Charles Oliveira is ready to fight someone else for the lightweight title.

Oliveira is coming off an impressive unanimous decision win over Tony Ferguson in December which put him on an eight-fight winning streak.

And with Dustin Poirier knocking Conor McGregor out at UFC 257 last month, many in the combat sports world — including the former — feel a title fight should take place between the pair.

However, after McGregor recently broke down his defeat to Poirier and spoke of his excitement for a trilogy, “The Diamond” was reciprocative of the idea.

“You know we are going to do it a 3rd time ?

That led to Oliveira responding on Thursday.

“Hum… So don’t you wanna face me for the 155’s gold? Who’s next then? Who I need to beat to have this lightweight belt around my waist? #UFC”

It would certainly be a huge blow if Oliveira doesn’t fight for the title next as a matchup with Poirier for the vacant strap makes too much sense.

However, as we’ve seen with Tony Ferguson, the rightful contenders don’t always get what they deserve.

What do you think of Poirier’s interest in a McGregor trilogy over Oliveira?

VanZant

Ahead of her promotional debut with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship tomorrow, former UFC flyweight and strawweight contender, Paige ’12 Gauge’ VanZant has claimed she’ll earn ten times what she made under her former banner, with the David Feldman led organization.

VanZant, who transitions to bare knuckle fighting following an eight-year stint in professional mixed martial arts, headlines BKFC 16 in Tampa, Florida as she clashes with Britain Hart in a main event bout.

Penning a multi-fight, multi-million dollar deal with the Philidelphia-based organization, VanZant tested free-agency following her UFC 251 submission loss to Brazilian contender, Amanda Ribas last July — reportedly turning down an offer from Scott Coker’s Bellator MMA.

Speaking with assembled media yesterday ahead of the ‘Knucklemania’ event, VanZant maintained that despite the potential risks that come with her transition to bare-knuckle fighting, the juice will prove to be worth the squeeze.

I’m here for a reason,” VanZant said. I was in the UFC for six years, getting paid $40,000 (show money) and $40,000 (win money), and now I’m getting ten times that doing what I love. So obviously, I’m not going anywhere. I’m very happy fighting here, and I’m excited to fight.

Touching on the prospect of linking up with the above mentioned Bellator, VanZant explained how her coaches and husband, Austin Vanderford had attempted to sway her in favour of a move to the Scott Coker led promotion, however, the 26-year-old claimed she followed her passion with a move to BKFC.

I was really fortunate coming from the UFC that I did have so many organizations (who) reached out, and I truly wasn’t sure where my career was going to go,” VanZant explained. “I had two big offers that were in competition: This one (BKFC) or Bellator, which my husband fights for. I know I had a lot of people — my coaches, my husband — they all wanted me to go to Bellator. But I had to go where my passion lies, and I truly know this is the organization I belong with. This is the one I was most passionate about. This is where I see myself being the most successful.

VanZant, who secured three stoppages via submission and two via strikes during her mixed martial arts career, detailed how she “absolutely” loves striking — with the possibility to do just that an exciting prospect ahead of tomorrow’s debut.

I absolutely love my striking, it’s what I was known for in the UFC, so I’m excited to come in there and show how tough I am,” VanZant said. “That’s one thing I’ve carried throughout my entire career, is no one can say I’m definitely not one tough chick, and I plan to show that I’m very fortunate I’m in a position where I love the organization I fight for.” (H/T MMA Junkie)

Sean O’Malley Picks Jake Paul To Beat Ben Askren In Boxing Match

UFC bantamweight contender, ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley has given his thoughts on the upcoming April 17 professional boxing match between YouTube content creator, Jake Paul, and former ONE Championship, Bellator, and UFC feature, ‘Funky’ Ben Askren.

Slated to himself return to active competition following his first career knockout loss last August, polarizing Montana native, O’Malley draws Brazilian Muay Thai practitioner, Thomas ‘Thominhas’ Almeida in a UFC 260 clash on March 27.

Attempting to rebound from the August defeat and realign himself on the route to top contention at 135-pounds, Dana White’s Contender Series alum, O’Malley dropped a late, opening-round knockout loss to Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera in the UFC 252 co-main event clash, with the Ecuadorian aggravating a prior leg injury via a brisk leg kick midway through the frame — before finishing O’Malley with ground strikes.

Praising the finishing ability of Paul, O’Malley questioned if Askren were to stand opposite, Nate Robinson, would he be able to take him out inside four rounds.

Jake Paul, you see him knocking out — I don’t think Ben Askren knocks out Nate Robinson,” O’Malley said. “I don’t think he knocks him out, does he? No, he doesn’t. In four rounds? Probably not. He just doesn’t have that pop that Jake has. Jake Paul’s an athlete too, he’s an athletic guy. He f**king, a pretty big guy — he’s bigger than Ben I think. I think he’s like 6″1.

He’s a big dude, and he can crack and he can punch,” O’Malley continued. “We’ve seen it, we’ve seen him knockout sparring partners. He’s looking pretty sharp on the mits. He looks like he’s been training a lot in a little bit of time — in a couple years. He’s been training, grinding, trying to get better. This fight’s only — not that far away, it’s not that far out.”

Giving a lengthy breakdown of the upcoming Triller promoted boxing matchup — O’Malley claimed that he believes out of the duo, Paul may have the more superior boxing skillset when compared with Roufusport mainstay, Askren.

I think when it comes to skill-wise, boxing skill, who’s got better boxing skill — just in the pure sport of boxing, I think Jake Paul does,” O’Malley explained. “Ben’s never really just done boxing training, why would you? You’re a f**king wrestler, your gameplan is to wrestle. (You) maybe throw hands into a shot, get good at that. It’s still different than boxing. So I think Jake Paul is gonna have more skill.

Ben vs. Jake — I got Jake,” O’Malley said. “I got Jake, I got Jake, man, I don’t know — I’m watching. This is absolutely insane. He’s 2-0 as a pro, Ben Askren has never boxed pro this is absolutely insane. I’m watching, tune in.

Prior to his opening-round knockout loss to rival, Vera, O’Malley had made a successful Octagon return in the opening months of last year with a first-round knockout win of his own over Jose Alberto Quinonez, as well as a Knockout of the Year contender via his one-punch finish of former WEC bantamweight champion, Eddie Wineland.
