Rory MacDonald highlighted a list of five fighters to incur extended medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 170, according to information released to MMAFighting.com by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday.
MacDonald, who defeated Demian Maia via unanimous decision in UFC 170’s ‘Fight of the Night,’ requires an x-ray on his right ankle as well as doctor’s clearance in order to return to action, otherwise he’ll face a mandatory suspension stretching until August 22, 2014.
Likewise for fellow main card fighters Stephen Thompson and Robert Whittaker, as well as preliminary card fighters Raphael Assuncao and Cody Gibson, as all four men received a similar suspension due to various injuries suffered during UFC 170, which took place February 22, 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.
The remaining seven fighters on the list all received precautionary suspensions, including UFC newcomer Patrick Cummins, who lost handily as a last-second replacement opposite Daniel Cormier in the night’s co-main event.

- Cody Gibson: Requires x-ray on right hand and orthopedic clearance, or no contest until 08/22/14
- Patrick Cummins: Suspended until 04/09/14; no contact until 03/25/14
- Demian Maia: Suspended until 04/09/14; no contact until 03/25/14
- T.J. Waldburger: Suspended until 04/09/14; no contact until 03/25/14
- Rafaello Oliveira: Suspended until 04/09/14; no contact until 03/25/14 due to contusion under right eye
- Sara McMann: Suspended until 03/25/14; no contact until 03/16/14
- Pedro Munhoz: Suspended until 03/25/14; no contact until 03/16/14
- Aljamain Sterling: Requires follow-up MRI of head with gradient echo or susceptibility weighted imaging within one week post-fight, or before 03/01/14
