Islam Makhachev (23-1 MMA) had begun his preparations for his first title defense against Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (25-1 MMA) at UFC 284.

It has only been six weeks since Makhachev realized his dream of becoming UFC champion after he managed to shock the world and submit Charles Oliveira (33-9 MMA) in round two at UFC 280

Amid the celebrations, Makhachev was already eyeing up his next opponent with Volkanovski entering the octagon as the UFC announced a potential super fight for the Lightweight title and the right to be called the pound-for-pound king.

With both fighters eager for the fight to happen, it was only the time and place left to be ironed out.

The UFC has been eyeing up the chance to return to Australia after not being able to go back ever since the pandemic. Despite struggling to get the contracts arranged, the fight has now been confirmed to take place in Perth, Australia on February 11th for UFC 284

Islam Makhachev enters camp in preparation for Alexander Volkanovski

As the build-up to the fight continues, there have been cases made for why both men can come out on top at UFC 284.

For Islam Makhachev, his hype is greater than ever, in addition, to his size and wrestling advantage. On the other hand, Alexander Volkanovski is unbeaten for almost a decade along with an apparent speed and power edge.

Regardless the Dagestani native is taking no chances as he starts his fight camp for the 145lbs champion ten weeks out.

Fight camp is on, be ready short guy,” Islam Makhachev stated on social media

‘The Great’ has subsequently begun his preparations for his opponent as well. Volkanovski believes the fight will be majority a stand-up affair but expresses his greater focus on his wrestling and takedown defense during this camp.

The 34-year-old has also been eating a large amount of food per day to ensure his bulk up for his lightweight title fight.

Maycee Barber

US-born UFC fighter Maycee Barber has had dangerous run-ins with a stalker during her MMA career. This stalker was caught, arrested, and has been sentenced to ten years behind bars.

In an interview with Middle Easy, Maycee Barber explained the situation:

“I had a pretty serious stalker situation which went on for about two-three years. At the time that I missed weight, that was when he was not in jail and he was somewhere in Denver and I was fighting in Denver so I was [under] super high stress. They had the SWAT after him, the security at the fight had a picture of him and knew, ‘Hey, this is the guy. Nobody lets this guy in.’

This occurrence happened in 2018 when Barber faced Hannah Cifers in Denver, USA. She continued:

That happened during my weight cut so I was really stressed out. That’s not an excuse, I did what I could and I tried to make the weight and I missed the weight so that’s on me and I still wanted that fight so we made it work. But the end of that story is he’s in jail now. He’s being sentenced to like 10 years.” [Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting]

Maycee Barber says most female UFC athletes can relate

Maycee Barber went on to add that every female athlete in the UFC would likely have a similar story to hers. She added:

“It’s not just me. Every female athlete is gonna have that. Every female is gonna have that. This world is dark and dirty and I feel like social media has allowed people to just say whatever they want and have no repercussions whatsoever. I don’t read through messages and it sucks because there’s times where there’s messages from young girls, young people, that are good, but the stalker that I had was impersonating a young girl so it’s hard to really decipher and figure out who is who and what’s what. So to protect my own self, I just try not to respond at all.”

Currently, in the octagon, Barber is on a three-fight win streak. She has impressive wins over Jessica Eye, Montana De La Rosa, and Miranda Maverick. At merely the age of 24, she has eight fights in the UFC and is a notable fighter to keep an eye on. She will likely be back in early 2023.

‘The Baddy’ Paddy Pimblett is looking for more fights than his UFC contract can offer. The Liverpool-born athlete will be facing Jared Gordon at UFC 282 on December 11 but he’s looking for more.

Earlier this week, ‘The Baddy’ agreed to a match against Jake Paul, then called out the Irish superstar Conor McGregor. In a recent interview, the English fighter revealed a football player he would love to scrap against. While speaking on Pub Talk, Pimblett said:

“Last season, when he first got signed, it was Bruno Fernandes, ’cause of how overrated he was. But now, it’s Bernardo Silva, lad. I don’t know anyone who likes Bernardo Silva, lad. He’s an unbelievable footballer. He’s a proper baller. But he’s a horrible wrong’un. He’s a piece of sh*t. That time when they gave us (Liverpool F.C.) a guard of honor, and he just stood there. Come on lad.” [Transcript courtesy of MMA News]

Bernardo Silva, born in Portugal, is currently playing for Manchester City, a rival of Liverpool FC which is a team closely followed by Pimblett. Silva is currently playing for the Portuguese national team in the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosted in Qatar. Portugal will next be playing South Korea on December 2 and will likely be moving to the final 16 of the tournament.

Jared Gordon taking ‘The Baddy’ Paddy Pimblett very seriously

Liverpool’s ‘The Baddy’ Paddy Pimblett is looking for fights against Jake Paul, Conor McGregor, and Bernardo Silva, however, his actual opponent later this month is taking this fight very seriously. In an interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Gordon explained his attitude:

“I think he’s more well prepared, and he has a lot of support, and he has the money now to afford to have nutritionists and other coaches and traveling for training and new ideas and new people. Sometimes all you need is a little tweak in your game, and all of a sudden, things change for you in a good way. I am not underestimating him whatsoever. I think it’s going to be a fun, tough fight.” [Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting]

The US-born Jared Gordon will look to earn an impressive win at UFC 282 on December 11 against UFC superstar Paddy Pimblett.
