Ciryl Gane reflects on home robbery during UFC Paris he did a great job

Former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane has claimed the robber who stole more than $160,000 worth of goods including a Rolex watch from his apartment while he competed at UFC Fight Night Paris earlier this month “did a great job” on his home.

Gane, a former interim heavyweight champion under the banner of the Dana White-led banner, headlined UFC Paris earlier this month in his native France, landing his second victory on home soil with a second round TKO win over Sergei Spivak in the pair’s main event clash.

However, whilst competing at the Accor Arena, Gane and his family were the victims of a home invasion – with his apartment vanalized and robbed of more than $160,000 worth of goods, including a Rolex watch and other items of jewellery.

Ciryl Gane claims the robber “did a great job” vandalizing his apartment during UFC Paris

Having filed a police report the following morning, Gane has since opened up on the traumatic event, claiming the person who broke into the apartment “did a great job” as far as planning is concerned

“It’s not only my country, I suppose you have this everywhere in the world, but yeah, in my country, unfortunately, when you are a little bit famous now – you see in MMA in France, everybody talks about that, and everybody can see how much I can win,” Ciryl Gane told MMA Fighting. “So yeah, he did a great job because he waited [until my] fight, the last fight. He waited the night and he went out [to my] home and he did some bullsh*t.”

“My wife saw that at first, because he did it around 8 p.m., and so she went back to the babysitter, she dropped the girls and she came back, and when she came back she found all of the [chaos] at the home,” Ciryl Gane explained. “But she keeps that [from me], and after, when we went to bed after the fight, she told me unfortunately, but she did really good because I saw nothing, I saw nothing about [it before my fight]. This can be really traumatising for the girls if they [saw it]. You get hurt sometimes, some stories about, It’s not fun, it’s really not fun. So, yes, my wife has some traumatising [sic], but she’s okay, and we’re going to fix that.”

‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas‘ move to flyweight has been heavily criticized by a plethora of fighters and fans. You can now add former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson to that ever-growing list.

Despite capturing the strawweight title on two separate occasions and owning two wins over the division’s current queen, Zhang Weili, Rose Namajunas opted to move from 115 to 125 for her long-awaited return at UFC Paris on Saturday. She immediately jumped into the flyweight fire, taking on No. 2 ranked contender Manon Fiorot in the co-main event of the evening.

Namajunas came up short, suffering a unanimous decision defeat with many suggesting that the sheer size difference between the two women played the biggest factor.

“I thought Fiorot was just the bigger fighter and all of her shots had a lot more impact on Rose,” Thomson said on his Weighing In podcast. “I feel like Rose Namajunas is sabotaging her career. Like, what are you doing? She is so talented, and you are considered to be one of the best in the 115-pound division. Why are you going up?

“Maybe it was for one fight — I hope you go back down,” he continued. “You could be the champ again. I mean, if you wanna get motivated, stay motivated, whatever it is. I just feel like she’s sabotaging herself. She doesn’t know how to handle this success or she just doesn’t want to have success around her” (h/t MMA Mania).

Namajunas Snaps Back at Manon Fiorot’s Post-Fight Comments

Rose Namajunas’ UFC Paris opponent, Manon Fiorot, echoed similar sentiments during her post-fight interview.

“I’m pretty sure she wanted to wrestle me, but for her, it’s impossible to take me down,” Fiorot said. “I think it’s not her category. The flyweights are too strong for her.”

With criticism flying at her from every direction, Rose Namajunas snapped back in a video clip shared by her manager.

“I’m not too small for Flyweight — there’s no way,” a fired-up Namajuas claimed. “I dropped her a**. How am I too small? Maybe I had some moments where I was, like, stumbling over, or I wasn’t totally in position. But I’m like, ‘Dude, you felt no stronger than Weili. You felt no stronger than Weili, and I beat her a** twice.’ So shut the f*ck up. I’m not too small for flyweight.

“You can say anything else,” she added. “You can say you beat me on points, okay? But you can’t say I’m too small for flyweight. And you can’t say that I didn’t win a round because I for sure won at least one round if not two. But, that’s up for debate, right?”

Gane, the current number two ranked heavyweight contender, headlined UFC Paris on Saturday night in a France homecoming for the former interim champion, landing a comprehensive victory over Moldovan grappler, Sergei Spivak, turning in an eventual second round TKO victory.

However, during his outing, according to French outlet, Le Parisien, Ciry, Gane was the subject of a burglary, with his apartment building in Nogent-sur-Marne targeted in the raid on Saturday night.

Responding to a call at 7:30 am local time, French police detailed as per the report how the perpetrators in question are believed to have forced their way into Gane’s apartment through the front door of the premises, and have stolen an estimated $160,000 in good, including a Rolex watch and other jewellery items.

Yet to speak publicly on the situation, Ciryl Gane managed to rebound to the winner’s enclosure on Saturday night in front of a raucous Accor Arena crowd, landing a second round TKO victory over the abov-mentioned, Spivak.

The win came as the former interim heavyweight champion’s first of the year, after he had dropped a dominant opening round guillotine choke submission loss against incumbent heavyweight best, Jon Jones in the pair’s vacant title fight back in March at UFC 295.

