Round 1: Walt Harris is pushing forward and tries to throw a big punch. Alistair Overeem ducks out the way well. The Dutch fighter throws a lovely spinning back kick to the body. Harris lands a huge combination to drop Overeem. He’s on top reigning down massive strikes. Harris is unleashing punches for almost a minute but Overeem is staying in the fight and the referee is letting the fight continue. He eventually creates a scramble and works his way back to the feet – WOW that was so close to being over. Overeem manages to get the takedown and lands on the back of Harris. There is so much time for Overeem to work. He’s landing constant shots over and over again. Overeem is hammering down shots as the clock ticks down, Harris has just got to survive now. Ten seconds left Harris tries to stand up but eats two big knees to the body for his troubles as the horn sounds.

Round 2: One minute into round two and both fighters look to be taking their time after an explosive first round. Overeem lands a huge head kick followed by a right hand to drop Harris. The former heavyweight title challenger takes the back and begins hammering in strikes in an identical spot to what we saw in round one. Harris is flattened out completely now taking consistent heavy shots and referee Dan Miragliotta has to step in and wave off the fight.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Alistair Overeem def. Walt Harris via TKO (strikes) in round two.

LowKickMMA Will be bringing you UFC Florida results throughout tonight (Sat. 16th May, 2020) from Jacksonville, Florida.

In the main event of the evening, Alistair Overeem will attempt to get back into the winning column by defeating rising knockout artist Walt Harris in a five-round bout at heavyweight. The two were scheduled to face off last year but unfortunately, Harris had to withdraw due to personal issues seeing Jairzinho Rozenstruik take his place. Rozenstruik ended up defeating Overeem by knockout in the 5th round. This will be Harris’s return to the octagon following the tragic passing of his stepdaughter that saw him withdraw from the originally scheduled date. Harris is entering this bout with three wins and one draw in his last four fights with all those wins coming via way of KO/TKO.

Overeem Harris

In the UFC on ESPN 8 main event, two top tier heavyweights will throw down inside the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Former UFC title challenger Alistair Overeem will be hoping to back from his fifth-round knockout loss against Jairzinho Rozenstruik last time out. He’ll face Walt Harris who returns to fight for the first time since tragically losing his stepdaughter late last year. ‘The Big Ticket’ is currently riding a two-fight win streak into the bout but hasn’t actually suffered a legitimate loss since falling short against Fabricio Werdum in October 2017.

Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris – LowKickMMA Staff Predictions

Jordan Ellis: I’m picking Walt Harris in this one. I’m impressed by his recent form and if he can land big early I think he’ll get the job done. However, if he is not able to close the show quickly I begin leaning towards Alistair Overeem who has all the tools to make this a difficult night for ‘The Big Ticket’.

Prediction: Walt Harris

Abhinav Kini: As much as it would be fitting and inspirational for Walt Harris to get the win, I just see Alistair Overeem being the superior fighter in just about every regard. There’s always the possibility of his chin getting cracked, but I see more chances in him getting the win via unanimous decision.

Prediction: Alistair Overeem

Ryan Galloway: I believe this is going to be a similar match up to the bout between Overeem and Rozenstruik and so Walt Harris is going to have to find that big knockout punch to close the show and get the victory. While it could happen I believe taking from Overeems last few performances he will be able to weather the storm early and get a decision win or late stoppage.

Prediction: Alistair Overeem

Heavyweight contender Walt Harris will fight tonight for the first time since the tragic death of his stepdaughter Aniah Blanchard. ‘The Big Ticket’ is set to face heavyweight legend Alistair Overeem in the main event at UFC on ESPN 8 which will take place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Harris is coming into the fight on a two-fight win streak and hasn’t had a legitimate loss since falling short against Fabricio Werdum in October 2017. His latest win came in a spectacular 12-second knockout of Aleksei Oleinik who coincidentally beat the former heavyweight champion Werdum at UFC 249 last week.

Since his win over the Russian submission specialist Harris and his family have endured the worst tragedy anyone could imagine. His stepdaughter Aniah went missing and after a long search, her remains were found and identified on November 27, 2019. The autopsy revealed the 19-year-old had died from a single gunshot wound. Ibraheem Yazeed has since been arrested and charged with kidnapping and murder if convicted he faces the death penalty.

Walt Harris Will Fight For Aniah At UFC on EPSN 8

Speaking to TMZ Sports ahead of his fight against Overeem, Harris talked about his return to fighting and how he plans to make his stepdaughter proud with his performance tonight.

“I love her so much, and I’m going to make her proud,” Harris said. “There will probably be some tears shed, I’ll go ahead and let ya’ll know right now.”

“It’s proof that you can go through the worst thing you can possibly think of in your life, and bounce back,” Harris said. “I’m so grateful to the UFC, and to the fans, and everybody who’s supported me through all of this. And, that’s kinda been my motivation, that’s why I want to go in there and put a show on for them Saturday night and say thank you.”

“I’m at peace, man. I love her so much, and I’m going to make her proud Saturday night.”
