While the main event between Arman Tsarukyan and Mateusz Gamrot stole the show to close out UFC Vegas 57, one of the night’s most impressive performances came courtesy of the co-main event.

Shavkat Rahkmonov has quickly made a name for himself as one of the most promising fighters in the UFC’s welterweight division since joining the promotion in 2020. He made short work of his first 3 UFC opponents, but many felt that his matchup with veteran Neil Magny in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 57 would be his first real test.

“The Haitian Sensation” was able to survive on his back and briefly looked for a leg lock at one point, but overall, the 34-year-old was largely dominated by Rakhmonov. The end came in the second round when “Nomad” locked up a late guillotine choke and forced a tap from Magny just seconds before the bell.

Rakhmonov was asked at the post-fight press conference if he had been aware of how much time was left and changed his approach to the choke, but the 27-year-old claims the tap was all on Magny.

“Yeah, I had a good grip, I was confident in it, but since it was (only a little) time left, I was expecting Neil to defend it,” Rakhmonov said. “But maybe after two rounds of beating, he didn’t want to continue. But usually, with this grip, I need seven or eight seconds to put someone to sleep.”

“Nomad” picked up a Performance of the Night bonus for his work and improved his pro record to 17-0. Magny very nearly took the 27-year-old to the third round for the first time in the UFC, but so far no one in his career has managed to go the distance with him.

Rakhmonov was the UFC’s #15-ranked welterweight heading into this bout and called out former title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in his post-fight interview.

What do you make of Rakhmonov’s thoughts on Magny tapping just before the end of the round in their fight?

Lightweight GOAT Khabib Nurmagomedov had a few respectful words with Mateusz Gamrot following his victory over Arman Tsarukyan at UFC Vegas 57.

Gamrot defeated Tsarukyan via unanimous decision in what was a highly technical, back-and-forth affair between two of the lightweight division’s best grapplers.

Tsarukyan took the advantage in the opening rounds, landing a series of devastating body kicks and a spinning backfist that floored Gamrot briefly. But Gamrot hit his stride in the later rounds, landing several takedowns and taking Tsarukyan’s back on two occasions.

The win was former Gamrot’s fourth in a row, having previously finished Carlos Diego Ferreira, Jeremy Stephens and Scott Holtzman. The 31-year-old Pole has tasted defeat just once in his 22-fight career, having lost a split decision to Guram Kutateladze on his UFC debut in 2020.

Gamrot Reveals What Khabib Said Post Fight

Following his victory, he happened to run into the man who defeated Gaethje not so long ago, former UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had earlier cornered his cousin, Umar, during his victory over Nate Maness.

At the UFC Vegas 57 post-fight press conference, Gamrot revealed what Khabib had to say, and shared what he believes his path to the title will look like.

“Khabib say me ‘congratulations on your fight, you are a nice guy. For sure in the future you meet with Islam [Makhachev] in fight.’ So I keep fingers crossed for Islam…I think Islam beats Charles Oliveira next fight and I want to have my next fight with Justin [Gaethje], and then the next fight [after that] with Islam. Simple plan,” said Gamrot.

Gamrot, a former KSW lightweight champ, now has his sights firmly set on the lightweight division’s best, having called out #3 ranked Justin Gaethje in his Octagon interview.

What do you think? Will Mateusz Gamrot and Islam Makhachev lock horns in the near future?

The UFC didn’t go crazy with handing out bonuses for UFC Vegas 57 like they did at UFC 275 and UFC Austin, but 3 different fighters earned Performance of the Night bonuses to go along with Fight of the Night.

The final 4 bouts of the night ended up accounting for the extra money, starting with Thiago Moisés’ submission victory over Christos Giagos.

Moisés entered the night on a two-fight losing streak but put on a convincing performance when he took Giagos’s back and forced a tap just over 3 minutes into the fight.

A heavyweight bout followed Moisés’s victory, with American Josh Parisian taking on Frenchman Alan Baudot. While it wasn’t the most technical fight, Parisian was able to weather an early storm in order get a second-round TKO and also snag a Performance of the Night bonus.

The night’s final Performance of the Night was awarded to Shavkat Rakhmonov for his submission win against veteran Neil Magny. One of the UFC’s hottest prospects, Rakhmonov was largely able to handle Magny the same way he had his previous 3 UFC opponents.

Magny survived a few difficult positions but “Nomad” eventually proved to be too much and secured a guillotine choke that the veteran tapped to just before the end of the second round. Rakhmonov maintains not only his undefeated record but also his streak of never having gone the distance as a pro.

The main event was likely the most anticipated fight on the card, and it delivered with a clear Fight of the Night performance. Arman Tsarukyan looked strong through the first two rounds before Mateusz Gamrot gained momentum as the fight went on.

The former KSW champion ultimately walked away with a unanimous decision win, though many felt that Tsarukyan was deserving of the victory. Scorecards aside, both lightweights put on a tremendous show, and each earned an extra $50K for their efforts.
