Eight fighters joined UFC® President Dana White at the UFC® on FOX post-fight press conference – Benson Henderson, Gilbert Melendez, Daniel Cormier, Josh Thomson, Matt Brown, TJ Dillashaw, Chad Mendes, and Joseph Benavidez.
Brown and opponent Jordan Mein earned Fight of the Night for their main card-opening battle. After an exciting, back-and-forth first round, Brown landed a series of knees and punches that dropped his young opponent, forcing the referee to step in and wave off the fight.
In a night that saw a record-tying eight knockout victories, a double Knockout of the Night bonus was awarded to Thomson and Yoel Romero. Romero, a Strikeforce® import making his Octagon debut, earned a first-round stoppage of Clifford Starks via flying knee in the opening bout. Thomson, a former Strikeforce® champ returning to the UFC® after an eight-year absence, handed Nate Diaz his first knockout loss with a second-round head kick finish.
With no submission victories occurring at UFC® on FOX, no Submission of the Night bonuses were handed out.
All bonused fighters received $50,000 for their efforts.
At the press conference’s conclusion, White announced that the winner of the UFC® 160 bout between Gray Maynard and TJ Grant will get the next shot at Henderson’s lightweight title.
