Daniel Cormier seems to already have plans in place for his life after mixed martial arts (MMA).

“DC” has been very vocal about planning on retiring from MMA in 2019. He will fight Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 230 next month (Sat. November 3, 2018). It will be Cormier’s first UFC heavyweight title defense of his career. Per a report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, FOX is interested in retaining Cormier after their relationship with the UFC is finished.

The UFC will begin airing on ESPN next year, ending their longtime broadcasting deal with FOX. In turn, WWE has signed over the broadcasting rights to their SmackDown Live program to FOX. It’s reported that FOX would like to have Cormier as part of the program’s commentary team to give it a more “sporty” vibe.

Recently, Cormier spoke to reporters at a UFC 230 media event. He revealed that he actually postponed a WWE audition for his fight with Lewis at Madison Square Garden (via MMA Fighting):

“If I didn’t have this fight, I have been talking to the WWE, because they wanted me to go in and do an audition as a member of the commentary team,” Cormier said.

“That was my private little thing. But because of the fight, I had to push it back. So there might be some DC in WWE shit coming.”

As for his responsibilities as a UFC commentator, Cormier doesn’t plan on stepping away from the broadcast booth. Should he sign with WWE, Cormier said he never wants to leave his “home” in the UFC:

“[WWE is] new. It’s something new, right? This is home. Over there is new. And most times, new is fun and exciting. But I love being home. This is my place. I love the UFC.”

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey didn’t get a chance to watch UFC 229, but she sure hasn’t missed the aftermath.

Now WWE Raw Women’s Champion, Rousey recently spoke to TMZ on the now-infamous UFC 229 melee. She was accompanied by her husband and former Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Travis Browne. As usual, Rousey wasn’t afraid to say her piece.

Rousey’s UFC 229 Thoughts

“I understand promoting fights and having to sell them,” said Rousey. “I really do, I get it. But I don’t think people have to get arrested in order to do that. I think I’ve been able to prove that you can make a fight exciting and make people really wanna see it without crossing any legal lines.

“But I’m glad it was a great match. I’m sorry it’s kind of soured by the aftermath. Their performances aren’t going to get enough credit because of what happened and I really hope it doesn’t become an ongoing trend. I want people to feel safe bringing their kids to fights.”

Its impossible to point the finger at one person. Yes, Khabib Nurmagomedov lept over the cage and pandemonium ensued, but as Khabib pointed during the post-fight press conference his actions were a direct result of months of disrespect from Conor McGregor.

The lack of punishment by the UFC is another area of discontent. Rousey believes the Brooklyn bus incident was a far greater offense. One that essentially went unchecked by the UFC.

Rousey On Equal Treatment

“I think that Khabib jumping out of the octagon was not as bad as throwing objects at a bus because my friend Rose Namajunas was on that bus. My friend, Michael Chiesa, missed his fight because [he suffered an injured from broken glass],” said Rousey. “So I just feel like there has to be equal treatment all the way across the board. I don’t think that anyone should get special treatment because they’re a bigger draw.

“I think that’s the same when it comes to performance-enhancing drugs when it comes to felonies when it comes to hit and runs or anything like that, I think there’s too much preferential treatment given to high-profile fighters. There needs to be equal discipline across the board because people are going to start thinking that once they get to a certain level then the rules don’t apply for them.”

Nurmagomedov’s $2 million dollar fight purse is still being withheld by the Nevada State Athletic Commision pending a full investigation. However, McGregor did receive his $3 million dollar payday. Although both men were issued temporary suspensions pending the completion of the NSAC’s investigation.

“I would be much more strict about everything. I say you get popped for steroids once, you’re banned for life. You know, but then again I’m not the promoter of a multi-million dollar organization. It’s just – you have to think about, you know, from their perspective when is it not worth it anymore? I don’t want the company to be prioritizing this quarter over the next 10 years.

“I don’t want it to get to the point where people are not buying tickets to go see fights live, because they are afraid of what could happen in the arena.”

Khabib Hints At “Smashing Lesnar” In WWE “Fake Fights”

Khabib could be considering a jump to WWE for a “fake fight” with Brock Lesnar.

Khabib Nurmagomedov looks to be serious about being willing to leave the UFC.

We all know about the post-UFC 229 melees that broke out after Khabib’s victory over Conor McGregor last week (Sat. October 6, 2018). Khabib’s teammate, who was involved in the brawl and attacked McGregor, was removed from his scheduled fight with Artem Lobov.

There’s speculation that he could also be cut from the UFC. This does not sit well with “The Eagle.” He recently took to social media and threatened to leave the UFC if the promotion released his teammate. He added fuel to the fire this morning (Fri. October 12, 2018) on Twitter.

The Russian teased a possible WWE career next. Khaib mentioned Brock Lesnar in the post, suggesting he’d like to “smash” the former UFC heavyweight champion in a ‘fake fight’:

ask me to jump inside. What do you think guys?”

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters have had a tendency of moving on to WWE recently. Names such as Shayna Baszler, Matt Riddle, and of course, Ronda Rousey come to mind. Lesnar is also a notable name in the bunch, however, he began with WWE before going to UFC.

He now seemingly works for both companies whenever he sees fit – making millions in the process. A possible professional wrestling career for “The Eagle” would certainly be an interesting avenue to explore.
