like everything was against me. And it was just to make me stronger.”

At the end of the day, Perry understands that he learned more from this loss than he would’ve if he won the fight. Thus, he’s trying to keep positive about the fight.

“I felt like I learned more from that loss than I would’ve ever learned from a win. That’s it. I was looking at the grim reaper and I entered the cage with him. I brought the real Cowboy Cerrone. We were the best two fighters on the planet when we were in that cage. Period.”