Off the back of the victory, Ciryl Gane, who was called out by Atherton native, Tom Aspinall, laid out his plans to land another heavyweight championship pursuit in the near future

“I know he (Tom Aspinall) called out my name, but that’s perfectly normal in this position,” Ciryl Gane told at the UFC post-fight show after his win in Paris. “He wants to go up [in the rankings]. But, me too. You know what I mean? So, I did a mistake, it was my first real mistake unfortunately and the people were a little bit hard with me, it was a little bit painful. But tonight, I proved with all the pressure I have, I did very great and I proved it … and I want to go back to the belt, for sure.”

Ciryl Gane responds to Tom Aspinall after UFC Paris win I want to go for the belt

Former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane has admitted that it’s perfectly normal for surging division challenger, Tom Aspinall to call for a fight with him following his victorious return at UFC Paris over the weekend, however, he insists he wants to make a return to the championship in the near future.

Headlining the promotion’s second-ever visit to the French capital, former interim heavyweight kingpin, Gane, the current number two ranked division challenger – took main event honors against common-foe, Sergei Spivak at the Accor Arena.

Attempting to bounce back to the winner’s enclosure following a one-sided guillotine choke submission loss to Jon Jones in the very first round of their UFC 285 headliner back in March in a vacant heavyweight title tilt, Gane made very short work of Moldovan foe, Spivak.

Forcing a second round stoppage at the Octagon fence, a calculated while aggressive Gane laid out brutal punishment to the body of Spivak, pinning him to a corner and unloading strikes as he attempted to cover up – forcing an eventual stoppage in the action

And addressing a callout from Atherton native, Aspinall – who also called out number one ranked contender, Sergei Pavlovich – Gane insisted he was well-aware of the British fighter’s intention to clash with him next.

“I know he (Tom Aspinall) called out my name, but that’s perfectly normal in this position,” Ciryl Gane told at the UFC post-fight show after his win in Paris. “He wants to go up [in the rankings]. But tonight, I proved with all the pressure I have, I did very great and I proved it … and I want to go back to the belt, for sure.”

“This is a new era for the heavyweight division and you have to have some big movement,” Ciryl Gane explained. “We’re waiting for the big title fight with two GOATS (Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic), maybe they’re going to retire. So for me, the good way to go back [and see how everything plans out]. It was my mission tonight to shine, to prove I’m still here and I want to go back to the belt. So, we will see, we will see for the moment.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Former undisputed strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas fell to defeat in her flyweight divisional bow last night in the co-main event of UFC Paris, however, early in the bout the ex-titleholder complained of a hand issue suffered in the bout – sharing images of a rather nasty and gruesome injury to her smallest finger on her right hand.

Namajunas a former undisputed strawweight champion under the banner of the promotion, co-headlined UFC Paris last night against promotional-perfect contender, Fiorot – dropping a comprehensive unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) loss to the Nice native over the course of three rounds.

The defeat came as Wisconsin native, Namajunas’ second on the trot, having most recently dropped her strawweight crown in a title rematch against inaugural champion, Carla Esparza back in May of last year – in an admittedly forgettable championship fight.

Coached by long-time partner and former UFC heavyweight contender, Pat Barry during last night’s French outing, Namajunas complained of discomfort in her right hand at the close of the opening round of her bout with Fiorot, appearing to suffer an injury.

And following her decision loss to the bloodied Fiorot – photos of Namajunas’ hand injury in detail were posted across social media.

“This is how Rose Namajunas’ right hand looked last night when she took off her gloves,” Ariel Helwani posted on X. “The injury happened in the first.”

As for Fiorot, the surging French contender has called her shot at the flyweight crown next, eyeing a title showdown against the victor of the upcoming Noche UFC rematch between pound-for-pound number one, Alexa Grasso, and former champion, Valentina Shevchenko – which takes in two weeks’ time in Las Vegas.

As for Pavlovich, the streaking knockout artist most recently landed a first round TKO win of his own over common-foe, perennial contender, Curtis Blaydes back in April – earning the number one rank in the division and a post-fight Performance of the Night bonus to boot.

And staking his claim for a stunning heavyweight title fight against incumbent division best, Jon Jones after the Endicott native’s title defense return against former gold holder, Stipe Miocic in November at UFC 295 – Aspinall admitted he wants to land the number one rank in the weight class in a decider against Pavlovich.

“Sergei Pavlovich – very easy question – very, very easy question,” Tom Aspinall told Eurosport when asked who he would like to fight next after UFC Paris. “I want what he’s got. I want to be the number one contender.”

As for other contenders atop the heavyweight pile, former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane turned in another impressive victory in the main event of UFC Fight Night Paris last night – stopping a common-foe to Aspinall; Sergei Spivak with a dominant second round TKO win at the Octagon fence

For Pavlovich, while Atherton native, Aspinall wants to fight the streaking Russian, the former has been earmarked to serve as the official backup fighter to Jones’ return against Miocic at UFC 295 in November to boot.
