Georges St-Pierre, possibly the greatest welterweight of all time, has weighed in on why Kamaru Usman is the the current most dominant 170lber in the UFC. Following Usman’s decisive victory over Gilbert Burns, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ actually stated that a fight against GSP is something that would appeal to him.

However, GSP swiftly shut down any chance of a potential matchup between the two fighters. ‘Rush’ stated that a fight with the 170lb champ doesn’t get him motivated to start a new training camp and return to the UFC. However, he did take time to sit down with Sportsnet’s Good Show and praise Usman’s dominant run in the UFC. The French-Canadian former fighter had the following to say:

“Great performance. It was a good fight. I think it’s a good testimony to his strengths because he faces a lot of adversity in the first round. He was able to come back strong and I think it will make him grow because it’s easy to fight if everything goes well. But sometimes you have to face adversity and obstacles in your career. Now we had a big challenge when he got rocked and was able to come back. This fight will make him a better fighter,” GSP said of Usman.

“We are both different styles. I like the way he switches stances,” GSP said. “He puts a lot of great pressure on that fence. He’s a very good fence wrestler. He’s a great all-around fighter, he’s fantastic. I love watching him. He’s a great fighter. You can’t really compare us. Every fighter is different. Me, I like to get my takedowns from the outside, and then I use a decoy to get in, or I use what I call a decoy when a guy tries to hit me I use the timing to get inside for the takedowns. His takedowns are more fence takedowns chain takedowns. He’s very good. He’s the best at what he does” (transcribed via BJPenn.com).

Despite being a regular aspect of MMA news, GSP is still yet to show any actual interest in returning to the Octagon. There were initially rumours circulating about a potential matchup with Khabib Nurmagomedov, with GSP stating that the fight excites him. However, the rumours have somewhat disappeared regarding that fight, and GSP does not appear to be looking for a return.

Daniel Cormier: ‘I Don’t Think Julian Marquez Has Ever Had A Girlfriend’

Daniel Cormier has weighed on the bizarre series on interactions between UFC middleweight Julian Marquez and pop star Miley Cyrus. Marquez recently had a viral post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, where he asked for a callout. Typically such callouts would be aimed at other fighters, in order to set up a favourable matchup. However, Marquez called out Miley Cyrus, asking if she would his Valentine.

To the surprise of many, Miley actually responded. The American singer stated that should Marquez get an MC shaved into his chest hair, she was all for it. However, Marquez, in some bizarre lapse of judgement, threw a counter offer at he, stating that he only would, if she got a henna tattoo of his nickname, ‘The Cuban Missile Crisis’ on her stomach.

Marquez’s Blunder

Miley was unsurprisingly unimpressed with Marquez’s request and promptly shut down the middleweight. In an Instagram story, she posted a picture with the caption “This could have been your but you dumb.” The rest of the MMA community are now reacting to Marquez’s ill-advised actions, and none have been more vocal than Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier. In the latest episode of Cormier and Ariel Helwani’s podcast show, DC & Helwani, Cormier had the following to say:

“You come and give a demand to Miley Cyrus, Julian Marquez? It was a blunder because now it’s over. It’s over. She’s not engaging anymore, it’s over. She’s like ‘well, I gave the UFC guy a Tweet. I gave the guy an opportunity…’ If he had [shaved ‘MC’ into his chest hair], she would have responded, she would have Retweeted it, she would have talked about it. But now…

This is the action of a guy that’s never had a girlfriend. I don’t think Julian Marquez has ever had a girlfriend in his life. You don’t see stuff like that, you got the cool girl! You got the belle of the ball to respond. All you’ve got to do is go and shave the ‘MC’, and the moment you take the picture you can just shave it all off and it’ll grow back in two days. But instead, you make a demand to Miley Cyrus.”

Cormier ended the rant by saying that “I crumbled for the poor guy. “I literally died inside for the poor guy. Julian, you blew it. He’s a nice guy, but he blew it” (as transcribed by BJPenn.com).

Colby Covington

Top welterweight contender Colby Covington has shut down rumours he will fight Leon Edwards on March 13.

‘Rocky’ is in need of an opponent after Khamzat Chimaev pulled out of their scheduled main event match-up.

UFC president Dana White told media he was trying to keep Edwards on the card and a potential bout with Covington was on the table.

In an interview with Submission Radio, Covington claimed he would not be doing charity by fighting “Leon Scott” on March 13.

“Leon Scott hasn’t earned anything, boys. I’m in the Colby Covington Incorporated championship business, I’m not in the Leon Scott charity business,” Covington said. “This isn’t charity hour, man.

“I’m fighting at the top of the mountain, I’m fighting the best in the world. Did Marty Fakenewsman get a call from the president after his last fight? Oh geez, I wonder why? Because he sucks, he’s irrelevant. So, I’ve done things no one has ever done in this sport

“I’m not doing charity busines no more. It’s not my fault this kid hasn’t fought in two years. It’s not my fault this kid – there’s people from England fighting all the time in the pandemic, they’re not scared to fight. So, I’m not doing charity for this guy who hasn’t fought in two years. He’s irrelevant, he’s beat a bunch of bums, and I’m not doing charity. This isn’t charity hour, this is fucken championship fucken pay-per-view hour.”

Covington is hope to secure a world title fight and adamant Jorge Masvidal should not be next in line.

“Let’s talk about real business, let’s not talk about charity business no more. I deserve and I earned a fight for the world title. I just destroyed the former champion, finished him like nobody’s finished him before in the UFC,” Covington said. “I came back and won a fight, what has Jorge Masvidal done besides sit on the sidelines and fake fucken pull out of fights? He’s scared to fight. He knows he’s washed up, he’s a journeyman. He’s looking for one more pay day. No one wants to see that guy fight for the title, they know what’s gonna happen. It’s gonna be the same exact outcome. And why reward a coward like that? A guy that’s blatantly scared to fight?”
