UFC announces dates, locations for five-country promotional world tour
The UFC has formalized the dates and times for the company’s first-ever promotional world tour.
Announced by UFC president Dana White at the UFC 162 press conference, the tour will promote the string of major pay-per-view events the company has planned to close out 2013: UFC 165, featuring light heavyweight champion Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson, on Sept. 21 at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre; UFC 166, featuring the trilogy fight between heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and former champ Junior dos Santos on Oct. 19 in Houston; UFC 167, featuring Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks for the former’s welterweight title on Nov. 16 in Las Vegas; and the blockbuster UFC 168, featuring rematches between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva and Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate, on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas.
The following is the schedule for the tour, which hits 11 cities in five countries. Events which are open to the public are noted, the rest are closed media events. All public events have free admission:
*July 29: Bay Area press tour with Velasquez and dos Santos
*July 29: Media day with St-Pierre and Hendricks, MGM Grand main lobby, Las Vegas. Open to the public
*July 30: Press conference at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles with Velasquez, dos Santos, Jones, Gustafsson, St-Pierre, Hendricks, Rousey, and Tate, open to the public
*July 31: Press conference at Beacon Theatre in New York with same fighters as Los Angeles, free and open to the public
*Aug 1: Press conference with St-Pierre and Hendricks, Complexe Desjardins, Montreal, open to the public
*Aug. 1: Open workouts for Velasquez and dos Santos, Toyota Center, Houston, open to the public
*Aug. 1: Press tour of Stockholm with Jones and Gustafsson
*Aug. 2: Open workouts at Cowboy Stadium with GSP and Hendricks, Cowboys Stadium, Dallas, open to the public
*Aug. 2: Press tour of London for Jones and Gustafsson
*Aug. 2: Press tour for Rousey and Tate, Chicago
*Aug. 2: Velasquez and dos Santos fan Q & A, HSBC Arena, Rio de Janeiro, open to the public
