There’s been a lot of talk recently about the UFC being up for sale. Multiple credible sources reported that the promotion was up for grabs at a hefty price tag of four billion US dollars, but UFC president Dana White shot down the reports soon after. Yet still news continues to emerge about a potential buyer from China, and even wild reports that Shane McMahon of the WWE will be taking over as president of the UFC.

So what would happen if the UFC sold? Potentially with the Muhammad Ali act being pushed through congress towards MMA as a sport, the days of the Zuffa brand ball-and-chaining their fighters is going to be coming to an end very soon. Maybe right now would be the best and most profitable time for the Fertittas to exit as UFC owners, but what would the impact be on the promotion as a whole?

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz shared his opinion on the UFC being for sale, and the probably accurate assumption that Dana White would probably retire if the company changed hands. As per MMAFighting.com:

Last week in an interview with RJ Clifford and Steve Cofield on SiriusXM Rush Fight Club, Ortiz spoke about the possibility of a UFC sale:

“I think the promotion would completely fail. I think it would crash and burn, that’s my opinion. I think Dana does a great job with the promotion. Sometimes we don’t agree on the same things but that’s just between me and him. Like I say, it’s a girlfriend-boyfriend type of relationship, him being the girlfriend of course.”

“Dana does a great job with what he does and that’s why the company is worth four billion dollars. Lorenzo [Fertitta] has stepped in and is doing an amazing job – from stepping down from Station Casinos – for what he does now. And giving the opportunity to Cris, I’m very thankful for that. But at the end of the day this is a business to them and if they’re able to sell it off for four billion, do what’s needed. I gave my heart and soul, blood, sweat, and tears to the company. I’ve gone on with my business and that’s the way it is.”

Dana Ortiz

It’s no secret that White and Ortiz don’t see eye-to-eye, and they came close to having a boxing match once, before ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ no-showed. The former champion once famously wore a shirt bearing the slogan ‘Dana is my bitch,’ and was later dumped by the promotion in a rather sour ending.

“I think if the Chinese company didn’t bring Dana in it would crash and burn. It would be a lost cause but I guess it’s up to Dana to make those decisions.”

“This is the last fight on my contract, it’s the last fight that I want to compete. I’m 41 years old. I was supposed to be retired and done with this business at 40. Nineteen years I think is good enough for me. So let’s go out with a bang. Let’s go out with one of the biggest names in the world of mixed martial arts.

“Royce Gracie is here, he’s competing. He just stopped Ken Shamrock super quick. I think that would be a fun fight. I got caught with a submission by a black belt, Liam McGearyRoyce Gracie’s a black belt. Can he catch me? That’s a question. We’re both old pioneers of the sport, legends of the sport. I think the names would sell. Let’s give the fans something exciting.”

[VIDEO] Donald Cerrone and Benson Henderson Bromance One Another at the UFC Fight Night 59 Media Day

(Props: MMAFightingonSBN)

Between “Hey pussy, are you still there?” and “Kiss them feet Nazi,” it’s easy to think that all UFC fighters hate each other, or at least feign enough hate to sell some tickets. Donald Cerrone and Benson Henderson proved otherwise during their staredown at the UFC Fight Night 59 media day yesterday. Let’s timestamp the awesomeness:

0:04 – Cerrone steps into frame and excitedly claps his hands and stomps his foot because he’s just so damn excited to see his buddy Benson again. They embrace like two long-lost friends.

0:10 – Dana White reminds them they’re here to promote a fight and tells them to square off. Cerrone, who’s already four inches taller than Henderson, gets up on his toes, and Henderson just smiles and laughs because his buddy Donald is such a clown.

0:15 – Dana tells them to “face forward, shoulder to shoulder,” and Cerrone takes the command as literally as possible, then starts nudging at Henderson like a young boy pestering his older brother. Cerrone, wearing a soon-to-be-banned Budweiser shirt, announces that “rounds are on ‘Cowboy’ after this fight.”

0:21 – Henderson grabs Cerrone’s cowboy hat — which might cheese the latter in another circumstance, but this is his boy Benson — so Cerrone returns the favor and grabs Henderson big knit cap. They put on each other’s hats, and the crowd (and media?) is just eating this shit up.

0:35 – They return each other’s respective hat, and Cerrone goes full McConaughey, telling Henderson, “See you on the other side.” These guys, man.

If you don’t understand why this interaction is so special, go back and watch Henderson and Cerrone’s first two fights from WEC 43 and WEC 48.

UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz Extended Preview — “A Fighter With No Fear Meets a Legend With No Limits”

(Props: UFC on YouTube)

For a UFC non-title fight, Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz is as big as it gets. This UFC 183 extended trailer doesn’t contain much in the way of trash-talk or snappy soundbites, but it’s a nice reminder that, holy crap, this fight is actually happening at the end of the month. The video also does a good job of giving importance to the UFC 183 co-main event of Kelvin Gastelum vs. Tyron Woodley — the young rookie with a heart of iron vs. the dynamic veteran who’s truly scary when he’s firing on all cylinders.

Speaking of Gastelum and Woodley, the UFC has released videos of their most recent dominant wins, which you can watch after the jump. Enjoy…

Watch the UFC 182 Extended Preview Because Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier Hate Each Other and Myles Jury Is Out of Lollipops or Something

(Props: UFC on YouTube)

And here we have the nine-minute extended video trailer for UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier, which goes down January 3rd in Las Vegas. The verbal beefin’ between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is nothing new, but hey, there’s more of it here. Plus, we get a segment on the lightweight co-main between undefeated 26-year-old Myles Jury and red-hot veteran Donald Cerrone. Myles Jury kind of seems like a real-life version of that “bring a rocket-launcher” guy from the NOS commercials. As for Cerrone…well, you already know who that dude is.

UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier — The Official “Hey Pussy, Are You Still There?” Trailer [VIDEO]

(Props: MiddleEasy)

I don’t know what else to call this thing. It incorporates so much about Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier‘s rivalry — the aggressive trash-talk, the infamous casino lobby brawl, the MMA quote of the year. After their long-awaited light-heavyweight title fight was postponed the first time due to Jones suffering an injury, it’s finally going to happen at UFC 182, January 3rd in Las Vegas.

Watch the official trailer above, which aired Saturday night during UFC 181, and get appropriately hyped.

UFC 179 Videos: Aldo vs. Mendes Highlights, Conor McGregor and Anderson Silva Are Called Out + More

(Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes UFC 179 highlights, via UFC on FOX)

In case you missed the action on Saturday night, check out this video recap of the five-round war between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes at UFC 179 in Rio. Aldo came out of the fight looking worse for the wear, but took four out of five rounds on all three judges scorecards.

Below: Aldo and Mendes are interviewed after the bout, and the champ discusses the late-punches controversy at the end of round 1. Aldo lands a great diss on Conor McGregor — “I’m the king, Chad’s the prince, and now we have a joker” — while Mendes just promises to kick McGregor’s ass.

And speak of the devil…

Conor McGregor gives his thoughts on the fight and gives respect to both men for a “phenomenal contest.” But of course, he could beat either of them and thinks he’s next in line for a title shot.

Anderson Silva arrives at the arena to a hero’s welcome.

Highlights from the Phil Davis vs. Glover Teixeira co-main event (such as they are)…
