Royce Gracie is not happy with the recent results of his family in MMA, but the future star of the clan could be in the hands of Kyra Gracie.
Kyra Gracie, the only women of the family to hold a black belt in jiu-jitsu, is not sold on the idea of fighting in the ring, and the “old-fashioned” legend does not like watching women’s MMA.
“I’m not a big fan, man,” Royce Gracie told MMAFighting.com. “Women are too feminine (to fight) in my opinion. But this is a free world and they can do whatever they want. Maybe I’m a little old-fashioned.”
“Kyra has talent, is tough, she only needs the discipline to train (MMA),” he continued. “It’s always a pleasure to watch a Gracie winning. We were born fighting. She has the whole package.”
Submission artist Ronda Rousey is the current bantamweight champion in the UFC’s women’s division, but Royce Gracie believes the multiple-time jiu-jitsu world champion has what it takes to dethrone the undefeated champion if she decides to fight MMA one day.
“She has more submissions, is more used to competition,” he said. “(Ronda Rousey) is good, she knows what she’s doing. (But) Kyra’s jiu-jitsu is better, with a gi or in MMA.”
