Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will undergo surgery to his left knee in the coming week to to replace both his anterior and posterior crucial ligaments. Lawal’s manager Ryan Parsons offered the update to Sherdog.com concerning the former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champ, saying that the fighter will be out for up to nine months.
Parsons noted that the injury occurred Saturday night in Lawal’s loss to newly crowned champ Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante.
Meanwhile, “King Mo” himself addressed the use of the O2 canisters just before his fight Saturday to both MMAjunkie.com and TheGarv.com.
“My manager and coaches approached the athletic commission before the fight and asked them about it. They said that it’s cool. The can is nothing but pure oxygen. It’s oxygen in a can. It’s like 95 percent oxygen. It’s like sucking in a little oxygen through a can. That’s it.”
…
“No effect, man,” he said of his O2 use during the fight. “People want to make a big deal about it, but it’s not a big deal. I used it in training camp for a week, (and) it helped me slow my heart rate down and focus my breathing – that’s about it. I could have done it without the oxygen can.”
In both interviews Lawal goes on to speak about the loss and what went wrong in his loss to Cavalcante.
