MMA Fighting brings you UFC on FUEL TV 10 play-by-play and more for the Nogueira vs. Werdum fight card. Tonight’s event is headlined by a fight between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum. This bout is scheduled for five, five-minute rounds. Also appearing on the main card is William Macario vs. Leonardo Santos, Thiago Silva vs. Rafael Cavalcante, Erick Silva vs. Jason High, Daniel Sarafian vs. Eddie Mendez, and Rony Jason vs. Mike Wilkinson. Tonight’s fights take place at the Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Antonio Braga Neto vs. Anthony Smith

Round 1: Marc Goddard is our referee for this opening middleweight bout. Looping right hook for Braga Neto connects first. Braga Neto bulldozes inside with a combination. Braga Neto lunges inside again, but this time Smith catches him with a left. Braga Neto finds a home for a leg kick then shoots in for a double. Smith sprawls but can’t defend. Braga Neto completes the takedown, briefly takes Smith’s back then switches to a heel hook in the ensuing scramble. Braga Neto transitions to a kneebar. Wow, gorgeous jiu-jitsu on display. Braga Neto cranks on it and Smith yelps in pain. That’s it.

Caio Magalhaes vs. Karlos Vemola

Round 1: Referee Dan Miragliotta oversees this middleweight bout. Magalhaes immediately changes levels for a double. Vemola sprawls and defends. Magalhaes hunts for a guillotine but eventually gives up against the fence. Magalhaes latches onto another guillotine. This one is tighter. Vemola powers out of it again and winds up in top position raining down beefy rights and lefts. Shorts elbows from Vemola. Magalhaes is taking a beating on bottom. Magalhaes throws up an armlock then transitions to an omoplata, but can’t secure anything. Vemola is relentless with his punches from the top. Vemola briefly moves into side control but Magalhaes takes the opportunity to scoot out and stand up. Magalhaes grasps for another guillotine only to wind up with his back on the canvas. Magalhaes stands, and almost immediately he hunts for yet another guillotine. This one might be the tightest so far. Vemola slams Magalhaes to the mat and muscles out. Furious pace. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Vemola.

Round 2: Magalhaes greets Vemola with a strong right hand. Vemola ties up against the fence. Magalhaes reverses and trips Vemola to the canvas, landing in full guard. Magalhaes quickly passes to half guard, then side control. Magalhaes takes Vemola’s back and unloads a salvo of punches. Miragliotta warns against punches to the back of the head. Magalhaes rolls and briefly grasps a head and arm choke. Vemola defends but can’t get away. Another scramble. Magalhaes retakes Vemola’s back. Magalhaes slithers in an arm and locks up a rear-naked choke. What a comeback.

Rodrigo Damm vs. Mizuto Hirota

Round 1: Mario Yamasaki is our referee for this featherweight tilt. Touch of gloves and we’re off. Left hook lands for Hirota. Stiff jab snaps Damm’s head back. And another. Hirota clips Damm and sends him reeling. Damm recovers then drops Hirota with a big right hand. Damm ties up against the fence, then drags Hirota to the mat. Hirota pops back to his feet and eventually gets some separation. Hirota wings a few straight punches to Damm’s midsection. Damm answers with a strong right. Wild overhand right misses. Hirota eats another big right. Both fighters relying on single punches instead of combinations. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Damm.

Round 2: Hirota bouncing around, light on feet. Damm eats a left and fires back. Counter one-two lands flush for Damm. Strong kick snaps into Hirota’s lead leg. Damm starting to find his rhythm. Overhand left connects. Another left. Hirota can’t seem to get anything going. Just as I type that, Hirota staggers Damm with a combination. Damm answers with a high kick. Damm pumps his jab. Damm changes levels for a single but can’t get it. Damm picking away with Hirota looking to counter. Tight round. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Damm.

