UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will be honored by Long Island, N.Y., on Wednesday for his historic knockout of Anderson Silva at UFC 162.

Nassau County executive Edward P. Mangano will be joined by New York State Senator Dean Skelos and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray to proclaim July 17 “Chris Weidman day” in honor of Weidman’s achievement less than two weeks ago.

The undefeated Weidman, who currently lives in Baldwin, N.Y., on Long Island, is a former New York State champion wrestler at Baldwin High School, as well as an All-American at Nassau Community College and Hofstra University.
The ceremony will take place at Coral House on Long Island at 2:00 p.m. ET.
Weidman will defend the middleweight title for the first time against Silva at UFC 168 on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas.
