Video: Bruce Buffer Introduces Arguing Couple in GEICO Commercial

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wNVCEfeffM

Couples who find themselves arguing at the dinner table probably don’t expect a well known personality to intervene. When that particular person happens to be Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announcer Bruce Buffer, it may be confusing enough to forget about the argument altogether.

The official YouTube channel of the UFC rolled out a new video that viewers probably weren’t anticipating. It’s a new GEICO commercial featuring Buffer. A couple is seen arguing at a restaurant. When Buffer senses a fight brewing, he can’t help but provide the introductions.

Here’s the description of the video:

“If you’re Bruce Buffer, ‘voice of the UFC Octagon,’ you announce fights. It’s what you do. When a couple is arguing in a restaurant, the people around them usually try to ignore them and pretend not to notice. Not Bruce Buffer, ‘voice of the UFC Octagon.’ When Bruce sees a fight about to start, he announces it. It’s what he does.”

The “Veteran Voice of the Octagon” made his UFC announcing debut in 1996. Buffer filled in for Rich Goins at UFC 10. While Goins would return at UFC 11, the promotion stuck with Buffer as their official announcer for 20 years.

Buffer is the half brother of famed boxing announcer Michael Buffer. Michael had done the introductions for UFC 6 and UFC 7. Bruce caused a bit of a stir when he compared women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes to Chuck Liddell. He said “The Lioness” is, “like Chuck Liddell with a clitoris.”

When it comes to his announcing, it’s hard to find someone to compare to Buffer. The man isn’t perfect. Take for example his error naming Tyron Woodley the winner at UFC 205 when his fight with Stephen Thompson was actually a majority draw.

Still, when you hear Buffer’s voice you know it’s fight time. Even under new ownership, Buffer is one name that probably won’t go away anytime soon.

MMA Legend Bas Rutten Believes Brock Lesnar Will Fight Again

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGr8EsF5caw[/embed]

Bas Rutten, one of the true founding fathers of MMA, believes we have not seen the last of former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar inside the Octageon.

“I have a feeling that – and I know people are gonna go, “oh you’re crazy,” but I think Brock Lesnar will be back as well. I truly believe that,” said Rutten, during a recent appearance on Submission Radio.

Lesnar was fined and suspended for a year dating back to July for his failed post-fight drug test following a bout with Mark Hunt at UFC 200. The current WWE superstar was granted an exception to the four-month testing period typically enforced by the USADA due to his coming out of retirement for the bout.

Recently, Lesnar and the UFC have been served with a civil suit from Hunt due to the usage of a banned substance.

“If (Ronda) Rousey decided to hang it up, they got only Conor McGregor. Now, Conor’s not going to fight for a very long time anymore. I think this guy needs to be in movies also. I think he probably will be a really good actor as well. So I think he probably will take that route. I don’t know, he’s got a very competitive spirit in him, so hopefully we see him fight for a few more years. But what if not? What if he gets injured,” Rutten said. “Boom. I mean there’s nothing compared to it. I mean, you look at Jon Jones who’s a phenomenal athlete, who by the way also has to wait until he comes back, and he draws good pay-per-view numbers, but not what McGregor and Rousey are doing. They need another person. And the only other person that’s there, is Brock Lesnar. And that’s why I’m thinking they’ll go after him.”

‘Jacare’ Souza: ‘Yoel Romero is The Dirty Fighter & Michael Bisping is The Chicken’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBWxXCDUJLY

One day after calling former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title holder Luke Rockhold a “chicken,” Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza has taken things a step further. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion is now targeting reigning 185-pound champion Michael Bisping, and likely contender Yoel Romero.

Speaking with MMAJunkie.com, “Jacare” said he believes “The Count” will defend his belt against “The Soldier of God.” He didn’t speak highly of either fighter:

“I believe (Bisping vs. Romero) will happen. The dirty one, because Romero is a dirty fighter, against the chicken, the scared one – Bisping. So it will be kind of a weird fight. The dirty (fighter) against the chicken. I believe this will be the fight.”

Whether Souza was referring to Romero’s tainted supplement incident or his cage antics is up for debate.

Souza may have had harsh words for Bisping and Romero, but he was respectful of his next opponent Tim Boetsch. Souza will go toe-to-toe with “The Barbarian” at UFC 208 in Brooklyn, NY. “Jacare” is aware of Boetsch’s dangerous punching power.

“My opponent is trouble. He has a very hard hand – it can make it difficult for any opponent. His hook makes it tough. He’s very strong and his wrestling is very good, as well. So to sum it all up, he’s trouble.”

Many questioned why Boetsch was booked to fight Souza. With higher ranked fighters such as Gegard Mousasi and Robert Whittaker, “The Barbarian” was the last opponent fans expected for “Jacare.” Souza said the options were limited.

“My idea was to fight – that was my goal. I accepted everyone that was offered to me, and I accepted Boetsch. So it was kind of, I had to accept. There’s only that option.”

UFC 208 will be held inside the Barclays Center on Feb. 11. The main event will feature the inaugural women’s featherweight title fight between Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie.

If you’ve ever watched a submission ace like Joe Lauzon work inside the Octagon and wondered how he did the things he did, you are in luck.

Rener and Ryron Gracie do an excellent job of breaking down the finer parts to a submission fighter in their “Gracie Breakdown” segments.

Going under the microscope for this edition is a 2012 win by Lauzon over Jamie Varner. Lauzon faces Marcin Held Sunday night at UFC Fight Night 103.