Round 3: Solid exchange kicks off the round, with Damm getting the better of it. Damm dives for a single but Hirota sprawls to avoid. Hirota still relying on single straight punches instead of mixing things up. Damm eats a right hand and answers with his own. Damm unsuccessfully shoots in for a double. Wild overhand right nearly lands for Damm. Damm starting to pour it on a little bit, but nothing lands flush. Hirota staying busy. Hirota ties up but Damm just throws him away and fires off a leg kick. Hirota connects with a looping right. Damm lunges inside and suplexes Hirota to the canvas! Wow, where did that come from? Hirota takes a moment then explodes to his feet. Hirota pressures forward with a series of straight punches but it might be too little, too late. Ildemar Alcantara vs. Leandro Silva

Round 1: Referee Marc Goddard oversees this welterweight bout. Alcantara, clearly the much larger fighter, misses a high kick. Big knee staggers Silva. Alcantara stays patient and stalks forward. Alcantara slips and Silva dives into Alcantara’s guard. Alcantara works back to his feet, but Silva seizes a single. Alcantara successfully fights it off. Straight jab lands for Silva. Silva catches a kick and clings to it, looking for the takedown. Alcantara reverses and powers Silva to the canvas, landing inside his guard. Alcantara advances into half guard and rains down a few punches. The Brazilian crowd voices its displeasure at this ground battle. On cue, Alcantara stands and allows Silva to his feet. Silva hunts for a single at the horn. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Alcantara.

Round 2: Silva wades forward with a combination, followed by a leg kick. Alcantara responds with a one-two. Silva blocks a high kick. Alcantara does the same. Silva just can’t get inside that reach. More boos echo down from the crowd. Alcantara lunges forward with a flying knee to the midsection. Silva slips an uppercut then lowers his hands. Alcantara just backs away. Silva dives for a single and can’t get it. The Brazilian boobirds make themselves known once again. The pace has slowed significantly. Spinning wheel kick nearly connects for Alcantara. Silva shakes it off. Alcantara tosses out a few jabs. Silva trying his best Anderson Silva impression against the fence. Spinning wheel kick lands for Silva, but he slips to the mat just as the horn sounds. Slow, slow round. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Alcantara.

Round 3: Silva’s corner implored its fighter to turn up the heat during the break. Let’s see if he does. Alcantara still stalking forward. Silva dives for a single but Alcantara easily evades. Alcantara connects with an outside leg kick. The constant boos are just white noise at this point. Silva snatches another single. Alcantara hops around the cage to defend, then trips Silva to the canvas. Alcantara briefly stands, then lunges back into top position with a looping right. Silva works into butterfly guard and throws up a leglock attempt. Nothing gives. Silva plants an illegal upkick on Alcantara’s chin. Goddard deems it accidental and keeps the action going. Alcantara allows Silva up, then easily drags Silva back to the mat. Alcantara stands again. This crowd is not happy. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, and the fight 30-27, Alcantara.

Godofredo Pepey vs. Felipe Arantes

Round 1: Dan Miragliotta is our referee for this featherweight bout. Pepey and his purple hair wade forward winging looping punches. Pepey latches onto a single against the fence, then trips Arantes down and takes his back. Arantes reverses and winds up in top position. Arantes postures up and unloads a few short punches. Pepey fires back with elbows from the bottom. Big elbow from Arantes crushes into Pepey’s chin. Pepey hunts for a kimura, then uses the opportunity to sweep into mount. The Brazilian crowd explodes! Arantes stays patient and sweeps back into top position. Arantes postures up and unleashes a brutal salvo of shots. Oh man, Pepey is in trouble. Big series of elbows. Arantes is relentless. That’s it, this one is over.

Raphael Assuncao vs. Vaughan Lee

Round 1: Our referee for this final preliminary bout is Mario Yamasaki. Assuncao is the No. 6 ranked bantamweight on the UFC’s official rankings. Touch of gloves and we’re off. Lee opens with a leg kick. Assuncao charges inside and grabs a single. Lee defends and returns to the center of the cage. Straight right misses for Assuncao, followed by a flying knee. High kick misses for Lee, but he’s starting to find his range. Assuncao presses forward with a one-two. Assuncao muscles Lee against the fence. Lee breaks away and fires off a leg kick. Assuncao changes levels, picks Lee up and slams him to the canvas, landing in a high half guard. Assuncao frees his right leg and advances into side control. Assuncao climbs into mount. Thirty seconds left. Lee explodes to his knees but Assuncao still in control. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Assuncao.

Round 2: Lee stalking forward. Assuncao misses a high kick. Lee clinches, but Assuncao quickly reverses against the fence. A wide cut somehow opened across Assuncao’s forehead during the scramble. Assuncao trips Lee to the mat and deftly moves into full mount. Assuncao latches onto an arm and whirls into a belly-down armbar. Lee valiantly trying to defend. Assuncao slowly twists Lee around and pries the arm free. Super slick finish.
