Colby Covington Destroys Fabricio Werdum For Failing USADA Drug Test

Here’s a surprise.

The post Colby Covington Destroys Fabricio Werdum For Failing USADA Drug Test appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

He may have been reported to headline UFC Moscow just yesterday, but former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum saw that fight fall apart when news broke he had failed a USADA drug test earlier today.

Details were scant about the Brazilian veteran’s potential violation, as his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, stated they had not yet been informed Werdum had been pulled from his reported bout with Alexey Oleynik at the UFC’s first trip to Russia on September 15 and that he had not used any illegal substance.

The gears are still churning in that regard, but one of Werdum’s outside-the-cage enemies, not surprisingly, took to social media shortly after the news broke to call him out.

UFC interim welterweight title challenger Colby Covington, who had his own highly publicized beef with Werdum at last November’s UFC Sydney that resulted in “Vai Cavalo” being arrested for throwing a boomerang at Chaos,’ called the former champion a ‘slimeball’ for allegedly using performance-enhancing drugs:

While it’s hardly a surprise to hear Covington call Werdum out – he’s called out nearly every prominent name in MMA since his win over Demian Maia last October – this one is actually involving someone he has a legitimate beef with, making it all the more enticing.

Covington is building a name for himself by talking as much trash as he can, and it’s working.

As for Werdum, he’s now caught in the wheels of justice, and when that comes to USADA, the wheels can tend to move slowly.

Stay tuned.

Fabricio Werdum Flagged For Potential Anti-Doping Violation

It appears as if UFC Moscow is already in need of a new main event:

The post Fabricio Werdum Flagged For Potential Anti-Doping Violation appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Just yesterday (May 21, 2018), it was reported that a heavyweight fight between former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum and veteran contender Alexey Oleynik would serve as the main event of UFC Moscow, which is set to take place on September 15 at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia.

Now, however, it has been announced that Werdum has been flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for a potential anti-doping violation.

The UFC released the following statement regarding the situation:

The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Fabricio Werdum of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on April 25, 2018.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Werdum. Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.

It’s currently unclear what exactly the Brazilian tested positive for, but as always, he will be afforded due process.

The 41-year-old Werdum is coming off of a knockout loss to Alexander Volkov this past March in London, England. Prior to that, he had won back-to-back fights over the likes of Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura.

After years of making inroads towards the Russian MMA market, the UFC will finally host its first ever event in Russia in September, the promotion announced on Wednesday.

The event will take place on September 15 in Moscow, and tickets will go on sale on June 1 according to the UFC.

Senior Vice President, UFC International and Content David Shaw described the promotion’s focus on utilizing Russia as a key part of their ongoing international expansion and outreach in a recent press release:

“Russia is a key part of UFC’s international expansion strategy.

“The demand from our fans to bring a live event to Russia has been overwhelming, and with the vast potential this market holds for us, we knew this was the perfect time to bring UFC Fight Night to Moscow.”

The UFC has signed several Russian fighters including current lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, and the Russian MMA fan base has remained an untapped market for the UFC.

No fights have been announced yet for the Moscow card, but it will likely feature a bevy of Russian MMA fighters. With Nurmagomedov now a UFC champion, expect the promotion to continue its efforts to expand into Russian territory.
