Lyoto Machida will return to training sooner than expected.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion told the media following a unanimous decision victory over Gegard Mousasi on Saturday night, in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil, that he may have broken his left foot during UFC Fight Night 36.

However, “The Dragon” learned that he hasn’t broken his foot in the five-round fight after having X-rays in Rio de Janeiro on Monday afternoon.

“I believe I hurt my foot in the third round,” Machida told MMAFighting.com on Monday, when asked if the injury forced him to slow down during the fight.

“I stopped with the kicks, but I have other weapons that I used, but couldn’t finish the fight. (The injury) didn’t change the fight. That’s not an excuse.”

There’s no timetable for his return yet.
