Jailton Almeida makes quick work of Alexandr Romanov with first-round RNC - UFC 302 Highlights

Jailton Almeida got back into the win column in a big way with a quick finish at UFC 302.

Three months removed from his brutal second-round knockout loss to Curtis Blaydes, ‘Malhadinho’ returned ready to make a statement against another submission specialist — Alexandr Romanov.

As expected, Almeida moved in quickly and took ‘King Kong’ down with ease. From there, it was just a matter of time. After an initial attempt to choke his opponent out, Almeida was able to sneak his arm under Romanov’s chin the second time around, forcing the Moldovan to tap out.

Lerone Murphy dominates Edson Barboza, stays undefeated with unanimous decision win - UFC Vegas 92 Highlights

Manchester’s own Lerone Murphy delivered a star-making performance in the UFC Vegas 92 headliner on Saturday night.

Gunning for his first win against a ranked contender, Murphy was tasked with taking on Octagon icon and 35-fight veteran Edson Barboza inside The APEX in Las Vegas. From the get-go, Murphy had the advantage on the feet, forcing Barboza to bite on his feints and land at will with the right hand.

Murphy survived a scary moment in the waning seconds of the opening round when he ate a vicious upkick from Barboza that had him rocked and appeared to break his nose. Despite the moment of adversity, Murphy came back in round two and delivered a near-perfect fight for the next four rounds. After five rounds of action, Murphy had outstruck ‘Junior’ 259 to 79. On top of that, ‘The Miracle’ landed four of six takedowns clocking more than five minutes of control time.

Needless to say, Murphy ran away with it on the scorecards, bagging his 14th career victory and sixth win under the UFC banner.

Official Result: Lerone Murphy def. Edson Barboza via unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45)

Hype train derailed! Robelis Despaigne suffers decisive loss against Waldo Cortes-Acosta - UFC St. Louis Highlights

Cuban MMA standout Robelis Despaigne suffered the first setback of his mixed martial arts career following a lackluster performance at UFC St. Louis.

‘The Big Boy’ entered his Saturday night clash with ‘Salsa Boy’ Waldo Cortes-Acosta with a perfect 5-0 record with all of those wins coming by way of knockout in the opening round. Unfortunately, Despaigne could not deliver another highlight-reel knockout — or much of anything else for that matter.

Looking for another quick finish, Despaigne instead found himself taken down and put on his back for much of the bout. Cortes-Acosta offered little in the way of offense, but his nearly 10 minutes of control time was more than enough to earn him the win on all three judges’ scorecards.
